Happy December everyone!
I wish I had great bargains to report. Sadly, most are just decent bargains. My hours at work have almost doubled recently so it leaves very little time to bargain hunt. The ladies at Salvation Army are probably wondering what happened to me.
This year is the first year I didn't go out Black Friday shopping in probably 35 years. I've been out shopping two days after a surgery and another time at eight months pregnant. It felt so weird. I did do some online shopping but it just didn't give me the same thrill.
The trend at auction houses around here has been to have only new items for gift giving until after Christmas. So many people attend, that normally don't go to the auction, that prices get over inflated.
How is everyone doing? What have you been up to?

I stopped by Salvation Army today after work. I brought two boxes to donate and then I forgot to take them out of the car.
I picked up a tissue paper flower kit for .99 cents. The tissue is precut with the scallops so all you have to do is assemble them. The kids can make them with friends.
For myself, a Thirty One large utility tote insert that has the mesh pockets. Nice deal for $1.99
The store was pretty busy for a Monday.
Have you done any thrifting lately?

The shops here are getting to clearance rack prices. So unless I can get a half price deal, I barely look.
Something I find downright dirty... the goodwill has half price off certain color tags. I have watch employees pull clothing with those tags and take them to the back. I pulled clothes out of those carts and had the clerk tell me to put them back in the cart.

I don't usually shop at thrift stores, mostly because it's hard to find clothes in plus-size and I don't really need anything for my home. But my husband loves to thrift shop for his clothes, and he needed a whole mess of things after we did a closet clean-out this fall of some of his frayed and old stuff. So I've been dragged to just about every thrift store in a 25 mile radius in the past month!
My husband has found some really nice clothes. The best have been an LL Bean flannel shirt and a really thick LL Bean Fleece pullover. He's a jacket addict. I guess the nicest things I've found have been a J Jill blouse, a Coldwater Creek fleece pullover, and a Christopher & Banks black cardigan. We're running out of clothes hangers for our closet! And thrift shopping in the wealthier adjoining city definitely makes a difference.
Haven't found anything great for my home yet, but we'll see!

I found this exact sweater in brand-new condition, mixed in with the "ugly" Christmas sweaters at Goodwill for $9.95! I was walking by and it stood out from all the cheap acrylics. It's a little too big, but I can layer. www.norskwear.com/product-page/cog

Happy December everyone! I wish I had great bargains to report. Sadly, most are just decent bargains. Sorry you aren't finding great bargains. For the most part, great bargains are very few and far between here. The thrift stores have really been raising their prices now that thrift store shopping is so popular. My favorite store has really gone up in the past year and now they have raised the prices on most needlepoint/cross stitch kits to $10-$15! I've done a price search on them and have found several for sale cheaper on eBay/Amazon. Sad thing is that the kits just sit and sit, then customers rip into them and destroy them. So sad to see what someone donated being destroyed that way with no money for the charity. chendra - cute sweater and a fantastic price! I'm guessing whoever stocked the racks didn't think it was cute and deemed it an "ugly" sweater. You have a great eye to find it mixed in with the "ugly" ones. Since the week after Thanksgiving, I've hit the thrift stores several times. One trip was in search of a big, shiny brooch to use as the star on the quilted Christmas tree wallhanging I'm making for DD. Found the perfect one at the third thrift store, and for just $20. That was all that I bought on that trip. Cyber Monday was my biggest haul, and it was all 10% off when I got to the register. Bought 12 quilt and quilt block kits at $5/each, 1 counted cross stitch kit, 5 skeins of MadelineTosh merino wool yarn, 1 Bucilla kit, a Cranston pre-printed Christmas panel, and an older handpainted needlepoint canvas. It's for a Noah's Ark hand puppet and finger puppets of animals! Have never seen one before like this. Of that haul, my favorite are the 8 quilt block kits I bought. They were from a block of the month quilt and are for a Laurel Burch inspired quilt. I thought they were high at $5/each, but each has the pattern and all the batik fabrics needed. Unfortunately, there were 2 blocks missing which is why I have gone back to that thrift another times in hopes that they would put them out. The quilt can still be made, just with some shifting and/or improvisation. I really don't need another quilt project, so may end up selling this or giving to a friend in the new year. On the other second trips I scored 3 more Cranston preprinted panels (nativity and doll dresses), a hunter/camo glass ornament, a new Lumi photo printing kit, a cross stitch stocking kit, and a foundation paper piecing quilt pattern for the 12 Days of Christmas. Knocked off some gifts with that trip! No luck on the quilt blocks though. Yesterday I stopped by again. Picked up 3 new packages of Caspari napkins at 50¢ each, a Caspari gift bag for 25¢ and a package of Caspari gift enclosures for 25¢. I really like the quality of the Caspari brand but they are pricey so I always keep an eye out for it at the thrift stores. Also bought a Father Christmas needlepoint canvas (small) and a 3 yd. length of a Moda quilting cotton which is very bright and summery. It would make a nice quilt back. Still no missing quilt block kits. I'm going to have to accept defeat and move on.

I got several amazing records last week for 49 cents each. All are LP and in a hardback form, with the canvasy thick cover of an old hardbound book Winnie the Pooh narrated by Jimmy Stewart, copyright 1927, so well before Disney bought it so the art is more reminiscent of the EH Shepherd drawings, Walt Disney Pinocchio read by Cliff Edwards who was the voice of Jiminy Cricket. Disney’s 3 Orphan Kittens, the only one not a book, but I love the art on the cover. Disney’s 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea which oddly has a photo from the movie on the cover but inside the art is very reminiscent of Tin Tin cartoons, it is really cool. Disney’s Goliath narrated by Sterling Holloway Disney’s Wizard of OZ Disney’s Robin Hood, but live action version, Robin Hood was hot, ladies!
I am really excited, not all the bindings are in great condition, but the pages inside are perfect. I need to find a way to repair the binding. They are for me only, so I am not worried about preserving their historical accuracy, I just want the books to stay together. Obviously my standard classroom way of repairing books with packing tape isn’t going to work. Anyone have any suggestions?

They pull the some color of the week off the rack, so they sell less product at 50%.

There’s a fantastic thrift store in H-Burg that we went to when I visited last summer. I can’t remember the name (Gift & Thrift, maybe?), but could have spent the whole day there.

After Tuesday they pull all of that color off the racks, put them in a cart, bring it to the back and ship the merchandise to the outlet where they sell it by the pound. They get so many donations here that they have to clear out old merchandise to make room for new stuff.

I've only recently started buying vintage Pyrex (late to the trend game as always--it was Mrs. Maisel that sparked it) so I'm only just learning about the value of some pieces. I found this bowl at a flea market for $10 then checked out eBay when I got it home. I was shocked. Attachments:

In my dog group we are always looking for our breed items. Someone posted a snowglobe with a white dog that resembles a Samoyed. I texted a few members of my family to keep an eye out for it if they could. They are no where to be found in my area as they usually get swooped up and put on ebay. My sister found one for me at the Home Goods near her job!! I'm pretty excited as I never catch them in my area. They are already going for double the cost on ebay
