My dd (20) needs a new cell phone. An iPhone is out of the budget. My husband is against a referbished iPhone and asked me to look and see if there were any cheaper phones comparable to the iPhone.

I still love my Samsung Galaxy S3. I bought it refurbished via Ting.com, and it's STILL working!!! Samsung has some different features and the ONLY reason I'd really want to have an iPhone is to Facetime with my family......... Check out Ting.com for a decent refurbished phone--anything above the S3(Galaxy) or iPhone would be good enough.
BTW, one feature that Samsung has (that Apple doesn't) is the swipe feature. You just swipe with your finger to spell words. Makes it MUCH faster for me. DH just got me an iPad 3 series, and I have to get used to everything on it.

There are some less expensive pay as you go type smart phone. My Mom has a pay as you go-monthly smart phone and she can access internet, text, calls, etc... if she so chooses to, (but she still struggles with the knowing how part...despite the fact that we've shown her how to many times). She still can't figure out how to text right either. A non-apple product would not be able to synch to your other apple products, icloud, iphones, etc... So if she needs to use icloud, another brand would not work in this situation.

They have plans that you could pre-set, and you could watch it every day to check the usage and cost. My bill is under $20 every month. I try not to go online unless it's an emergency, but I do use data, phone, text, etc. a lot and the price is great. Let me know if you want to try going that route and I could give you a code for it.

We had Ting for a year and we were happy with the service. Right now we have Cricket and pay a flat rate of $100 tax included for 4 lines.

Great price--is that unlimited?? Some months (usually when 1 of us has a hospital stay), I wish I had an unlimited plan.

My S3 won't download new apps or update some of my old ones. It also won't go to a lot of different websites. I would get a newer version bc it seems the operating system is becoming very outdated.

Mine does. Not that I go surfing the web, but I can download apps. I recently downloaded Waze and a few others without a problem. The S3 is perfect for texting, talking and EMERGENCY internet only, because it is slow and very old. Right now it's not 'broken' for me, so it's still good enough!

I was just offering my opinion. I am not switching, I love my iphone. Thank you anyways for the offering the code. That is very kind of you. Perhaps someone else can use it.

If you purchased "refurbished" from Apple - I believe they guarantee the product. If anything was going to go wrong, it has, and has been fixed by Apple. I've bought a lot of Apple products refurbished!

Is there a specific reason he is against a refurbished iPhone? Is it the refurbished part, or the Apple part of the equation? They do come with a standard 1 year limited warranty and are eligible for Apple Care if you want that as well.
