Hey everyone! I'm still feeling achy (is that a word?) but better than yesterday At least I don't appear to have the same degree of illness that dh had I could use a massage in the worst way ... maybe I'll get one on my Christmas break ... hey, that's an idea ... I posted this on Facebook this week because it's totally true Dinner tonight will be frozen lasagna and garlic bread ... easy peasy because I'm lazy and still under the weather My plans today are to relax and recover ... play my game on my phone and read ... maybe watch TV What are your plans today? What is on your menu tonight?

DDIL turned the turkey carcass over to me so I'll be in turkey soup mode today. If DH goes to the store for salad fixings (had to pitch a whole bag of romaine...grrr!) we'll have soup and salad. And, chocolate cheesecake!

I picked up a pizza for lunch and that may be what we work on for dinner too. If not, there is plenty of spaghetti left from last night. It's a cool, damp day here; it's perfect for sitting around and watching football. Our Georgia Bulldogs are killing poor Ga Tech. The shoe will be on the other foot when my South Carolina Gamecocks play Clemson later.
Glad to hear you are feeling a bit better leannec .
Send good thoughts to my aunt & uncle today. After living in Paradise, Ca for 30 years, they are getting in their car and driving to Southern California. They lost everything and basically have their cat and a few clothes. They briefly considered trying to rebuild in Paradise, but it will be YEARS before everything is back to normal. They will try to find a small place to live near their daughter in So Cal.

Hi from Krakow, We arrived here yesterday evening and it is cold and misty. Today, we walked around the Old Market Square, which is just down the street from our airbnb, then walked down and around the old Jewish Quarter. After lunch, we had a tour of Oskar Schindler’s factory, which is now a wonderful museum on the Nazi occupation of Krakow. Then back to the Market Square for more shopping (we have bought so much amber jewellery) and then dinner. We ate at a Polish restaurant recommended by our host, and it was so delicious. Tomorrow, we are going on a tour to Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp. I am not sure how I feel about it - I found Dachau very confronting, and it was not an extermination camp like Auschwitz. We’ve seen a lot of Jewish history over the past few days, both here and Prague, and this seems a fitting way to round that off.

Dh and Ds are at the end of the year/U-M vs OSU watching/touch football playing party for their league softball team- the team has been in existence for 30 years next year, which is unheard of in league ball! They will probably have pizza at sone point. I had an egg salad sandwich for lunch and a nap afterward. We still have Thanksgiving leftovers for dinner if anyone needs food later.

Oh, my sueg . I went to Dachau back in 1971 when I studied abroad for a year. My brother was with me and we did not talk going there or returning on the bus. So cold, dark, and stark. And then the exhibits - OMG. I will send you strength arrows for Auschwitz-Birkenau. Lots of strength arrows. It's rechauffe except we need, yes need, more mashed potatoes. Still have all the rest of the stuff. And chocolate pie remains, too. Enjoy the rest of the weekend- strength arrows to your relatives, tuesdaysgone . I cannot imagine the horror and then the starting over again. Thanks for the thread. Hope you are back to 100% soon, leannec.

desertgirl - On my first visit to Dachau, I didn’t make it all the way through. It was so cold, and the atmosphere there just made me feel even colder, so I asked DH to take me home after we had done the Admin block. It took me two further visits before r made it out the back to the crematorium.

We got sandwiches for lunch and I still have half of mine. I’ll have that with some chips, I guess. Dd cooked ravioli for dgd and herself. I wish I had a turkey carcass to make soup. My employer gives us a 22 pound frozen turkey the Monday before Thanksgiving. This year I donated mine to a shelter.

First off, I want to say to anyone who saved my Chinese chicken salad recipe that I posted last night in yesterday's thread ... I just checked with Cindy and she says she doesn’t use the MSG anymore. So you can cross that out of the recipe. I have DS, DIL, and the 9yo coming over for dinner in a couple of hours. (Her kids are with their dad.) We’re just having Thanksgiving leftovers ... turkey, gravy, very little stuffing, sweet potatoes, a little pumpkin pie, and I’m making fresh mashed potatoes and vegetables. There’s also lots of ice cream. Tomorrow I’ll start my turkey soup. I let it cook for a couple of days, because it’s special. Also, Cindy’s DH is giving me his turkey carcass so we’ll have turkey soup again sometime later in the winter. Crazy man doesn’t want to make turkey soup. christine58, I’m so glad your dad is finally home. sueg and desertgirl, I’d really like to go to Germany and Poland for a Holocaust tour, but I’m too chicken (so far). It’s just too dark and stressful and upsetting. Maybe someday. tuesdaysgone, best of luck to your aunt and uncle in their new life in SoCal. Personally, I think they’re smart to start over so far away. Things are going to be crazy in Butte county for years to come. cadoodlebug, are you standing on a box in that picture?!

We had DD's 21st birthday party. We put together a grazing table with cheese, crackers, meats, fruit and dips. We also served finger food such as party pies, sausage rolls, arancini balls, dumplings, cheese and spinach triangles, dim sims. Plus I made brownie bites and white choc & macadamia biscuits. I was worried that we would run out of food so of course I bought way more than was actually needed. This is the grazing table:

leannec .....I hope you're feeling MUCH better before you have to go back to work on Monday!! I wanted to mention something to you regarding the whole ROMAINE LETTUCE recall . Whenever that thread first appeared here (several days ago), I remember you had posted that you and your fam were having CEASAR salads, and since it traditionally is made with Romaine, I started to post to tell you NOT to use it. BUT.....then I thought "oh wait, leanne lives in Canada....this outbreak is just in the U.S"...... Nope! It DOES include Canada, which I only just now learned from a new link posted from the CDC. I wonder if the SALAD made you sick? Are your DH and dds sick, also? I hope not. lucyg and scrapmaven .....On yesterday's thread, thanks for posting your Chinese chicken salad recipes. They both look SO yummy, I saved them both! I've never made ANYthing at all like that, so I'm intrigued! cadoodlebug ....Awww!!! Happy 34th to you and Mister "Doodlebug" !!! That pik is so cute! tuesdaysgone ....I sent a lil' prayer up for your aunt and uncle . Sooo sorry they lost SO much, but so happy they and their precious kitty cat are okay! christine58 ....Sooo happy your dear Dad got to go HOME! sueg .....Wow, I would LOVE to see Oskar Schindler's factory and/or ANYthing related to him; what a wonderful, compassionate man he was !!! DH and most of his siblings have visited many concentration camps, and one of his dear sisters has a very hard time talking about how she felt while there and STILL feels A few years ago, she was explaining to our 15-year-old nephew what it was like to visit, and he was just stunned by everything she said, especially because she was almost in tears. One of my Mom's dearest friends witnessed her father being taken from their home by the Nazis (she was very young at the time, and she and her Mother were able to escape). She wrote a very haunting, descriptive essay about seeing her father being taken away to a concentration camp The first time I visited the Holocaust Museum in Washington, DC, I was overwhelmed with sadness and cried a lot while thinking of / praying about them.
Onto a MUCH lighter topic ..... I just LOVE Fall soooo much, and I was thrilled and happy for another beautiful Fall day and had LOTS of laughs with DH and our doggies this morning. Since we just watched "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles" on Thursday, we are quoting it NON-STOP! Later, DH went outside to do vehicle maintenance while I scrubbed our bathrooms, kitchen, and did laundry. I took breaks in between to sit outside in the beauuutiful sunshine and crisp leaves, sip coffee and catch up here. And when I say SCRUB--- I mean SERIOUS cleaning, which is not only a great feeling to have everything so clean, but it also helps allll my BAD joint pain to keep moving!!! The day before, I got a littttle overzealous in my mopping, and ended up in SEVERE pain. Sometimes our sweet Sophie pees in the house, so I mop pretty often! I have GOT to start going to physical therapy again to find out a happy balance!!! (( hugs )) to anyone who needs one!
