Watching the ceremony and feeling very patriotic.
Is anyone planning to go to the White House?
May he rest in peace.

I'm not near a TV today so haven't seen any coverage. I consider myself primarily a Democrat and I have always admired President Bush. I thought he was a great president and a wonderful human being.

We are on the west coast so no we won’t. But we are watching/recording a lot of the coverage.

No, but I know some people who will be watching his funeral train pass as it transports his body from the ceremony in Houston to the burial in College Station. The railroad tracks run right next to the neighborhood we're moving to and some of our friends and family members from out that way are joining the groups of people who are going to watch and pay respects.

I watched Special Air Mission 41 take off this morning (you have to click to see full size then squint to see the plane): Wednesday is a national day of mourning and federal offices are closing (most if not all). The civil servants at work got notified that they will be off. Contractors have yet to hear if we work or not (it has to all work through the contracting office). I'll be watching on TV if so and on computer if not. My regular Wednesday agency telecon hasn't been cancelled YET, but I saw a flurry of meeting cancellations everywhere else. I'm going to try to head to Ellington to see the return. Or I can sit in my cousin's yard (who lives at the opposite end of Ellington's runways as my work is) and watch them land and watch the procession to the church. I would love to be able to go see the train, but it's a work day AND on the opposite side of town AND I'm sure security is crazy-tight at the yard. I could take a mental health day though and drive to one of the spots along the route to College Station (I know that route like the back of my hand from driving there for several years for school).

There will be a public viewing at our church here in Houston on Wed. night. It will be from 6:45 pm until 6:00 am on Thursday. I've considered going, but don't think I want to deal with the crowds. Those going have to meet at another church a couple of miles away, go through security, then stand in line to board a bus to the viewing, then stand in line for the viewing. So doubtful I will go. Instead I'll watch Wednesday's service. I could take a mental health day though and drive to one of the spots along the route to College Station (I know that route like the back of my hand from driving there for several years for school). Let me know if you decide to do this and want company on the ride.

DH and I are discussing about going tonight. We’ve “met several presidents, but 41 is the only one who’s hand I’ve shaken. Military memebers and their heir families are often part of a rent-a-crowd when a president flies into a base. They don’t usually do much more than wave to the crowd, but GHWB shook hands with the crowd way back in the early 90s.

I watched from the time the casket arrived at the Capitol and until Mike Pence spoke. I'm not a Pence fan but his speech was beautiful as were the others. I just caught snippets of #45 and Melania at the Capitol. Anyway...

I watched all the coverage today. If I were anywhere near Washington, College Station or Houston then I would go. DS is supposed to be on campus at A&M on Thursday but he isn't sure if things will be canceled yet or not. He really wants to be down there to see the train though.

I’m the Midwest, so I won’t be paying my respects in person.
I find myself fascinated by the “pageantry” of the process. I’m not sure that’s exactly the right word. But for instance, watching his casket being carried up the Capitol steps by the Armed Forces members with that precise march, while Hail to the Chief is played. I get choked up! And watching his flag-draped casket lie in state, and all the other events that will occur in the next days. All the historic significance gets to me, I guess. I plan to be home on Wednesday to hang out with the TV.

I would go if I wasn’t in Iowa. If I was closer to Texas, I would try to catch a view of his train. I think this is a great way for him to travel to his burial site.
I remember when Reagan died, my son was about 4/5 and he was just mesmerized by the news coverage of it all. He sat in front of the tv and watched all the coverage we had on.
