Hi - I would like to delete my Facebook account. How in the world do you delete your account? Here is the help from Facebook: If you deactivate your account, your profile disappears from the Facebook service immediately. People on Facebook won't be able to search for you, though some info, like messages you sent, may still be visible to others. We also save your profile information (ex: friends, photos, interests) in case you want to come back. If you don't think you'll use Facebook again, you can request to have your account permanently deleted. Please keep in mind that you won't be able to reactivate your account or retrieve anything you've added. Before you do this, you may want to download a copy of your info from Facebook. Then, if you'd like your account permanently deleted with no option for recovery, log into your account and let us know. If you can't log in to your account, you'll need to reset your password first. To do this, go to www.facebook.com and click the Forgot your password? link below the password field. Once you’ve followed the instructions to reset your password and can log into your account, you can deactivate or delete your account using the steps outlined above.
Huh? Did I miss something? I don't see the steps above to delete. I have been trying to find out how to do this for over an hour. Thank you for the help in advance.

They don't make it easy, do they? I deleted my account awhile back and I remember having the same issue. Glad you figured it out.

If I remember correctly, don't try to log in after you delete it - it doesn't delete it immediately and it takes a few days. So don't tempt yourself into logging in to see if it in fact deleted.
ETA from my search online: Your profile isn't deleted right away! You must NOT log in to, or interact in any other way with Facebook for at least two weeks, as it will cancel the deletion request. That includes NOT logging in to Facebook using any client (like the iPhone app or IM:s like Pidgin), NOT clicking embedded Like-buttons on other websites, NOT logging in to other services using Facebook Connect (like Digg) etc etc. Hey, while your're at it, delete all your browsing/forms history and cookies as well, to minimize the risk of accidentally using your account!

mrsscrapdive - Thanks for the information. But I can't even find the screen to delete. I found deactivate but I was to delete. Their "help" is no help. Any idea where to do this? Also do you have any directions or links to tell me how to delete my browsing/forms history and cookies.
Thanks for any help.

In the Facebook Desktop Help (where you were before) If you don't think you'll use Facebook again, you can request to have your account permanently deleted. Please keep in mind that you won't be able to reactivate your account or retrieve anything you've added. Before you do this, you may want to download a copy of your info from Facebook. Then, if you'd like your account permanently deleted with no option for recovery, log into your account and let us know.
click on the actual words "let us know" (it is a link) it will bring you to www.facebook.com/help/delete_accountand follow the steps. It does take a few days to get it deleted on their end You delete your cookies in Internet Explorer under: Tools Internet Options

Thank you. I did not realize "Let us know" is a link.
Facebook turned my personal account into a business account and they won't change it back. I wouldn't have cared so much but my groups and friends are gone. I was selling used scrapbook supplies and used baby stuff.
So I am going to start all over.
Thanks again.
