My daughter is getting married 2 weeks from today. She went to her usual stylist and showed her a picture of herself the last time she had her cut (by this same person) and asked for it to be the same length. The length was right below her shoulders (so it touched her shoulders and went a little bit below). She left the salon with her hair cut about 1" below her ears. She is devastated and her hair style looks absolutely nothing like her normal style. She does not want her hair to look like this on her wedding day. She is NOT a drama queen at all but my poor daughter has been crying every time she looks in the mirror. I know nothing about extensions but we have to do something and something quick. It needs to look natural but I don't really want there to be damage to her hair in the long run either. The style for her wedding was to have the sides pulled back, side swept bangs in the front and the back in loose curls with a flower crown. Advice? I am so upset for her. She does NOT want to go back to the stylist that cut her hair. The stylist is a friend of mine (they were invited to the wedding! but can not come because someone else is also getting married that day). My daughter is pretty upset with her right now and doesn't want to be hateful to her and really just doesn't want to see her or talk to her right now. I've offered to call the stylist and talk with her but my daughter just doesn't want to see her right now. Ugh, this is the part where friends doing work for you gets complicated. :/ ___________________________________ Update: The pics that @ PrettyInPeank posted below are the EXACT difference in her hair so I'm not going to upload pics. We found a salon (45 min. away) that has a stylist with a great deal of extension experience. I called and talked to her and explained the situation and she met with us this afternoon for a consultation. She completely gave my daughter (and me too!) confidence that she is going to fix her hair it is going to look just likes she wants. My daughter hasn't cried since the appointment so I think that's a good sign! We decided to go with the tape in extensions (she said they can last up to around 2 months). We discussed the clip in option but she wants her hair styled and looking normal at the rehearsal dinner on Friday night and then of course at the wedding on Saturday. If we did the clips, we would have to drive to the stylist on Friday to have them put in and then again on Saturday morning (wedding day!) because they would probably move around while she slept on Friday. The stylist said she is placing them very strategically so the tape will not show with the way she wants her hair styled. She color matched her hair and wants us to come look at them as soon as they come in because if the color match is not PERFECT she wants to color the extensions. (My daughter's hair is slightly lighter on the ends than in the root area because of summer sunlight lightening it a bit; her outgrowth at the root is just a smidgen darker). We already have an appointment scheduled to have the extensions put in the Thursday before her wedding. If this stylist makes her hair right I'm going to be indebted to her forever! LOL It is costing us a pretty penny that we weren't expecting to spend at this stage in the game, but like I told my husband, we've spent so much money on everything else, what's a few hundred more dollars? The alternative is our daughter will feel uncomfortable about her appearance on her wedding day and then hate the pictures (that we're paying sooo much money for). It's just not worth the heartache. I want our daughter to feel beautiful on her wedding day and after I explained all that to him he agreed. She's a daddy's girl and once he realized how short her haircut is compared to her normal hair he understood. (It's a good thing he got on board because he really wasn't going to convince me that we weren't doing this! LOL) Thank you all for the advice. I wish it wouldn't have happened at all, but I appreciate your help and hopefully this will all turn out perfectly in the end. Now how to handle talking to my friend is another issue... but I'll deal with that one later.

YOu and she both should talk to all your friends and ask about their stylists. Remember cost is not a factor right now.... Hopefully she can find someone to do what she want for her big day. There is time to do some practice runs.......... This can be done!

She will not like them pulled back on the sides, extensions would show. Takes a few days to get the hang of them, so find someone asap so you can order (always got mine thru amazon) soon. Good luck.

Yes the tape ones are actually really easy to do, you could do them yourself. I've put them in for DD before. She's a stylist so she talked me through it but it was very simple. She had to go to one place in particular for the best tape but it's a pro place not open to the public. I'm guessing you can get everything you need through Amazon if you don't have anyone to get pro stuff for you. You'll need to trim them up or have it done. Easiest thing would be to buy the supplies and take it to a pro to be put in and trimmed, if you don't think you could do it yourself. Takes a couple hours to do it right.

I don’t really know anything about extensions, but could a wig be an option? I’ve seen some really cute wigs online and have even printed out styles from some wig websites for my stylist to copy. Good luck, I hope your DD can figure something out.

Go to a professional that does extensions. DO NOT just buy the cheapies you can buy at SALLY’s or any other store like that. You need a professional to put them in. You know how the Kardashian’s hair looks so great? They have professionally done extensions. At this point cost should be low on your list. That said, I am sad your daughter is sad.

Dreamcatchers are the absolute best extensions! They offer tape in or individual piece types. You can go to their website and use their salon locator for your area.
The individual type (I-tip) when installed correctly can be styled any way imaginable. You can wear them up and attachments don’t show. Human hair that can be heat styled. Hair can be reused multiple times. A lot of extensions cannot be reused.

Is her natural hair too short to pull back? If not, maybe you can find a different stylist today who could try some French twists or something. The flower crown might even be more stunning without a bunch of curls in the back. Another idea might be to switch to a veil or add a veil to the flowers? I’m sorry she is sad.

I just was talking to a mom with beautiful hair, and she confessed she had extensions. She said Belamie brand. I started considering them, and searched my local Facebook mom group for "extension," and Belamie popped up a lot.
I guess you take a picture of your hair in daylight, and they can match you. They have clip-in and permanent, but permanent need a pro.

Would you say her normal length is this: And it is now this?: I am a visual person, and to think of ideas, do better knowing what she's working with. Do you have a picture of the hairstyle she had planned?

There are tape in and bead extensions. I would think beads would be better assuming she wants a least a partial up do. The beads wouldn't show as much as the tape in especially considering she doesn't have much hair left to work with. Ask around in person on FB personally and if you have any community groups (although take those reviews with a bit of a grain of salt. But you might learn where to avoid). Good luck, hair is so important to a bride.

I hope you can find a good solution!
I wore my hair down on my wedding day, and I had a beaded back. My hair was destroyed after a long day of pulling my hair out of the beads. So my advice is to make sure the back won’t destroy anything you put in.

Oh, I feel so sorry for your daughter. No one should have to endure a bad haircut right before her wedding.
I haven't had extensions, but I watched with fascination as someone was getting them last time I was in the salon. It looked super easy, and you could not tell they were extensions. I would think any higher end salon could do them and make them look natural, as they're pretty common to add both length and volume.
I hope she finds a look that she'll be happy with!

Go buy a fall. It is easier to deal with.
Extensions are easy but very time consuming. I would use the glue instead of the tape. I Bought the pieces that were like a strip of hair and cut those apart.

Whatever she does - extensions or wig - I suggest that she finds a stylist she wants to work with and she make an appointment ASAP.
She should try it out with her stylist as far in advance as possible.
Wigs can be styled and might be a good way to go.

This is the most real of hair emergencies that I’ve ever heard of. Your poor dd! I’d probably call the best salon in town and throw yourself at their mercy. I’m so sorry.

That really stinks. Time to get referrals to the best stylist in town and call that person, explaining your immediate need and get some help. If it's the length in the 2nd photo there are some really pretty things they can do. What part of "do the same thing you just did" did her stylist not understand? Your poor dd.

My stylist BFF says as long as she doesn't have thin hair tape in extensions should be fine. She recommends going to a professional rather than doing it at home, since neither of you have experience doing it.

I bought the Jessica Simpson ones in my hair salon (they also sold them at Ulta). They're great for a quick change of look! They come in human hair and synthetic. Check it out on Amazon or in an Ulta salon. I think it's better that the taped ones (more temporary/safer) and they look great. Good luck!
