I'm making signs for a high school playoff game.
Is using the word "lit" ok?
Example: smith high school is lit
Now I'm second guessing the use of the word lit.
Would you?

No. I have only heard "LIT" as meaning drunk.

My motto is, if you have to ask, pass. I think it's fine, but I wouldn't want the anxiety lol.

Poppin would be a good alternative. I think. I'm getting older. 😂

My kids would get it. My son uses "lit" all the time to talk about the fun he's having. He's 22.

To me it means high or drunk. I wouldn't use it.

No. I have only heard "LIT" as meaning drunk. Me too, but I was informed by my teenage son a few months ago that LIT does not mean drunk anymore. It means having a great time. He went sledding and said "it was lit". I was like, "WERE YOU DRINKING?" and he looked at me like I had 3 heads and asked why I would think that from what he said....

Why not something like "smith high school is on fire"?

Why not something like "smith high school is on fire"? That was our other choice, but we were trying to be cool. 😂😂😂😂

Why not something like "smith high school is on fire"? What? The school is on fire? Better set off the fire alarm and get everybody out of here! Everything can be taken out of context. 😜

Dd18 says it means “Like yo that’s really cool” That's how it is used around here, as well.

The kids will all know what it really means. The old people will be offended and not care what it actually means according to my son who wanted his hoco sign to say lit and told me I was ancient when I asked what it meant

I’ve seen it expressed as the new meaning (so, not drunk) with the fire emoji. Could you do that instead of the word?
Wait. Maybe the fire emoji was also used when it meant drunk.
Ignore me.
I think.

I asked DDs. One is a teacher and one is a high school cheerleading coach. They said "lit" coming from a student perspective, not official school communication, would be acceptable in our district.

Am I also showing how painfully unhip I am by not knowing why the third choice in the poll is “Oprah?”

Am I also showing how painfully unhip I am by not knowing why the third choice in the poll is “Oprah?” Old Two Peas joke. Someone back in the day included Oprah as a poll choice and it stuck and has appeared in polls over the years. There may be a reason why Oprah was chosen, but I think those particular brain cells of mine may be lost to time. Other Peas may have more to add.

My University is using it in their social media so I think it's probably fine.

Yes, it is fine. It currently means amongst the young kids that something is awesome, cool, "on fire".

I like 'poppin'
Sorry, I think too many people view the word lit to mean wasted, high, drunk, I wouldn't risk it.
