They are all minivans and round.
I will be getting a new car soon. I would like a small SUV. Why, oh why, did they do away with SUV’s?
I want square. I want to ride off the ground. I want a freaking SUV.
Such issues in my life. Lol!

Try one of the littler of the Jeep line-up? They are square-ish. I have a Yukon . . . I don't do 'small' well but I love it and would recommend one . . . I'm on my 4th!

have you looked at the Ford Flex? We really love ours - it's not small though, I would call it mid-size but Ford is calling the 2019 fullsize

Small SUV's? Honda CRV, Toyota Rav4, Ford Escape, Jeep Cherokee come to mind off the top of my head. I'm sure there are more. I see them all over the place here. Was there a particular feature that you're not finding (other than a boxy shape). They all ride high. I have a Nissan Juke which is a compact SUV, and even it rides higher than a car, which is one of the reasons I like it.

I'll always drive a Subaru as long as I live in St. Paul Minnesota, and they are not square but I admit whenever I see the squarish Kia Soul, I am intrigued! It might be more a crossover than an SUV, but I find it so cute! There is a cute new Jeep model that is kind of squarish. Good look in finding something.

Jeep Renegade is fairly square. Available in 4x4, so off the ground. Still small and easily maneuverable.

Get a Jeep Wrangler. Though when I test drove them recently, I had to admit to myself that I really prefer comfort and I bought another Chrysler 300.
I think I am still going to get one eventually because I love camping in the mountains. My son has one.

Honda Pilot is kinda square and the 2019 reads that it seats 8. I think it also has the option of captains' chairs in the middle row. If I needed a bigger car to haul kids, I'd probably get a Pilot.
I'm not a fan of the Jeep line up of vehicles but they are definitely square.

I have looked at every major manufacturer. I do not like the crossover look. They all sit too low and have a rounded back end. Maybe I need to spend more time on the lots and not looking online.
I will look up the ones mentioned here. Thank you!
I really wish they had the old body style of the Explorer or Escape.

I've been saying the same thing to DH. My Explorer is the older boxy style and I love it, but it's going to be time for a new one in the next couple of years and I don't see anything I like. Like you said, the newer SUVs are smaller and lower to the ground. DH has a Ford Escape from work and it's SO different. than the Explorer. He calls it a fake SUV

I highly recommend the Lincoln Navigator. It's not small but it's also not a minivan and not round(?).
We looked at an Expedition as a second vehicle. We'll probably purchase on Fri. It's also neither a minivan nor round.

Last Winter we downgraded from a Yukon XL to a Chevy Traverse. I love it. Not so big, but still lots of space and I'm not sitting low to the ground.

I know what you mean. Just when I'm ready to ditch the minivan and get something different, all the small suvs look like minivans. DH wants a Ford so I'll probably have to settle for the Escape.

Look for a leaked picture of the upcoming 2020 ford bronco. I think it's coming in a baby version too. It may be what you are looking for

We bought a new to us Enclave about a month ago. Not a crossover, rounded body fan. We found out that most "SUV"s are not on truck-body frames anymore, resulting in a lower ride, which is killer for my motion sickness. I compromised on the rounded body on the Enclave, because it seems to sit up a little higher than others. We did not like the price tag of Yukons, Tahoes and Suburbans.
ETA: GMC Acadias and Chevy Traverses sit and feel like the Enclaves.

My Honda Odyssey is 11 years old with over 220,000 miles and I am ready to downsize. I would love another Honda but the Pilot is still too big (and frankly, it looks like a minivan) and I hate the way the back end of the CRV looks. I don't necessarily hate a rounder SUV but just don't find the back of the CRV aesthetically appealing. Pretty sure I would love everything else so I guess I need to decide how much it would bother me.
Anyway... I hear 'ya OP! Many of the newer crossovers look more like mini-minivans than SUVs.

Toyota 4Runner still has a boxier look. I prefer the look of it over the Highlander, but found the Highlander had more room, was more comfortable, and offered a smoother ride.

It is late and my brain is a little foggy, law was enacted that car manufacturers had to increase fuel efficiency by x amount by x date. This law has been tweaked over the years, but the purpose was to reduce fuel consumption so that the USA was not as dependent on foreign oil. I believe the goal date was 2020, but has now been extended to 2025. The cutting down in size and rounding of the vehicles was/is an attempt to get better mileage in order to meet the standards. I am so glad I bought when I did as I'm not thrilled with all the trimming down of the SUVs.

I’m on my second Escape and I like it a lot. The back seats fold down flat giving me quite a bit of space to haul stuff, and five people can fit reasonably comfortably. It’s definitely NOT like a minivan which I expressly did not want.

When I mentioned this to my friends, they all thought I was crazy. I wanted a square SUV and not a minivan look alike. So. many crossovers. Not for me. I ended up with a Toyota 4 Runner. It is square.
OP, so glad to know I am not crazy, or if I am, I am in good company.
ETA: In my old SUV (Trailblazer,) I got about 286 miles per tank. With my 4 Runner, I get a good 80-90 miles more per tank and they both hold the same amount.
ETA Part Deux: A lady I know had 2 4Runners. One had 150,000 and the other had 200,000. That worked for me.

I got a new car a couple of months ago. I went against every fiber in my being and got a Jeep Grand Cherokee. It is very luxurious and so much more comfortable than the Jeep Wrangler that I traded in, so I like that. But I hate how my new car looks like ALL THE OTHER CARS in the parking lot!
My brother is a general manager at a car dealership and I was talking to him the other day about what a pain it is to find my car in parking lots now because it looks like all the other crossovers. He said the previous administration put into law that by 2020(?) all cars had to be more energy efficient by so much of a percentage more than they had been. The solution was for all cars to have that feature where the car stops running at red lights (we talked about that a few weeks ago here) and for cars to be shaped more aerodynamically. Hence, this is why there are no more boxy type cars and big SUV's.
Cindy
ETA: I'm not an expert on this issue, so if someone has more info on this subject, please feel free to correct me. I know they still sell big trucks and Suburban type vehicles, so I'm not sure how that works except that they may be offset by the large number CAFE cars on the road (small cars like the Fiat).

He calls it a fake SUV we used to have an Explorer in the mid 90's. It was ok. Recently my GFs and I rented the new Explorer for a road trip. It was fantastic! It had all the bells and whistles and a third row. The great thing about it was it rode so smooth and handled really well (accordingly to my tiny sister who drove the entire time). Right now we are on our 2nd Lexus SUV but the Explorer would be a great choice if we ever needed a car with a third row.

I bought a Dodge Durango for this reason. It is basically an extended jeep grand Cherokee. But the back is flatter and squarer and doesn’t have that horrible sloped glass that limits cargo room.

I have a Soul and when I bought it in 2014 it was classified as a station wagon on my registration. Sometime in the last 3 years they’ve changed the classification to SUV. I don’t think it sits high enough to be called a SUV. I do love my Soul though!

I still drive a 2003 Honda Pilot. The new Pilots are unrecognizable as a Pilot. It doesn't even really look like a minivan to me - more like an oversized long car. I don't like it at all.

Hmm, not sure if these fit your criteria but my SIL just got a Honda HRV. It is super nice! And one of my girls has a Nissan Rogue. Her sisters don't like it but she loves it. It's her kinda car. I think maybe once you drive something, you will change your mind. There are some great ones out there.

Toyota 4Runners have stayed more boxy over the years as other cars have rounded off their designs. That might be bigger in size than you’re looking for, though.
