I’m not a huge business book fan but “First, Break All the Rules” and “Start With Why” are pretty good. And the reading list for the Personal MBA is also good. personalmba.com/best-business-books/Congrats on your new role!

I will check those out. I've been in this position for 2 years but there are always struggles and I just want to be the best leader I can be. I don't want to bug my manager all the time and just take care of things myself. lol

The 5 Languages of Appreciation in the Workplace by Gary Chapman and Paul White. People often quit bosses, not jobs. I left my last job (back in 2000) because I loved my job but did not feel appreciated. Reading this book I realize that my supervisor, who I have stayed friends with, did not know how to show me she appreciated me in a way that meant something to me. If you have read The 5 Love Languages this is the same concepts but for the workplace. The Leadership Challenge by Jim Kouzes and Barry Posner I also really enjoy Ted Talks on different leadership styles. Some of them make me think, "Nope, not how I want to lead." and some are very much "This is how I want to be seen as a leader" Simon Sinek - How great leaders inspire actionDrew Dudley - Everyday Leadership I love the one from Drew Dudley, I often share it.

Someone above mentioned "Start With Why". Along with that, there is a newer title "Find Your Why." I'm a big fan of Simon Sinek, but the book I like the most is "Leaders Eat Last".

Simon Sinek's TEDTalks are really good. There are a lot of leadership talks on TED and his stand out to me. There are a lot of theory books on leadership - but not sure that is what you are asking for.
Also, are we talking leader or manager? Fine line but learning the difference in the two helped me understand my leadership style a lot. I don't know your field, but understanding supervision as a management requirement is a great way to impact your leadership style. Google might help you narrow down if there are any experts in your field on that.

Leadership and Self-Deception by the Arbinger Institute. It's a super easy read, it reads like a story. I also like Daniel Pink's Drive. Here's a quick video about the book www.youtube.com/watch?v=aJWH84Nwucc

But in different places it would be a manager. I'm an RN and am the leader for my clinic. I have 2 RN's, 2 MA's a secretary and a bunch of resident doctors that I oversee. This leadership is new to me (2 years new) in that I have to enact discipline and am pretty much in charge of what happens in the clinic.

This is a textbook, but it is a good one. It is all about leadership from the health professional's view. I don't know if I would buy it for personal use, but you can rent it off of Amazon for pretty cheap. I think it really focuses in on how health professionals have different challenges in their environments. It also does a great job explaining the theories of leadership.

Figuring out your leadership style will be very beneficial to you as you start this new position.
I'm in a leadership program right now through our Chamber of Commerce. It's a 9 month program and it's been so helpful to me. Many cities or chambers have something similar to this - check out your local area and see if you can find one. It's worth the time!

I really liked the Culture Code and the Talent Code by Daniel Coyle. I liked Culture Code so much that I gifted a copy to my boss when he got promoted into a bigger role! I also liked Leaders Eat Last. Herding Tigers is another one that I remember being good.
I like to listen to Michael Hyatt’s podcast called Lead to Win. He also has a monthly Leaderbox which includes two books per month and a reading guide. I’ve been getting it for about six months or so and there’s really only been one book I didn’t enjoy.

I have an app called Blinkist which gives you a 15 minutish synopsis/high points of hundreds of books in the leadership/self-help space which you can either read or listen to. I have limited time to read right now so I listen to a lot of leadership books to glean the highlights/major points. The cost is $80 a year but if you Google blinkist coupon, you can usually find a code or link for 50% off. They are perfect to listen to while walking the dog or during my commute.
All of the books mentioned are on blinkist.
I second The Culture Code and Start with Why. I also like John Maxwells Five levels of leadership and developing the leader within you. I love Brene Brown's Darineg Greatly and am excited to read her latest book Dare to Lead

The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership: Follow Them and People Will Follow You by John C. Maxwell. This was required reading for undergrads that wanted to do student leadership. So glad I read it. I also like Simon Sinek, he also posts some good content on LinkedIn.
