I was so upset when we traded in my mini van for DH truck, I made DS go with DH to the dealership. I couldn't leave her there after everything we had been through together, good and bad, for almost 13 years. The sinful number of trips to Disneyland, hauling kids on field trips, decking her out for Trunk or Treat, the projectile puke when they were little to the smell of 6 tween basketball players after an all day tournament, the near accidents, the time she caught on fire....They gave us $5000 for the trade in, and I knew she was going to the junk yard. I got DH hand me down Jeep Cherokee, and I took it to our mechanic a couple of days later, for a weird noise DH swears he couldn't hear. When I told him my van was gone, and that I felt irrationally bad about abandoning her, he laughed, hugged me and said it's totally normal. Then he said remember when you junk a car, older car parts are hard to find, so it's like donating rare organs to cars. Your van might have the exact part someone desperate not to have to buy a new car right now needs. It made me feel better. {Hugs} I love this idea of being an “organ donor.” And what a wonderful thing thing to donate your car to NPR. It’s had a good life and now goes off to a good cause. Hugs.

Code violations generally give a 15-30 day to correct the problem and an opportunity to appeal. I would have gone the appeal route to buy time to finish the repairs or move the car out of sight.

No place to move it to. No time to start work on it, It was better just to let is go. We are the city over, they have different rules. Somebody told me today, the rules are whatever the code guy feels they are that day. But at least I can keep my rooster! One of our friends was fined over old windows leaning up against their house. They just finished putting new windows in, cleaned up the work and leaned the old windows against their house. Went on a 2 week vacation on found the fine bill in their mail.

So how long has it been sitting? You never said. And how long have you been waiting on parts?

So how long has it been sitting? You never said. And how long have you been waiting on parts? It has been a while. My husband had back surgery during this, so he was no help and finding parts? Omg there are four parts that we aren’t sure what they are called. I asked another pea if her husband could identify them but I got busy with painting and chickens and yard stuff at my son’s house I didn’t get back to her. Tracking down good parts on a 30 year car is not N easy thing to do if you are a newbie at such things. I am feeling better now, I had my weepy moment and now it’s time to work on something else. Like fencing!

I am glad you are starting to feel better now - I am a car person so I get it. As a matter of fact, I have not one but TWO non-running cars on my property right now, but they are in my fenced backyard. I am sure it's still against code, but so far no one has complained. One of the cars I had literally only owned for ONE week before my BIL wrecked it while DH and I were out of town, 13 years ago!! It got cannibalized over the years because it was non-repairable, so we ended up making money in the deal but I am not going to lie, it still makes me mad to see what's left of it. ( It was a VW Corrado and they only made those for 4 years. ) The other car is a project car that has probably been sitting for 10 years with NOTHING being done to it. I hope that you get an opportunity to find another fun car someday.

I'm sorry. I grew up in a place where neighbors did not comment on what was on your property. People minded their own business. I can't say I would not be cooking up some petty revenge if I was you...

I can't say I would not be cooking up some petty revenge if I was you... This is the whole reason my DH wanted to move to the country. He has 2 mudding trucks that he's always tinkering with. To say the least, to me, they are somewhat of an eye sore but it's something DH and DS love to do together. We live on unrestricted property but our nosey neighbors still felt the need to tell us how we needed to do things. That did not go over too well with DH. I did ask him to at least put them in the back pasture barn so I didn't keep getting the stink eye from said neighbor. They ended up putting up a privacy fence so they didn't have to "see all of our junk". I bet they were also glad when they saw our for sale sign go up on our house. LOL! I'm sorry you were so upset. I, too, get attached to vehicles. My son's truck is one of those. I know we need to get rid of it but it's taken me some time to get used to the idea. Silly I know......

I would definitely NOT being plowing their driveway ever again. Jerks.
It's not like you live in the city. I validate your anger about it.
I understand why you are attached to that car. I also admire how you have built a great life for yourself!

I hear you, OP. Someone called on me for a vehicle that was only going to be temporarily in my driveway. At the end of my driveway, on the bottom of a hill. Only two neighbors could even see it, and both have tall fences. I think one of them called the Borough as the vehicle was driven down the driveway, because I got notice from the Borough the very next day. Now c'mon, that was ruthless. I was letting a friend use my driveway and garage to fix the vehicle. It was registered, but had an expired inspection sticker. It only needed brakes and new suspension, which was going to be dealt with the next weekend. Had either neighbor said, "hey, whattup?" as they usually about every.little.thing., I could have told them all that. Now, I just dislike both of them, but mostly the one that averted his eyes and pretended not to see me the next day. I thought we were the look out for each other sort of neighbors.

Although if I build the fence and plant the trees, that might be revenge because there is not be a nice view any more.

Well I know that person. We like her husband , but she is the gladis ( is that spelling right) of her neighborhood. She call code 3 days after her neighbor’s daughter towed her car to her parent’s place for dad to work on. Dad had the parts and was waiting for the weekend. Nope he had to move it. This is in the same neighborhood where the people got fined for old glass windows up against they house.

Oh, gosh I'd be so bummed. It hurt a lot to get rid of my "first" vehicle, I drove it to death. It was my freedom.
Your neighbor will have lots of time to mull over her behavior while shoveling her driveway this year. She sounds like a real peach. If no one could see the car until in the driveway, I don't understand her issue. Some people are just busybodies.
