Reading 20th Century Ghost by Joe Hill. It’s a compilation of short stories. All I can handle right now.
Oddly enough, I read it before. I don’t remember reading it. Thank you, Fibro. This could be a $ saving measure.
After finals are over, I plan to read Michelle Obama’s book, Becoming. Her interview on Oprah’s Super Soul Sunday was enjoyable.

I finished one book this week, Not Her Daughter. I thought this was very good although I have no grid for the ending. I know it happens; it's just so hard to imagine. 4/5 stars.

I finished two:
The Last Time I Lied by Riley Sager. I think it was recommended by several Peas. I really liked this book a lot. Went back and forth between an event 15 years ago and the present. Takes place at a summer camp for girls. 4.5/5 stars.
Then I read a quick fluff book: An Andy Carpenter mystery by David Rosenfelt called Deck the Hounds. Fun read because it is humorous but a legal thriller and you never know how everything will fit together until the last page.
Now I am reading Then She Was Gone by Lisa Jewell which I believe was recommended here. I am really enjoying it so far.

Hey Readers!
I'm almost done with Marcus Zusak's newest title, Bridge of Clay. It's not another The Book Thief, but it's good, and it reminds me of Hanya Yanagihara's A Little Life.
I recently finished Leif Enger's newest book Virgil Wander. I enjoyed this one; it reminded me of My Name is Lucy Barton by Elizabeth Strout.
I'm not sure what's up next; so many titles mentioned on these threads are on my TBR list, it's tough to choose!
Happy Reading!

I had jury duty last week, so I had plenty of time to read.
I read Jane Smiley's Some Luck. The novel follows an Iowa farming family and each chapter is a new year, beginning in 1920 and going thru the 1950s. It's satisfying to see characters grow and change in such an incremental way. It's a homey read.

The Extraordinary Life of Sam Hell by Robert Dugoni. 4/5 stars
I really enjoyed this story of a boy born with red eyes (ocular albinism). A story of family, friends and relationships, the trials and tribulations of life (and really lots of other themes). I was invested in Sam's life from near the beginning and wanted to see how he ended up. It wasn't a perfect book - some things bugged me - but it's worth a look.

good morning! I read two, TWO books this weekend! Winter Street & Winter Stroll by Elin Hilderbrand They were both short, about 250 pages each and nice, easy, Christmas-y reads. I started the third one (there's 4 total) and I'm already 50% through it. I also downloaded One Day in December by Josie Silver, which is the new Reese Witherspoon Book Club book.

I read The Woman in the Window by A.J. Finn. I was surprised to see it on Amazon's top 10 for the year, but I did really like it. Just not top 10 like. I'd give it a 4.5/5. It lost a few points for how many times the protagonist (and this is definitely NOT a spoiler) "sloshed" her wine. I mean that poor woman couldn't pour a glass without sloshing. We know she's an alcoholic from page 1, but come on! You don't need THAT many sloshes! Otherwise, the book kept me rapt. One of the bigger surprises in the book is pretty obvious after a couple chapters, but the final surprise, surprised me.

I’m usually just a lurker on these threads, but I read a quick one this week. What We Keep by Elizabeth Berg. I chose it off my bookshelf purely based on the size of the book, it’s small. It fit nicely into my backpack while on vacation. A nice story about someone remembering a childhood Summer that changed her life and drove her away from her mother. Sounds depressing, but it wasn’t.

I finished NINE PERFECT STRANGERS by Liane Moriarty. It was...different, in many ways. I've read all her books, and really enjoyed them, and this one was different from her usual. It kept me reading, and there were a few things I didn't figure out. I'd give it 3.5/5, but it is not my favorite of her books.
I'm currently reading SHE WAS THE QUIET ONE by Michele Campbell. I'm almost done, and I like it.

I'm finishing up the last 50 pages of Cowboy Seal Redemption by Nicole Helm. The stupid title gives no justice to this book; as silly as the title sounds the book is sooo good. Really well written with good character development. This is book two in a series and I now want to go back and read book 1 before I get to book 3 (which I have).
I'm also reading "How Long Until Black Future Month" by NK Jemisin. It's a short story collection (not my usual fare) but I love her and I would read anything written by her.

I finished EDUCATED by Tara Westover - the autobiographical book that reads like a fiction novel. I thought it was fantastic. The further along you get the more and more it picks up but I thought it was great from the beginning. She is raised in a strictly Mormon household where mental health and abuse take over and it’s her story of how she manages to move forward and balance her family beliefs with what she learns on the outside. Obviously this is her perspective only but I was enthralled.
Now I’m reading THE STORYTELLER’S SECRET by Sejal Badani. My mom recommended it and it was highly rated so I’m trying it and it is not disappointing. The story is beautifully written. It’s about an Indian woman born in the US who is having difficulty in her relationships at home so she travels to India to lean about her motner’s family, of which she knows nothing because she is not close with her mother and her mother won’t share. I’m thoroughly enjoying it.

I finished The Dream Daughter. Although I thought it dragged a little at times, I really enjoyed the story. 4 stars.
I'm currently reading Only Child by Rhiannon Navin. It is the story of a school shooting told from the perspective of a 6 year old boy who survived. The audible narrator is fantastic. I've laughed and cried.

I finished Then She Was Gone by Lisa Jewell and thought it was a great book. It is about a woman whose daughter disappeared when she was 15. She is trying to move on after she and her husband divorced and then her daughter's body is found. She meets a man who appears to be "all that". A good read with interesting twists and turns.

Finished... Dear Mrs. Bird by AJ Pearce - Set during WWII in London. But it didn't have a lot of the common, heavier WWII themes. I'd call it a quaint book. The Garden of Small Beginnings by Abbi Waxman - It was a quick read. It wasn't especially good, but it was good enough that I at least finished it . Started... The Mars Room by Rachel Kushner - I saw it recommended here, so I'm giving it a shot...

I just read all four of the "Winter" books. None were long, so just read them all together as one big book. I enjoyed them very much, they were a nice start to my annual Christmas reading season! Fluffy, but very enjoyable fluff. I also read Michelle Obama's book,"Becoming." It was awesome - interesting and well written. One of my favorites of 2018.

This week I read two books.
First up is a novel called Innocent Traitor by Allison Weir. Alison Weir is best known for her outstanding non-fiction books about British Kings and Queens. I love history and this area of history is something my education is lacking. I've read a few of Philippa Gregory's novels but when I discovered Alison Weir had also written a few novels about this subject I decided to give her novels a try. This is one of them. This novel is about Lady Jane Grey-a great niece of Henry the VIII. After Henry VIII dies his son Edward is placed on the throne. But Edward is sickly and young. The powers that rule (Edward is too young so he has a council that really pull the strings) don't want Mary (who is next in line) to inherit the throne because she is Catholic. When Edward dies they manipulate and somehow push Lady Jane Grey who doesn't want the throne into forcing her to take it at the age of 16 in order to keep the next ruler Protestant. Poor Lady Jane. She has had such a miserable life. A truly cruel mother who has hated her from birth because she wasn't the son she wanted. A fiercely intelligent and highly educated young woman this story is told thorough various voices of the people involved. I loved this book. I gave it 5 stars on Goodreads and was very sad when I finished reading it because it was over. Now I'm on the hunt for as many of this author's novels as I can find after which I want to read her non-fiction books.
Next I read Rust & Stardust by T. Greenwood. This novel is based on the true kidnapping of an 11 year old girl in 1948. In order to get into a girls club she steals a notebook in the local Woolworth's and a man watches her-he's just out of prison but she doesn't know that. Accosting her outside the store he tells her he's an FBI agent and will arrest her unless she does exactly what he says. This book follows her life as snatches her and abuses her physically and mentally while her mother, her brother-in-law, the police, and eventually the true FBI search for her. I liked this book although it was a gut wrenching read. I wanted to scream at the people she met while on the run to help her-couldn't they see what was going on? I gave it 4 stars on Goodreads.

I’m so glad you’re enjoying Alison Weir. She such a good writer. Speaking of good writers, have you read Sharon Kay Penman? She’s historical fiction with an emphasis on history, and a brilliant writer. I always recommend starting with Here Be Dragons, probably because that was my first if hers.

I've read the first 2 sections of Michelle Obama's Becoming. OMG, it is SO good. I've cried at a couple of points. She is amazing. I'm excited to finish, and have really loved reading her story. It's an outstanding memoir.

I just finished "Still Me" by Jojo Moyes as an audiobook and loved it! I also re-read "Beartown" by Fredrick Backman to refresh my memory for book club and loved it even more than the first time I read it. His writing is so beautiful.
