Have you ever deal with the stuff from an office?
My husband is an engineer.
We had boxes stuff from his first office, plus boxes that another ( retiring) engineer gave him. I know that engineer gave him that crap because that engineer’s wife probably threatened to harm him if he brought it home.
It took me five years to remove that stuff from my house. AND THEN, he resigns from his job. Oh holy Toledo, there are ten more boxes sitting in the garage. At some point I am going to have to help my son gently remove that stuff.
My husband loves fing boxes of paper.

You are going to have so much room when you’re finished!
Not work stuff. But hardware, odds and ends, stuff I have no idea what it’s got. computer cables that go to who knows what. My brother came and organized my basement shelves, kind of. He threw out boxes of stuff.

When we have changed jobs, it's not unusual to come home with a couple boxes of items. It might sit there for a few days, but then we just go through it and put it away or get rid of it like anything else. Reference materials go on the book shelf. Items that are duplicates but may be needed for a next job, like a calculator or family photos in frames or extra phone charger, go in a clear plastic bin to take to the next job. If there is no next job, then we keep the nicest version of the thing and donate the duplicate.
No magic trick, just going through and putting it away or getting rid of it. How long has he been out of the job? He needs to go through it but may need a little time.
I have no doubt you guys are hoarders from what you've posted. So it isn't going to be as simple as put it away.

I admit that in a past scrapbookers life I was addicted to buying Basic Grey paper collections. It is just sitting on a shelf getting old and dated, but I can`t throw it out and nowhere to donate it.

The last house we bought came with an entire drawer full of instruction manuals, with the date of purchase written neatly on each one. This was in 2012. Some of the manuals were from the early 1980s.

You can donate it to me! 😂 Basic grey was one of my favorite paper companies ever! Was just talking about this to a friend last week while scrapping. I was using scraps of basic grey to make a layout that I know were probably 12-14 yrs old.

It’s hard as a professional. If he sealed projects he’s responsible for them pretty much forever. In fact engineers estates have been sued. Not that he needs to keep all of it but there’s some he might have to keep and discerning the difference can be overwhelming

DH is an engineer and amassed many boxes of papers, manuals, books, etc. from a 40 year career. This past year he has finally started to get rid of them. Some has gone to the office at his new company for the younger engineers to use as reference. Lots has gone to the shredder. What he has realized now is that due to advances in technology, so much of the stuff he saved for years is now out of date. He just tackled the huge pile of business cards a few weeks ago. Scanned them with his phone and saved to a file, then tossed a bag full of old business cards. When you've got that much stuff, you just have to tackle it in small amounts a box at a time. Good luck! I admit that in a past scrapbookers life I was addicted to buying Basic Grey paper collections. It is just sitting on a shelf getting old and dated, but I can`t throw it out and nowhere to donate it. You should list it on eBay, then take the money and buy more stuff for miniatures! Just did a quick check on completed listings on eBay and the sell through rate is very high - and it gets good prices.

My husband came with a binder of instruction manuals in page protectors for everything he bought. I can see certain things for warranty or repair info. But he also had books for his toaster, electric shaver, etc.

I need to know more about that, can that be looked up through the PE journal?

I can’t remember if it was the architect or the engineer who’s estate was sued. The suit was settled out of court and I can’t find the settlement. I remember it because I was rather shocked that the judge allowed it. Then again anyone can sue anyone if the judge will let them.

GypsyGirl I don`t have full collections anymore and the cost of postage in the UK would put most people off from buying I would think. Funny you should mention minis. I found several pages of small prints and the smudgy effects BG did so well, and used them for wallpaper. So all is not lost. If you lived closer twistedscissors you could help yourself and be very welcome.

Omg. Fortunately my husband doesn’t stamp much these days. He doesn’t do much with designing structures.

I put some of it in an art project tote that I can pull out when he needs to make something crafty for school projects. I saved some magazines for that purpose too.
