I have a horrid yeast infection. I took the one dose pill from my doctor and that didn't help. So I got another one and took that. I've been using over the counter stuff and now it's worse.
What else can I do?

Are you sure that it is a yeast infection?

You probably need to go get an exam and find out if it is a yeast infection or something else.

Call the doctor and go in to get it cultured. There are other medications they can prescribe to do the job, if it's yeast. But, they'll want to make sure that's what you're dealing with first.

If you don't want to, do the 7 day suppositories.

I'd also suggest applying a lubricant like the KY light gel as the outside area is likely dry and that can cause intense itching too.

If it hasn't been cultured by your Dr you really need to go. It may not be a yeast infection at all.

Choices: \
1. Keep suffering.
2. go to dr., make sure it is yeast infection and get some relief.
Your call on what to do.

Diflucan can take 24 hours to work.
You need to go back to your doctor and get an a1c test a long with cultures to see what is going on.

Pretty much. You are two treatments in and it’s worse. I don’t think trying more OTC or home remedies is the answer.

If Diflucan isn’t working, you need it cultured.
And even if it is yeast, they may want to find out why your body can’t kick it even with diflucan, such as a weakened immune system.

Might be a bacterial infection instead of yeast. It can cause itching too. Go to the doctor! Hope you are better soon!

Go to the doctor! I thought i had a yeast infection last time. Over the counter stuff didn't help. Turned out it was a sort of dermatitis! I needed steroid creams to get rid of it.

I love how matter of fact everyone is in this thread. OP, I get you. We have been spoiled by the availability of good fixes OTC for a long while now, it's been years since I've had to go to the doctor because my junk itched and then show someone - I'm not sure I'm that kind of a girl anymore. I'd rather just try one thing after another that doesn't quite work and stay home dying of mortification. You're probably going to have to go OP.

Where's Melissa when we need her? She'll tell you to go to you doctor! There's no need to be bashful, they see this stuff every single day. /off topic - I've had you on my mind lately, Dixie Lou . How are things with your father?

Why wouldn’t you go to the doctor? Just go. It could be easily treated. Why suffer?!

I haven’t had a yeast infection for about 11 years, but the last one was horrible. Not to mention we were out of state visiting family. Ugh. This is bringing back bad memories.
Anyway, I used either the one or three day creams and that made it feel so much worse. I remember reading somewhere (maybe here?) that some people are sensitive to the med in the one and three day creams. That was definitely true for me. It took awhile to feel better. I think I did end up going to the doctor when we got home.
I hope you are feeling better soon!

The only thing that ever works for me is the 7 day cream that I have to get by prescription. I don't know the name of it unfortunately but the doctor will know. Those pills don't do a thing for me either. My sympathies; it's frustrating.

I absolutely hate going to the doctor especially for something like this. And now that I am on my own insurance I have to go to the city clinic. I would rather go to a gyn.
But anyway I called and she returned my call but I was in a parent conference. I will call again tomorrow. I’m hoping that my last ditched effort helps.
Thank you everyone !

i had what i thought was a yeast infection years ago... didn't respond to regular treatment. turned out it was gardnerella. i needed an oral antibiotic (i think i was an antibiotic?) called Flagyl. it can be passed like an STI but i believe like yeast, the bacteria already exists in the vagina but when things get out of a balance it can over-produce and symptoms are similar to a yeast infection. it was before i was married to my husband and had only been together less than a year - i remember quizzing my doc about how would i have gotten this!! go get it dealt with. that is the worst kind of discomfort! whenever i don't wanna deal with something medical i remind myself, the quicker it is diagnosed, the easier the treatment. chin up, shoulders back - just do it!

I agree. Time to go see your MD. If diflucan didn't help, it sounds like you might have a bacterial infection and will need an antibiotic. In the meantime, cut all your sugars and try to eat some plain yogurt and keep your gut healthy.

A yeast infection can get really, really bad. Like," unable to wear any kind of pants because it has spread outside of your body and onto your legs"-bad. A friend of mine is a doctor, and this was one of her first cases out of med school. If OTC won't help, seeing a doctor is your only option.
