Saturday afternoon, I drove off the lot with a 2019 Forester Sport. It is just too cute. I have been driving a Ford Edge for the last 9 years. Love, love, loved that car. The only reason I decided to go new was that ODS just bought a 2018 Outback 2.5 mos ago. He loves it. Great gas mileage and all the bells and whistles. His first truly adult purchase.
So cut to me doing research and finding out about all the safety features of a Subaru. The longevity of Subies. People who have love them and can't say enough about them.
What else do I need to know about them? I know oil change every 6000 miles. Other maintenance I need to know about. Any tips, hints or what have you? I remember a thread about Subaru cars maybe 3-4 weeks ago. I need to search that out and see what else I can read about them.

I don't have many tips to give you...but I hope that you enjoy your new car. I have a 2016 Forester and I do like it. The main reason I went with the Forester was because of the high clearance and that it is a great car for winter driving. I live in Vermont and work 2nd shift, so many times driving into work or home in winter storms can be a little bit dicey...but my little silver Subie handles it like a trooper (with snow tires). My favorite option is the heated seats...hope you got those badboys. My problem is there are about a gazillion of them around here, so sometimes I have a hard time finding it. There are a few things that I don't like, but I won't mention them so not to influence you and place those annoyances in your head. (ETA - maybe they have "fixed" them also.) My parents just replace their 2012 forester with a 2018 and there are some subtle differences between the 2016 and the 2018.

I've had multiple Subarus, currently a Baja, so NOT hard to find cuz not many of that model. What I do find is they seem to handle better in snow. I always thought it was possibly because of lower center of gravity/not top heavy. Spoiler: it's Subaru's systematic all wheel drive that only needs one wheel to have traction to get up and go. I also have since seen videos like this one that may explain better. thingsyoumustknow.com/best-all-wheel-drive-awd-system-on-the-planet-subarus-symmetric-all-wheel-drive/

Being from the south, we don't get much snow. We did have a very unexpected snow day last week but nothing on the roads. I did hear that we will have a colder, wetter winter so I am keeping my fingers crossed that I get to try it out. compeateropeator it is my understanding that really amped up this Forester from older models. I have been watching Youtube after Youtube and I can't remember all they said but some differences were major and some minor. I had read the seats weren't comfy and now they are. I think the seats are very comfy. At least the driver seat is. AND YES!! Heated seats, push-button start and moonroof were my non-budge items. I also got Starlink for the first 3 years and have remote start. I used that little feature this morning. Never had that before either. I can see where that will be a great thing to have this winter. I would be interested in hearing your "little things". Talking about so many in your neck of the woods, I have only seen one other in the little town I am in. AND I look for them. The further north in the state, the number does pick up though.

One thing that I love about it is the turning radius. Man I can turn that thing on a dime. Subaru is the unofficial car of Vermont (and New England). We can't all be wrong. I read an article about a year ago (so it might have changed) that Vermont was the state where the Subaru was most popular. I believe it when I look around. I hope you have many years of good luck and happy driving with your new car...ENJOY!

Yes, the turning radius is what I realized almost immediately. Leaving the lot we turned left to get the salesperson to fill the gas tank. I realized that I needed to do a tight turn to get the tank on the correct side. I was blown away. I thought my Edge was good, this thing is great. I am not sure that I noticed the fan sounding loud. Again, I am comparing everything to a 2010 Edge. So, while that was my fave car, I am trying hard not to compare the two.
