I stopped to realize we're in NOVEMBER, and I'm now 11 months into these surgeries and recoveries. I had NO idea that this "journey" would take a year. I don't have a right to whine since my surgeon has accomplished what no other skilled surgeon could imagine doing before, but I'm now whining........
I go back on Wednesday to make sure I'm finally all recovered. If that's the case, I should move onto the next phase (creating the prosthesis, which should take a few weeks). Problem is that now DH is finally going for a 2nd opinion about removing his bladder & prostate (bladder cancer). I'm guessing they'll want to do it asap since he & Medicare/Humana have been going back and forth about a 2nd opinion and about him not "needing" to consult with an Oncologist.... He's a high risk, complicated case, so I'm hoping he'll be okay and it could be done soon. His health comes first, but that means my final recovery is on hold. I'd never say anything to him, of course, but, damn, I just want to be DONE before we begin his long surgery and recovery.
Whine over! I'll see what my surgeon says on Wednesday and maybe SOMEHOW, I could find someone to finish this in the 3 weeks I have until he begins with his surgeon.......

You are most welcome to whine here! That is a lot to deal with, and I totally get not wanting to lay it on your DH.

I hope you get an excellent report on Wednesday. You must be so tired of doctors and hospitals. Hoping you can get the worst of all this behind you.

That’s not whining. And even if it was, it’s warranted whining. 😏 I’m sure part of it is that mentally and physically it will be a lot better for you and him to have your medical needs complete before starting the battle for his. I feel that way about things, I need one less thing on my brain before I begin a new fight ya know. Good luck. I hope the timing works out for your both.

It's so hard to be dealing with so much medical stuff for so long.
I really hope the timing works out. You may have to adopt the attitude of fitting it in the best you can - realizing you can't control it all so there's no sense in getting upset by it. You'll make it work, one way or another.

That is a ton of crap that you're both dealing with. Whining is warranted! I hope it helps to vent here, everyone cares about you. I'm really sorry that you're having to put your recovery on hold for your husband's treatment. I always pray for you both when you update, though I don't always comment. Big hugs to you.

I am so hoping for you that everything is on track for a prosthesis!
I also can’t believe that you and your dh have to fight for him to see an Oncologist- you would think that with cancer, that would be a given, not something you have to fight for. How utterly frustrating.
I am sending prayers for you and your dh on both fronts.

How utterly frustrating. I am sending prayers for you and your dh on both fronts. I know! Medicare has to go by their little handbook, and they say that he has to get that 2nd opinion and even get the organs removed via a regular Urologist. Only if he has symptoms after that, will he get further testing or be seen by an Oncologist. It's disgusting and wrong......
Thank you for your prayers (for both of us). I really didn't plan on my surgeries and recoveries being a year, but I'm getting to the finishline soon. I get sick of people asking me, "Aren't you finished YET?" as though I'm happy to still be wearing a patch. The worst is behind me, but I'd like to be 100% finished so I could focus on DH.
Thinking of you, elaine, and following your updates. xo
A BIG THANK YOU to everyone who posted here. I really do appreciate it!!

You really should add a foot stomp or two to your whine. You deserve it!
As always, you are both in my prayers.

When you're running triage in your living room you have every right to whine. Reaching out for support is healthy and you are being honest. You want to be able to be your dh's caretaker while he goes through treatment and surgery. That makes complete sense to me. For now, just know that you can come here for support.
I hate that you're not supposed to see an oncologist for cancer. That doesn't even make sense. What good is Medicare if it won't pay for necessary medical care?

Whining allowed here! But yours isn't whining! You've been through a lot and are dealing with a lot still. I don't know what's involved in getting the prosthesis but I'm sure there's some recovery time. Just think of it as you waiting for that down time so that you can be at your strongest/best for your DH while he's weak and recovering from his procedures. ((hugs)) to you. You may come to the peas but you're not whining to your DH so you're being a very good wife!

You may come to the peas but you're not whining to your DH so you're being a very good wife! Thank you so much, Susie Homemaker! In the past it's been a pretty simple process to have a prosthesis made. They take a mold of your socket (slightly uncomfortable) and then make an acrylic duplicate of your 'good' eye, paint it and even add red string for your veins. It's artistic and detailed. Normally you could have it done over a very long day, or over a month, depending on the Ocularist. A good Ocularist takes into consideration if you're traveling far and tries to set aside one entire day to get it done. It gets polished and finished and that's it.
In my case, I had to find a very talented Ocularist who would take my case. It was a 50/50 chance that I could even get to this point. Not sure if it will work out, but I'm trying. It's a tough case. I haven't even lined one up yet, but I have 2 names of the best people here in FL to do it. Hoping I'll get the clearance to get it done, and then praying I could find one of them who could actually do it during the next few weeks........ otherwise I'll have to wait and see when I could do it in between DH's surgery and appointments. I just want to FINISH!
P.S.: You could look it up on YouTube. It's artistic and interesting......

It was a 50/50 chance that I could even get to this point. Not sure if it will work out, but I'm trying. Thank you for the info. I think that they can even create a prosthesis for a human eye is fascinating. I've "fussed" at you before for having doubts and I'm doing it again. You've beat the odds this far so it WILL all work out and you'll find the perfect ocularist to do this for you. The timing may not be perfect but it will be in God's timing and that's what counts.

It's really like a thick contact lens made out of acrylic, but the artwork is amazing. It only works if you have a good implant behind it.
Thank you so much for your continued hope for me! That is so sweet! I do hope at this point that it'll work out, but ALL I could think about is DH's long road ahead...... I'll keep y'all updated. (The Peas are the BEST!!).
