that gives this board our first really contentious thread and probably the best reason why this board is going to stick around. We're home people!

My thoughts exactly. The honeymoon is over. It's fun to dig in there and disagree. If we all agreed on everything, the world (and our new home) would be a boring place.

My first thought when I saw the post: the first real Pea argument. We've christened the new board!

True that. I was wondering how long we were all going to hold hands and sing Kumbaya together. Glad stuff is getting back to "normal" around here.

When I read yesterday that the Hobby Lobby decision would come in today, I knew the honeymoon would be over. LOL There is another decision coming in today too but I already forgot what it was. It is also supposed to be a controversial decision.

I don't mind civil debates and disagreements. But name calling and bullying are wrong! Hope it stays civil!

I would say someone is handslapping everyone for not trusting the 2Peas owners over all this mess. Rant thread (and the OP called it a rant, not me) edit: I am having trouble with the Quote feature around here.

When I saw the ruling I knew there'd be a full on post here ... I wasn't disappointed. Though I am going to stay out of the fray. It's nice to see everyone back!

Both cases were ruled very narrowly actually. The union one was about gov't home health workers and whether they were required to pay union dues for coverage on issues they didn't agree with. The lady who sued was a mom getting paid to do home health for her own child. Again, the ruling was very narrow and doesn't mean that the same applies in the private sector or even in other parts of the gov't sector.

Oh yes!! Thanks for the reminder. It was requiring home health workers to pay union dues. Here's a blurb I found about it: Union leaders had feared that the justices might strike down those state laws as unconstitutional. The justices did not go that far. They issued a more narrow ruling that the home health care workers at issue in the case are not “full-fledged public employees” because they are hired and fired by individual patients and work in private homes, though they are paid in part by the state, via Medicaid. Because they’re not truly state employees, the justices decided these workers did not have to pay union dues. Even the fairly narrow ruling is a blow to the Service Employees International Union, the American Federation of Teachers and other unions that have organized hundreds of thousands of home health workers in states including Illinois, California and Connecticut. Those workers can now decide whether they want to support the union financially. Read more: www.politico.com/story/2014/06/supreme-court-harris-v-quinn-ruling-108428.html#ixzz36A0NVmcx
