This is just a simple poll and it doesn’t matter which party. I did not and I was wondering if this is common. Vermont is known as quite a blue state overall and yet we re-elected our Republican governor. Our state legislature definitely leans left. Especially with local positions, the person, their views, and what I knew about them as a person is what I looked at...sometimes they were Democrats, sometimes Republicans, and sometimes they were another party. I was just curious if this election was the year of voting a straight party ticket? I don’t consider it a negative thing, just wondered how common it was. ETA: Hahaha - sorry about Where instead of were, absolutely failed to follow the proofread policy. And strike 2, I can’t figure out how to fix it.

I did not vote all one party. I voted for 1 independent and 1 3rd party in local elections. I did avoid 1 party though.
If Huegin would have run as an independent he would probably be a senator elect today. No one really likes Menendez but the like republicans less.

Nope. I was pretty split - local elections were one party and state and national were a different party.

Yes, during this election.
But that was be sure those candidates were the ones who reflect my views and they happen ed to all be running in the same party.

This is how I vote. Most of our races were very close and due to the new law they might have to wait until Thursday to officially declare. Mail in ballots now have to be postmarked by Election Day and arrive at the county clerk by 2 days later. So clisersces will take 2 days for them to be official

No, because in some cases there were two members from the same party running against each either.

No, mostly one direction, but it wasn’t a straight ticket for me. Overall, I’m happy with how my specific votes went. Variety is good.

Straight ticket? No, because I voted for three Green Party candidates.
But in intention, yes. I didn’t vote for any Republicans, so I did consciously eschew any candidates affiliated with one of the two major parties - because of their unfettered support of Donald Trump.

I'm Canadian, so I didn't vote. We're I Americsn, there would've been a time where locally I'd have voted by the person not the party. But because of all the gerrymandering and corruption within the GOP, if I were there I'd never vote for them again.

This year, yes, to send a message to Republicans.

This year, yes, to send a message to Republicans. This. I voted blue straight down the line. And in the races where the only choice was a republican, I didn’t vote. I refused to color in a circle for any of them.

In my red state, there were some elections that had only republican candidates on the ballot, so I voted for the best of the ones running. But where I could, I voted D.
A disclaimer - I am registered republican because when I registered to vote a million years ago, that's what My father told me to do. In LA, you have to be registered in the party to vote in a primary, and LA is so red, it's the only way to get to vote in those primaries.
I have never voted strictly on party, but on the person running regardless of affilliation.

Yes all blue but not necessarily for the incumbent if two democrats were running against each other.

Nope, I don’t think I’ve ever voted by party only. But I’m neither a Democrat nor a Republican.

This time, my votes were all for Democrats (in the partisan races - obviously in non-partisan races, I don't know). That's not always the case, though. There were only three partisan races on my ballot and none of the Republicans running represented my values, so I voted all Democrat because they were the best candidates. Historically, I've usually voted R in at least a race or two.

I have always prided myself as an independent thinking person who would never pull a straight ticket, but instead would always weigh the merits of each candidate and make a decision totally separate from which party they represented. And that's what I did for 40+ years.
Until yesterday. Yesterday I filled in that effin single black circle with my effin black pen so hard I thought I'd put a hole in the ballot. And it felt good.

Yes. I didn't used to be a party ticket voter, but I am now. There is one particular person I plugged my nose as I voted for because I'm not a fan of her, but that vote was more a vote AGAINST the person she was running against!

I have never voted a straight party ticket.
I’d love it if we did away with political parties.

Straight ticket and was in agreement with the party recommendations on ballot measures.
I have voted straight ticket in almost all elections I’ve ever voted in. I voted R for sheriff once.
I’m fine with voting straight ticket. I certainly wasn’t going to vote for a Unite the Right darling candidate like Corey Stewart to make some sort of statement about party affiliation. The other race I voted in was for an incumbent D who I like, straight ticket it was for me.

There was one Republican running for Commisioner of Agriculture who got my vote. He was running unopposed, though. Every other person I voted for was a Democrat.

Yes, for the first time ever (and I'm old!) Although I am not affiliated with either party, no Republican was getting a vote from me in this election.

I voted R for sheriff once. Around here sheriff, commissioners, mayors, clerks etc do not run under any particular party affiliation that I know of. I couldn't tell you who our sheriff is registered with (if he even is) and he attends the church where my husband preaches. All you see on the ballot is there names, and I assume it could be people running against each that support the same party.

I left that one blank.

There have been many times when I voted for all the candidates from one party, but I vote for each office separately. I never fill out the straight ticket box.

No, we had a number of offices for which there was no Dem running. For those, I went with independent or 3rd party candidates. I had to do a write in for one, because there was only one candidate and I wasn't giving him my vote.

I’m pretty sure I voted for all one party. That wasn’t my intent. But I didn’t like the republicans that were running. I felt voting for a third party candidate would only hurt the democrat candidate.
