I'm looking for a name that would be perfect for a 40-something small town hockey mom in a story. She's quirky, a little sassy, determined, and an extroverted introvert. I don't want to use any variation of Angie, no Lisa, no Kelli, no Shannon, no Jill, no Deb(bie), no Michelle/Danielle/Chantelle/Rachelle, . . . what would you use?

Heidi. She is the most hockey/Boy Scout mom you have ever met.

If she's 40-something, she would have been born in the 1970s. I like Jennifer (Jenn) Kim, or Amy. I feel like a short, monosyllable name kind of goes with a strong character like what you're describing. Jennifer was THE most popular name of the 70s, but most Jennifers I know now use the name Jenn. Very cool that you're writing, BTW. Always wanted to do that. Good luck!

Annette. She could recalled different names by her friends and family.

Did you look at the top name lists for the 80s? Jessica, Amanda, Stephanie, Samantha, Megan, Rebecca . . . this is what I'd do... I'm running through names of other girls I went to school with (graduated in 1987)- Diane, Joanne, Melissa, Tara, Robin, Regina... other Jennifers, of course-- Heidi, Carrie, Cheri... Amy is a good one- Annette, too.

Suzi, because it isn't a 70's or 80's name.

I'm from a small hockey town. The ladies I know that are actual hockey moms are: Cammie, Karla, Jo (Johanna), Dawn, and Tori. And they fit your demographic and personality descriptions!

Can I ask where it's set? It may make a difference in my answer. And is the character of any certain nationality?

So many good suggestions—this is harder than naming my kids 😄. Thanks for the ideas! (The setting is Canada, where we ‘do’ hockey mom exceptionally well.)

My friend would second Mandy. ( Amanda). We went to school with one. I think that she was an absolute bitch. He absolutely loved her. She is the only girl that he would have gone straight for m, if she had shown any interest in him other than a friend. She had a physical handicapped and used it to make herself a rebel. He said nothing/nobody kept her down and she did more than half the people did in high school.
