If it's just me: Lick the frosting off first. Eat the top half. Then finish the bottom half.

In a public setting: Eat like a civilized human being with a fork on a plate. And wish I was licking frosting first.

I eat them in all of the above ways! It depends on who makes the cupcake. If it's a small, homemade one from a student I'll take off the wrapper and bite into it. If it's one of the nasty store bought ones from a student, I'll take the icing off and just eat the cake part. Sometimes, it's just with a fork if I'm lucky enough to be at my desk during lunch. However, if it's a homemade red velvet cupcake from my assistant...oh boy...lick the delicious cream cheese frosting from around the edges and savor the cake on that sucker with the icing from the middle.

Depends on the type of frosting and how sweet it is and also the quality of the cupcake.

If it's really well done frosting, I lick it off first. If the cake is good but the frosting is so-so, I concentrate on the cake after scraping off the frosting.

I realize this officially makes me an old fogey but I really don't like cupcakes precisely because they are so hard to eat. That cupcake sandwich thing is a pretty good idea though!
