ah shoot. My brother in law and nephew are there. Off to check facebook.
eta: bil posted this (he lives in Chugiak but works in Anchorage-nephew lives and works in Anchorage, I believe).
Felt like a freight train. but it didn’t build up. The intensity was on high immediately, and didn’t diminish until it was over. Some damage. Stuff everywhere. We’re okay. We’re lucky. Anchorage services appear to be down. Magnitude 6.6. 19 miles deep. Pretty close distance wise. This was a scary one.
He also said power is out in Chugiak.

Sending good thoughts to everyone in the area.
Question - doesn't an earthquake in Alaska mean that the Pacific Northwest needs to be on tidal wave alert?

There was a tsnunami warning but it has been dropped. It wss for the Canuk (spelling) inlet channel area. And from the last news I saw it was upgraded to a 7.2 and changed to 25 to 30 miled deep.

My DH’s company owns a hotel in Anchorage and is still waiting for the damage report. Looks to be significant. He was just there last month.

With the weather that Alaska has will it take a long time to make repairs?
I was listening to Dr. Lucy Jones from Cal Tech and she said quicksand is a concern at this time.

Question - doesn't an earthquake in Alaska mean that the Pacific Northwest needs to be on tidal wave alert? Tunami warning was cancelled. Earlier they were showing damaged roads. Big cracks. Major infrastructure damages. Outside of Anchorage, not like they can just drive down the next street, as is the case in many other rural type areas.
