ETA: Scroll down thread for retraction! ——————— I just became a Drama Llama by dint of 5000 posts in This Here Joint of Ours. But here’s the thing: I wasn’t posting. I got the pop-up when I edited a post! Anticlimactic, yet unsurprising. I’m a compulsive edit-er. (“Editor” seems wrong, but maybe I’ll edit that later. LOL.) I cannot let a noticed error remain; nor can I resist tinkering for clarity. It’s like picking a scab. Conclusion: Maybe there are other members like me who have a post count higher than actual posts. (Paging lesserknownpea ; she ‘fessed up to pathological editing in the alter “tell” thread.) Inveterate edit-ers unite!

Ha ha! I'll go back and edit if there is a glaring typo or if something is unclear.

Me too! 😛 Actually I am amazed that I’m something like 5th highest poster!! I did wonder if it was accurate and although editing would only probably account for a fairly small percentage it makes me feel a little better 😉

I will admit it. I'm one who just has to edit if I see a mistake later. I'm sure it's a carryover from my working days. My edits tend to be for misspelled word, wrong phrase or excessive use of a word. Occasionally there is an edit for a misplaced emoji. Heck, there are posts by others that if I could, I'd be editing the heck out of them too!

Ah, that’s interesting! I had no idea. Okay, chagrin time. I’ve edited my OP. More than once. Because of course. My post count is still 5001. But my count rolled over to 5000 and I got the hoopla notification box when I hit “Save Changes” on an edit. Confuddling. Perhaps dependent on time lapse before editing? Dunno. But I stand by my obsession.

I’m just beginning, so I only have 7 posts, and I edited one last night. But it doesn’t show up as a separate post in the list of all my posts. They do add up to 7. I’m going to post this, then come back and edit, to see if I bumped my post count from 8 to 9 by editing. Watch and see if I can achieve a 12.5% increase in my post count with one move! 😂

I just gave editing a couple of my previous posts a shot (and hitting save changes), but it did not change my post count.

I accidentally quoted myself instead of editing...and it did bump my post count up. Then I deleted that quoted post. Still says 9. But now 10. MWAHAHA

I'm compulsive about editing. I didn't grow up that way, but once I went to law school and learned that a misplaced comma can change the entire meaning of a document, I became compulsive.
I have to admit, I'd be disappointed if my 5,000th post was an edit.

I edit. I also type out long posts and then decide to erase the whole thing. I try to be a positive poster. If only I could learn to edit and not say what I want to say (be negative) in real life!

I am also an "edit-er" and have to fix stuff if I notice it after I post. I understand!

Don’t even talk to me about editing posts. FFS, I spend more time editing than I do posting in the first place.
And most of the time it’s ridiculous fixes to begin with.
And yes, I realize my grammar is off in that sentence. I am going to ignore it. I AM.
ETA ignoring. Ignoring. IGNORING.
ETA #2 still IGNORING.
ETA #3 STILL IGNORING!!

My name is bc2ca and I am an edit-er. Sometimes I type, get interrupted by a puppy wanting in/out (DH phoning, family member needing me to find something under their nose, laundry beeping, oven timer, etc.), rewrite half the post, don't fully reread my final post for coherency and/or grammatical errors, hit create and then see the error(s). There is nothing more shameful than having someone quote an error riddled post before you can correct it.

I don’t post much but will go back if I notice a spelling mistake. I’m sure there are a lot of words that get past me though!

ah....that explains it. On the 'other' side of the board (general scrapbooking), I'm constantly editing...I edit my monthly points thread all month long, I post an image and edit to re-size....

I edit. I also type out long posts and then decide to erase the whole thing. I try to be a positive poster. If only I could learn to edit and not say what I want to say (be negative) in real life! I type out and erase 3 times as many posts than what I actually get posted. Then I spend an inordinate amount of time editing the posts I finally DO get posted. Hence, I have a very low post count in relationship to the how long I've been a board member. As they say, looks can be deceiving. I'm actually a really, really long time Pea/RefuPea. I just seem to get in my own way when it comes to posting and being an active member of the board.

I accidentally quoted myself instead of editing...and it did bump my post count up. Then I deleted that quoted post. Still says 9. But now 10. MWAHAHA I've seen a message something along the lines of "Thread count will be reset" every now and then. I wonder if that happens if you delete a thread? I'm going to try it now by posting second comment below......

I was at 9814. I posted another comment that made it 9815. Then I deleted that comment and shut the site down. Let's see what this post takes me to.....
ETA: Hmmmm, 9816. I wonder if it changes if I log out then log back in? Let me try that.....
ETA2: OK, still 9816. Strange. I wish I could remember what forces that particular message about the count being reset.

Oh, and I'm a chronic over-editer too. It really is like a compulsion. Sometimes I wish I had the freedom to see a mistake and just..... let it go. But then I think "What is wrong with those people?!?!"
