We have 2 kids in school in Florida: one in Tampa and one in Orlando. We're spending the first weekend in Tampa and the last in Orlando and are trying to think of things to do during the week. We're going to skip Disney this trip but were thinking about Busch Gardens. We love to walk and go exploring. We're trying to finally have at least part of a honeymoon (we've been married a year and had to cancel our first one) so romantic is good too.
TIA!

When you're in Tampa, it's not too terribly far to go swimming with Manatees.
Also, depending on your dates and interests, there are baseball spring training games played in different areas.
We'll be in Fort Myers for a week in March and then spending the next week at Disney. I'm determined to have a retirement house on the Gulf Coast some day!

I thought about spring training to be honest but then hubby would want to take the boys with us which I normally wouldn't mind but kinda defeats the purpose of a honeymoon. Maybe I'll look anyway.
We're also looking to retire on the Gulf coast too...maybe we'll be neighbors!

Check out Gatorland! DH and I went years ago when we knew we would only have about a half day to kill and we were very pleasantly surprised by how fascinating it was. We thought it would be totally hokey but it was really pretty cool and wished we would have had more time there. Gatorland

Bok Tower Gardens in Lake Wales is pretty cool with a 250 "singing tower." Lots of amazing garden areas to walk around. I also love the little town of Mt. Dora to just spend a day shopping.

I really like St. Pete. They have a great little art museum and a Salvador Dali museum. There's a big pink Art Deco hotel whose name escapes me at the moment, and you can dine in their restaurant and it's delicious and fancy.

I second Big Cat Rescue! I was just there 2 weeks ago and will be returning February. If you have any interest in going, I’ll share a few more thoughts. If you do head to St. Pete, there’s the Chihuly Collection. It’s not large, but what they have is beautiful. I love Chihuly. I bought a vacation home south of Ft. Myers last year, and this year my god daughter started college at U of Tampa, so I imagine there will be many more visits to Tampa in the next few years. I’ll be watching this thread for more ideas.

Mystie the hotel you're referring to is The Vinoy and I am "this" close to making a reservation. It's a Marriott property and I talked it over with DH and we're going to use some of our points. It's absolutely beautiful!

The big pink hotel is the Don Cesar. We stayed there a couple of times in the past - a great old Florida hotel.

It had to be absolutely wonderful.

We really liked Eola Park in Orlando - it's just a city park around a lake - lots of ducks and swans and just peaceful.
DD liked the Cornell Fine Arts Museum (also Orlando).
Tampa - there was a nice little park on a beach we enjoyed - not sunbathing/swimming beach so much as a walk along and pick up seashells and enjoy beach. I think it was Picnic Island Park maybe?
Also Curtis Hixon Park (along the river in Tampa) and the Riverwalk.

I'd happily stay at either!

I thought of another place we liked...the Charles Hosmer Morse museum in Winter Park, a very cute town northeast of Orlando. If you like Tiffany glass, they have an outstanding collection. And it's just a neat town to walk around in, with older houses and shops. Nice and quiet change of pace from the Orlando tourist stuff.

Yes it is, although I didn’t know that until you asked and I looked it up! (Thanks).
