Lucy always wears her collar with her tags ... it is required by law here ... she has a crate but only spends time in it when she is wet from swimming in the river  |

McFly wears his 24/7 and his electric fence collar as well. He is not crated. He hated the crate.

My dogs don't wear collars. When Amelia goes walking she wears a harness with her tags on it. Finn won't walk so he's naked all the time. All of our animals are microchipped so I don't worry about them going missing.

My dog wears his collar 24/7 UNLESS he is in his crate. I once saw a warning that they can choke themselves in the crate if they get thier collar caught.
However, he doesn’t wear his tags 24/7 too much noise. They are on his crate unless we go to the park. I also have a picture of the tags on my phone Incase they get lost at the park.

Mine only wear them on walks or trips to the vet.
All of mine are micro chipped, plus we have a fully fenced in back yard with gates that are always locked.
If someone comes to the front door we have a portable gate we slide into place to block them from the front door so they can’t get out.
It’s a doggy Fort Knox around here.

Sadie is 11. She does not wear a collar and does not use a crate. If she goes out front, she's not going anywhere.

What did ?? the article say It said: "It's dangerous for any dog who sleeps in a crate, as the collar or id tag could accidentally hook onto a metal slat and cause strangulation. A collar isn't designed to be a 24/7 accessory... Another good reason to remove it at night is that nonstop wearing could cause fur to break off, leading to irritation or an infection." |

Wrigley wears her collar all the time, but it does not have tags on it as she eats them. We got her a collar with her name and our number embroidered on it.
She is created at night and when we aren't at home

Both shih tzus are microchiped. Dh or I put their harnesses on when they go out for their first walk in the morning and it stays on until after their last walk at night which is usually 8pm. Then it stays off.
They go in crates when we leave to go somewhere and for bed.
I prefer to have them wear their harnesses during the day as it makes going for a walk easier as I just have to connect their leash, and if there was an emergency, I could quickly get their leash on to leave.
At night we could simply pick up the crates and go

My answers don't fit very well to the poll
Millie is our 8.5 year old shihtzu mix and she's never really worn a collar unless we take her on a walk. The collar with her tags is attached to her leash. She has slipped out before on rare occasion, but never ran away, and our backyard is fenced, so we don't bother with it. She does have a crate she will go in occasionally.
Fred is our 8 month old corgi boy. Microchipped. He wears his collar during the day. We don't crate him when away, we put him in the bathroom. However we do have him wear a collar just so we can hear where he is and on the off chance he would get out. We think he would probably run.

Normally, he wears his collar at all times, but I'm home sick and he's running around in the nude. I took it off this morning in order to give him better neck massages, which he loves.

No, our dog is so flipping little nothing stays on him. He is microchipped so the information is out there. We are usually with him outside and he is leased... otherwise he is inside most of the time.

Ryder wears his collar 24/7. It’s a White Pine brand that does not mess up his coat. He does not have his tags on his collar, ever, as tags are not allowed in the agility or obedience ring. He is crate trained but is no longer crated at home. His crate is always open at home and he comes and goes in it. He travels in his crate and we use it at events. I would never take his collar off then. Ok, except in the agility ring  Nita, our GSD, always wears her collar too. She is the same as Ryder. Koda does not wear a collar any more. He does not have a crate and he no longer travels. Now that he is 14, he can’t even get up the RV steps  All of our dogs are micro chipped and our info is current. |

Yes. Mine wear theirs 24/7.
Not worried about contact info as much as license and rabies info around here. If your dog is out running around without those tags, that is when they and you can get in trouble.
I don’t plan for them to ever get out of the house or the yard without me, but life - and dogs - is unpredictable.

My girl rarely wears her collar, it mats her hair really quickly. If I’m going to walk her I use a gentle lead instead of her collar and if we are going on a car ride, I use her slip lead. At home she goes naked.

Tucker never wore a collar. We had a sign in our car with his pic and all contact info for my FIL and his vet if, God forbid, we had a car accident and he escaped😬😬.
He was also microchipped and had a contact tag on his harness for walks.

My vent for owners who don't have ID tags for their dogs: My yard seems to attract dogs. Over the years, I've helped return many dogs who wandered away from their owner. It's a lot easier to reunite a dog with their owner when they have an ID tag with a phone number and/or address. When they don't have an ID tag, I call my police department to ask if anyone has reported the dog to be missing. My PD will take my name and phone number to assist in finding the owner. This summer, two German Shepherds wandered into my yard wearing collars and no ID tags. My daughters and I put the two dogs on tie-outs in my backyard. I called my PD and about 1.5 hours later, I received a call from the PD that the owner had contacted them. The owner came to my house and thanked me. The dogs might have been chipped but I was apprehensive to take two German Shepherds in my car to have their chips read. So, this reunion was easy. However, my vent is that I don't know how the dog is going to react if I try to put them in my car and take them to have their chip read. Plus, it can be time consuming trying to find the owner. Believe me, I want to help the dog. So, I simply request that dogs have an ID tag on them.

I'm an "other"....ours wears hers during the day, even at home not just on walks and rides. We take it off of her after we take her out before bed. She doesn't sleep in a crate ever. She sleeps near us at night, although when my husband is out of town like he is at the moment she sleeps on his side.  We've always taken her collar off at night...I feel like it's like sleeping in a belt or something....take everything off to be more comfortable. |

So Piper has her collar on if she’s out but there currently aren’t any tags on it. I’m going to get her a collar either with the tag riveted to it or embroidered on it, but I have to find someplace that has them big enough for her. And I’d like to wait until she’s mostly grown. She’s only 9 months old but is already over 125 pounds. She’s a Mastiff x St Bernard/New Foundland. I have a hard time finding collars and harnesses big enough. We live on 200 acres so she’s not likely to leave the property although I would prefer that she’s tagged in some way. |

My Harper is micro chipped also. None of her tags are on her collar. If she is outside, I am with her and/or she is on a leash. I am going to start and take her collar off when she is in her crate.(which is only when I am not home--don't trust her to have full reign of the house.)
