Once upon a time I lost over 80 lbs. My marriage was at the end of the line and I was spiraling toward divorce. I had also just been diagnosed with PCOS and my thyroid was off. So I exercised and ate half and the stress just basically made the wright melt off me. Fast forward to today. And I'm happily remarried and my kids stress me right out. My job has been exhausting lately. A medication change...boom...I am 55 pounds heavier. I am trying to figure out how to inspire myself, motivate me to lose again. I have thought about printing pics of skinny me. I have thought about possible mantras to add to my meditations. Today I was feeling like I am so over skinny ankle pants. And then I saw these jeans and I absolutely love them. Not on big me, but thin me would rock them. Of course the biggest size I could find was a 12. I am wondering if a piece of clothing inspires you or what works to keep you motivated. And the fabulous jeans I want

I'm wanting to lose weight for ds's graduation so that I like myself in hi is pictures.
Perhaps a trip or a photoshoot?
Fwiw, I gained 30 lbs in 3 months a couple of years ago due to thyroid meds and I still carry that, plus some, with me.

I think therapy is an excellent weight loss tool. You mentioned some stressful things in your life and that goes hand in hand w/overeating. The problem is likely something other than food. In fact, food is often the symptom. Don't struggle or suffer. Work on the inside and the outside might just follow suit.

I think therapy is an excellent weight loss tool. You mentioned some stressful things in your life and that goes hand in hand w/overeating. The problem is likely something other than food. In fact, food is often the symptom. Don't struggle or suffer. Work on the inside and the outside might just follow suit. This is a good suggestion. And I practically have a therapist on speed dial...lol...I go whenever I feel like something needs tweaking. Maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea to call her.

I manage by not keeping tempting foods(for me) in the house. I do keep pretzels and sea salt popcorn. No Nutella, no cookies, and no candy. I buy Halloween candy like Skittles, which I don’t care for. Hershey bars are a no-no for me. And if therapy can help, why not?

I’ve always struggled with my weight...I’ve even thought about WLS (still on the fence with that) I have PCOS as well so I know how hard it is to lose the weight and keep it off. Clothes are one of my biggest motivations and when people hear me say that they tell me I’m vain (I wanna tell them to STFU and enjoy their size 2 jeans because they're not me but I keep quiet) ..I have to laugh because if someone really knew me they would know that’s 100% not me at all...of course I want to lose weight to better my health but the clothes is a huge deal to me. I also want to do a Boudoir photo shoot for DH

I am trying to lose weight myself. I try to watch what I eat but sometimes the stress I go through make me eat everything in sight. I have also noticed that since my son passed away last Dec. I over eat so much, sometimes even when I'm not hungry. My short term goal is to lose 10 lbs by the end of the yr. and my inspiration is to fit in a dress that was given to me that I would love to wear.

Before I had weight loss surgery, I put a picture of skinny me on the fridge. It did help, but while I was unsuccessful with loosing much weight on my own, it did inspire me to have WLS and it was the best decision I've ever made.
Now, I keep my old driver's license in my purse for when I need a kick in the rear. It helps and I've kept all the weight off. My surgery was 2-1-2010.

I went through a break-up at the end of 2014. I've worked out since my 20's, but I started getting slack- going only 2-3 times a week with no plan when I went. Also, I started eating whatever I wanted. I'm only 5'2" and then I was around 125ish or so. I never weighed and really didn't think I looked that bad, BUT my nephew took a panoramic pic of us at Christmas 2015 and I about got sick. I don't even know what weighed but I know I had gained at least 10-15 lbs. Being that short, I looked terrible to me.
I went the next day and switched gyms to give me a change and gave up just about all carbs- no "whites". I started working out everyday with weights and made out my workouts. It didn't take long and I noticed a change and it became very addictive. After a few months, I felt like I wasn't getting as fit as I wanted so I went to a personal trainer for about a year. He really helped with showing me a variety of workouts and how to mix things up.
I just decided that I didn't want to look "dumpy"- lol and I stuck to it. Now, do I splurge once in awhile now? Oh, yes but I still stick to my workouts and go back to my healthy eating.
You just have to find what works for you and go for it!

NoWomanNoCry I understand exactly what you mean. I am not a really vain person myself but I feel strongly about dressing in a way that flatters me. And the bell bottoms wouldn't look right on little 5'3" me with all this weight. Again, I'm back in plus sizes and disappointed in many of my clothing options. I do love fun clothes. I just want them to look decent on me.

alexa11 I was really good about working out too. Then when I went back to school for my masters in 2013, I just didn't have the time. I couldn't juggle it between working full time and managing my kids. I know I need to get back to it. I am quite short at 5"3" but 140 pounds puts me looking very skinny. I would be happy with 160. Maybe 150. Right now I'm up in a size 18 at around 215. Just too much. My highest weight was 240.

I’ve lost 85 pounds over the 16 months. I still have about 25 pounds to go to get my weight within the normal range. I’ve been at a total standstill for the last 2 months. I know some of my old habits are sneaking back in. I haven’t gained any weight, but I really want to lose this last bit. I’m trying journaling and goal setting. I’m going to set 3 very specific goals each day and then journal at the end of the night. I also set a few longer term goals and some fun rewards for making them.
I also like to look at side by side photos of myself. It’s difficult for me to see the weight loss in the mirror, but for some reason I can see it better in photos.

Instead of dieting, which usually has rebounds, are there changes you can make that you can live with?
Since I’ve changed my eating 2 1/2 years ago, I have literally watched many friends and acquaintances lose and gain back various amounts of weight. They’re so happy and proud with the weight loss. And then...just defeat.
There are times my weight loss plateaus, or is so slow it might as well be a plateau. But I’ve stayed the course, because I’ve found what works for me, and I’m happy and satisfied with it. And sure enough, the clothes get loose, and the scale moves.
It could mean adjusting habits, finding non fattening ways to deal with stress, coming up with recipes that are satisfying but won’t add weight. Adding exercise in ways you won’t be tempted to skip.
Treating yourself in non food ways, or yummy food that is healthy. Gorgeous fruit salads, anyone?

What motivates me? Why YOU jeremysgirl and, iirc, birukitty and zella and a few other peas who answered your thread about veganism/vegetarianism a few months back. I had been dithering about it for many months partly because the animal side and the environmental side but also because in my research I had seen so many success stories of people who had improved their health and lost weight that stopping eating meat and dairy seemed a no brainer to me. I couldn’t make the leap, though, as I was putting the obstacle of living with an carnivore in my way. Then I opened your thread and got involved and just stopped eating meat and dairy. In those few weeks my arthritis has improved to the extent I can close my hands, my knees no longer ache when I crouch down to pick something up (and I can get up and down under my own steam without hanging onto anything) my swollen ankles have gone down so I can now flex my feet and walk normally BUT I have also lost 13lb without being hungry, just by swopping a carnivore lifestyle for a plant based one and keeping an eye on what I’m eating as I know you can be vegan and still eat unhealthily. My DS2, who has health issues, has joined me and we share recipes and try out food on each other and his support is such a help. His wife doesn’t want to change and my husband (his dad) doesn’t want to change so we support each other. His health issues are improving too. So, thanks to you, jeremysgirl and other peas, you inspired and motivated me to turn my health around and I look forward to losing more weight and becoming as healthy as I can. <3 ETA, I’ve just re-read your op and my height and weight are pretty much the same as your own although I think I am much older than you. I was skinny till I hit my 30s but not too fat until my 50s and I have struggled with weight since then. I did the 5:2 fasting diet for about 2 years and loved it, got down to a suitable weight and then had the trauma of putting our dog through back surgery and watching him go downhill until I had to give the vet permission to let him go, I turned to comfort eating, and shortly after that my DIL had her second baby and I was looking after both children and could not focus on my own health. So I ballooned. That’s just a bit of background so you know where I’m coming from.

I know better now what I can’t resist and I don’t buy it (usually). I also have PCOS and although I no longer do strict Atkins/Keto I still really try to reduce the refined “whites” I eat, and eat more lean protein. It really helps me just feel better overall. If I do overdo it in sugar or refined carbs anymore I just feel sick everywhere.

Thank you for mentioning journalling. I used to do that years ago when I lost a bunch of weight.
In mine, I'd track what I ate each day. I put inspirational quotes, things that side tracked me and how I might better deal with them in the future, I'd note if someone had mentioned my weight loss, or complimented me. Healthy recipes, activity. I must start again.

My oldest DD is getting married Sept 2019 and those pictures will be around FOREVER! I do not want to be/ WILL NOT be the fat mother of the bride in them! I saw a picture of myself taken yesterday and that has really, really given me the push I needed to truly stick with this. I hated myself in that picture and I do not want to have the same feelings when I see DDs wedding pictures next year. AND I'll be 50 in February. I have a lot of determination right now!

What journal did you buy? Is it a specific brand? I follow trim healthy mama and love the plan, but have been having a hard time being consistent. They don’t require or even advocate Counting calories or keeping track of food (just follow the basic principles of the plan) but I think I need to get back to some kind of food tracking. Last night I uploaded pics from a wedding I went to last month. Yikes. I should print one out and keep it on my dashboard so that when I’m tempted to grab some junk food while out and about, I think twice.

Getting some blood work levels under control really worked for me. It was another solid piece of evidence (besides the scale) that really showed my results, and it was all about my health. Meds are so wonderful, I could just really do without some of the side effects. Good luck!

We're gearing up for a big trip to Universal next summer. I'm bound and determined to be able to walk without my thighs chafing. I've been so unhappy with my weight the past year or so, I was working out regularly then had several falls that left me in terrible pain from my knees. I started gearing slowly back into it and school started throwing off my routine again. With the fall play done for DD I've got my afternoon workout time back and I'm going to take advantage of it. I do NOT want to be worried about fitting in the roller coaster seats at the park, even though I won't ride many. My daily motivation is just looking in the mirror when I get up and making sure that my gym bag is go ready next to my backpack. No excuses. I'm also monitoring my evening snacking thanks to the peas.

I'm so very sorry I haven't kept up with the weekly Vegan/WFPB threads like I was going to-my chronic migraines have been really bad and kept me from doing so. But it looks like things are really looking up for me on that front-I'm trying out a new preventive that is working really well. I'm going to try to bring back that thread next week on Monday and then post it every Monday after that. I am so happy to read about your health improvements and your weight loss. It will get better and better as you continue with this diet. I just got my annual blood work back from my Integrative Medicine doctor and there was a new test on it this time. It's called a HS CRP. It measures your cardiovascular risk. 1.0-3.0 is average. I'm 58. Mine came out at 0.2 and it was marked out of range! The whole foods, plant based diet is known for being excellent for your cardiovascular health. And guess what the number one killer is in the United States? Heart Disease. Come February of 2019 it'll be 5 years that I've followed this diet. Before I was on it I weighed 186 lbs, my cholesterol was 220, and I was tired all of the time. Now I weigh 128, (I gained 3 pounds) my cholesterol is 165 (without medication I lowered it through this diet) and I feel half my age. I had asthma but it disappeared through this diet. The weight came of easily because I could eat as much as I want, when I want until I am full. What inspired me? I was sick of being fat. I wanted a solution that would not only work but would last. See that's the key point. Diets work, but with diets you lose the weight but it always comes back. This is the only process I've found where you lose the weight and it stays off. Plus, it's amazing for your health! And it's such fun to feel thin and wear smaller clothes. I had clothes in my closet from sizes 6-18W, small to extra large. Because my weight had literally been like a yo-yo for years. After I started on the Whole foods, plant based diet it was such fun to try on a smaller size as I lost a little weight, and then go back to my closet after a few weeks and try on the next smaller size. I realize most people probably don't have this but what about buying some clothes at a Goodwill in a few smaller sizes (to keep it cheap and affordable) and that would be a great motivator? jeremysgirl we've talked before and I know you can do this! I think those jeans are awesome. Maybe make yourself an inspiration board with a photo of those jeans, a photo of some other great clothes and some other inspirational things that you like.
