I put 1100 multicolored lights on my 7 ft Christmas tree. It is bright and wonderful. I am quite tempted to buy 100 candy canes in a variety of colors and hang them on the tree with two boxes of silver tinsel and just call it done.
There's been a lot of tension with my mom this year but I'm sucking it up and hosting Christmas anyway. I admit the idea of my mom's inevitable reaction to my Christmas tree is sending me into fits of giggles. I'm dying to do it just to hear what gossip she spreads about my crazy Christmas tree.
So what is the craziest Christmas tree you've ever seen? Give me some other ideas!

I’d see your candy canes and raise you 500 rainbow colored glass balls. Put them all on the tree in ROYGBIV order from top to bottom! LIKE THIS!

Ours is obnoxious. The colors continuously cascade in different patterns. My kids say it's too extra for whoville but they secretly love it! I don't believe you can ever have too many lights on a Christmas tree, let's see it!

My two crazy Christmas trees were 1) when my sister and I were kids we built a "tree" out of tumbleweeds (they stick together very well! ) That we decorated with mini ornaments. 2) Was when the ex and were coming out of a bout of unemployment and severely broke. Our fake tree (bought 2 years before when he was working) was decked out in a zigzag paper chain made from folded gum wrappers salvaged from the trash cans at his new job, and the shells of blown eggs (remove small chips from each end of a raw egg, stick a tooth pick in to stir so the membranes break, then blow the egg out) I used a little elmers glue, glitter and ribbon to decorate and hang them. eta: I'd then scramble the eggs for our meals so they served two purposes.. cheap meals and tree ornaments. Sounds like your mom would have a super-cow fit over a tree decorated in egg shells and trashed gum wrappers.

See, you are like me. If someone is going to piss me off, I'm going to go big, so they really do it! Truth is, I had the idea to decorate the tree that way....then, I thought about my mom's reaction. She has a little bit of a hard time with the fact that I march to the beat of my own drummer. At this point, I think it's a bit humorous.

I've had loads of non traditional trees over the years.
A giant poinsettia A washi tape tree Strings of lights attached to the wall with command hooks No tree at all
Last year we had to cut down our plum tree. Dh made a base for it to stand on. We loved it so much it is still standing in our living room. I took the ornaments off except for a bunch of small, white, wooden stars. I will be decorating it again this year and who knows how many more years.
We have a fake tree, but I find its a pain in the ass to haul out of the attic and set up. I think I will have the boys haul it down to donate this year.

jeremysgirl, I like your idea! I've seen some mighty pretty candy canes -- although that might be a tad spendy . . .
It's your tree, not your mom's. Please yourself!

I like your idea! I mean if you can't have fun with a Christmas tree, then what?!
I have opted to do a little less on the tree this year. Not putting out all the ornaments, even tho I like how we have them from travels, etc. I may just put them in a vase of some sort.
I like themed/different trees. I say do what you want!

Your tree sounds amazing! I LOVE the white tree with rainbow order bulbs. The colors just pop and now I want one! The craziest we ever did was in High School my sister and I talked my Dad into getting a pink flocked tree from the lot. It was THE BEST!!! He was a single Dad and used to this kind of thing. So once we got it home and decorated, he embraced it and loved it as much as us. He still talks about that crazy pink tree we made him take home.

I put everyone's stockings on the tree. I don't know if it's so much crazy as lazy. I did put small ornaments on the white tabletop tree.

This came up in a google search! I didn't think there could be anything scarier than clowns.
When I was in high school, my friends grandparents had a barbed wire tree with western themed ornaments. It was actually cool looking. Like this but on a much larger scale.
