Lord have mercy, I forgot how loud they were. Our home had gotten so quiet and it's a bit of a shock.
What are your favorite and least favorite parts of empty nesting?

Mine only live about 15 minutes away and when they come by, it is always mealtime. One kiddo leaves shortly after we eat and the other one stays to watch Hawaii 5-O and swat with my husband. The puppy is always beside herself when this kid pops in. She will spend 20 minutes trying to get his attention. My favorite part is giving them my leftovers.

I love the quiet and I hate the quiet. DS especially is just LOUD.
It’s really too far for the kids to come home from college, so they are at my brother’s house now in Minneapolis. I talked to them earlier and they all seemed to be having a good time.

I think my husband wants to sell the house that son is living in , so son can move back in.
I think son is exhausting.

I adore them being home BUT they go out with their friends a lot ( which is fine). But when they come home (late) the dog goes ape shit. Yawn! I just want to sleep through the night!

When DS comes home I just love it as he does look after himself but when he cooks he makes a mess and does not clean up MY kitchen the way I like it!

Elder DD lives close by so is here frequently and mostly with her 2 year old which is wonderful. He's loud and messy as 2 year olds are but there's no down side Younger DD lives 2 hours away but manages to visit quite often. Best bit - sitting with a cuppa and just nattering with her like we always used to do. Worst bit - I have to change the bedlinen on the spare bed

My middle DS is so much louder than the other two. He is the one who has moved out, he has his own home across town. When he comes over I love seeing him but the volume in the house instantly doubles.

I have dd and her plus 4 for a week. We are enjoying them, but I know what you all mean. Empty nest is very nice.

DD lives nearby, so it's great when she visits. But, we are better friends when we do not live together.
DS and his kids are 850 miles away, so they are here 3 times per year. It's chaos and cuddles and I love it. BUT, they destroy my normally tidy house. I love when they come and I love when they leave!
I like to say the best thing about my empty nest is the scissors and tape are always in the drawer where I left them.

When they all come home, I sometimes feel invaded. It is usually just me and the kitties and doggies a d dh on the weekends. The girls come home and it gets chaotic and crazy. Whoever said they forgot how load they were is spot on. I love each and everyone, but chill out will ya!

What I don’t like is that it seems to excite the cats when he comes home. They decided to throw a cat party at 4:45 this morning. I was startled awake by Vinny sitting my chest, face an inch from mine, while Mabel found something fun, loud, and crinkly to play with on DH's nightstand.
What I love about him being home is seeing the ways he’s quietly matured, living away from us on his own. I also love how energized he is when he reconnects with HS friends because I know he’s been lonely at school.

I haven't had a down side yet - but I suspect it will be when he leaves. I found myself yesterday messing with his hair and just hugging him - all because he was here and I could.

Being able to talk with them whenever.
The dishes, so, so many. Ds is a vegetarian and cooks all his own separate stuff and gets drinks 10 times a day each time with a new glass. The dishwasher runs twice as much with one extra person.

I just love it when DD visits but, wow, the mess! Bags and clothes everywhere. Her visits are exactly the SNL sketch Back Home Baller youtu.be/ZmWH1F-caM8Even with as disruptive as her visits can be I wouldn’t trade a minute of her being home for anything in the world.
