It's just post-nasal drip from a minor cold plus allergies. I'm just barking nonstop, though, and my usual tricks aren't helping. It's making my voice all raspy and my throat sore from it, and I'm sick of it! (And no, I'm not concerned it's anything worse - I'm very familiar with the wide range of respiratory crap my body likes to get, and this is just annoying stuff, nothing serious.)

Cayenne pepper and honey or brown sugar in a cup of warm water. Very soothing to the throat and helps with sinuses and coughing. I find that if it's a bit strong after you drink it, a sip of WARM water is really helpful afterwards.

My DH drives me crazy with his post nasal drip cough. At a recent trip to the doctor, she told him to try OTC Flonase. He finally picked up a generic version at Kroger of all places. One use made a major improvement and his cough was almost gone. He’s hopeful he may have found a solution to an ongoing problem. I hope so too!

To help in the future, keep your sinuses cleared out with a nightly Neti rinse so there is nothing to drip. When my cough is horrible the thing that works best for me is cough syrup or medicine with Guifseson (I'm sure I spelled that wrong).
eta: Just remembered that I sip a drink constantly so the feeling of irritation is kept at bay.

Another vote for flonase and the neti pot.

Sorry, it might've helped if I said what I was already doing. I am using Flonase (and have been, so it's in the system) and have added decongestants (the good ones) and guaifenicin (Mucinex). Drinking a lot in general, including Davids Tea "Cold 911" with eucalyptus. Neti pots don't help me for some reason, but I do use a saline spray that seems to help a little bit. I may have to try what chlerbie suggests, even if the thought makes my stomach turn, lol! I just hate it, I have meetings to go to, and I am not contagious but I sound like I have something awful! (And of course, it's annoying to me in general.)

Neti pot, flonase, and pineapple juice.
I read on Two Peas many many years ago, that pineapple helps with a cough(something in the pineapple). Plus, I don't eat a lot of fruit, so I figure I get vitamin c from it as well. I buy those mini cans and usually drink one every other day. Currently Colds, coughing, and crud are all around everywhere I turn, so I have been drinking a can or two a day in my efforts to keep the sickness away.

Bourbon, honey and lemon juice. About a tablespoon of each mixed and microwave it about 20-30 seconds and just sip it. Works wonders soothing the throat.

Were you barking before taking Mucinex? I find it makes a cough worse if I don't have heavy congestion, just an annoying PND. Other ideas that seem to help us. - humidifier
- eat/drink ginger (you can grate fresh ginger and add it to a hot lemon & honey drink)
- gargle with salt water
Good luck.

I have the same issue, and am constantly telling people "I'm not contagious!"

I prescribe a lot of flonase and zyrtec but any type of Claritin or Allegra would work. You need something to dry everything up in there. I'd lay off the Mucinex for right now.
We are also big fans of Delsym cough medicine.

Bed bath and beyond has mango ginger chews that might help keep the tickle at bay.

Ah, I'd forgotten about that one! I've never tried it before, but have heard this! Bourbon, honey and lemon juice. About a tablespoon of each mixed and microwave it about 20-30 seconds and just sip it. Works wonders soothing the throat. And if it doesn't work, repeat until you don't care anymore! Were you barking before taking Mucinex? Yes. I don't take it at night because that definitely aggravates it, but I can feel the pressure is building up there so I'm using the Mucinex in the daytime to try to help it all drain. I've had to have sinus surgery before, so I have to keep it moving, lol. This isn't a reflux-related cough, this is just a temporary thing that started about a week ago after a small cold - and then all my regular allergens are nuts right now on top of that, so blargh.
