By NO means am I justifying the teachers behavior but you have to wonder what lead up to her doing this. I mean, people who are rational and balanced and feel cared about on the job tend to not flip out and do crazy shit.

Hoooooly cow! I followed through a few links relating to the story. She’s been reprimanded before, but they don’t say why. And she flipped out in class a week before all of this over a lost test.

Looks like this is not the first time she did crazy stuff like this. So why was she left alone in a class full of kids. If my kid were in that class, I would be saying, “I don’t give a flying f for the reasons leadig up to this. I wanna see her in jail and I will scream foul till I find out where the school management effed up”

She needs to never be in a classroom again. When she went for another kid with the scissors out, I almost had to stop watching.
She needs to be in a hospital and be treated.

That sounds like really crazy behavior and I don't like using the word "crazy" when it comes to things like this. I'm thinking a brain tumor or have I been binge watching too much Grey's Anatomy?
Since she flipped out a week before over a test and the husband said this is totally out of character for her I'm thinking it's maybe a mental illness issue or a brain tumor. I wonder how long she's been teaching? If she's had a long teaching career without these sort of issues before (except for these two) I hope that along with her arrest she gets a full medical workup.
I feel so very sorry for the students. They are young to have witnessed and have been victim to this kind of behavior and they must have been terrified.
I'm glad her firing was quick and if her medical is clear I hope she has the book thrown at her.

How horrible. I can’t imagine how those students felt; especially the poor kid whose hair she cut.

It sounds like she had some sort of breakdown. Who does that?

I'm glad that they didn't wait to fire her and that she's not allowed near the campus. However, if it was a medical issue then I hope that she gets the treatment she needs. Her poor students must have been just terrified.

I don't think people should be treating her like she is a criminal. She obviously has a medical problem - like a brain tumor - or she was having a mental breakdown. She needs help - like she would have needed if she had a heart attack and fallen out on the floor of the classroom. My heart hurts for her. Teaching is a very stressful job, and personal issues combined with that can drive a person over the edge.

Woah! I thought you were going to post something similar to a story here recently, where a male teacher was fired (and later re-instated) for cutting a student's hair on photo day, after the student had been told to get his hair cut but didn't. But this story is next level crazy! Yes I agree. She must have mental health issues. By NO means am I justifying the teachers behavior but you have to wonder what lead up to her doing this. I mean, people who are rational and balanced and feel cared about on the job tend to not flip out and do crazy shit. I am no doctor and I think she is crazy. I wanna see her in jail and I will scream foul till I find out where the school management effed up” It's not a case of "school management fucking up". She's clearly not in her right mind. I don't see how jail is going to help her. ETA: Oh, I think you mean they fucked up because they let her continue to teach after a previous incident. That makes sense. I still don't agree with jailing her though.

Bizarre. I didn't watch the video but sometimes people don't just crack up. She might be under the influence of drugs. I find that more probable than her having a brain tumor. She should not be allowed in teach again.

Wow! That's absolutely bizarre! Singing and calmly doing that was creepy. Those poor students! Something definitely isn't right with her.

I hope she's okay, and the kids take it as some funny story and not something that's upsetting and trust damaging.

I still don't agree with jailing her though. Couple of other articles I read said something else happened with her but school did not provide details. I think it was my knee jerk reaction to imagining her hand over own kid with a scissor that is making me not think rationally. I think jail time is because they charged her with a crime. I am guessing she will not serve any time in prison because she will probably is not sane. The whole singing national anthem trying to do what she did is just bizzarre

I saw this yesterday and felt sorry for all involved. I had a French teacher who acted very strangely, she got really angry one day. We found out months later that she had a brain tumour.

That's not ok. I hope all the kids are ok and the teacher gets the help that she is obviously in need of.

She doesn't need jail, she needs a hospital. She cut a piece of a teenager's hair - way insane - but nothing to go to jail about. I wonder why the administration kept her if there was something else that was crazy prior. And I cannot imagine this is her first breakdown, because it's a big one. I wonder about her family. But I feel very sorry for her. The kids were not little - if they were elementary, I could see how they'd be traumatized, but they are teenagers and probably think it's a great story.

Poor woman.
Poor kids.
Poor all people on the brink and stressed to the breaking point and those who live with them.

Holy cow, thank god it was just hair that got cut. Because that woman is very unhinged!
Those poor kids must have been so frightened, but I also feel badly for her because...wow. She has totally lost it. That has to be illness of some kind.

I feel so badly for her and for the kids.
My 5th grade teacher had a breakdown in class. She was a lovely nun, seemed perfectly normal and then started to behave strangely - she would get kind of catatonic and stare into space. And then one day she was sitting at her desk in one of those moments and she wet herself. It was awful. It was so awful that when you have a group of 10 year olds and they don't laugh at something like that? You know it's bad. We were scared to death.
I hope this woman gets the help she needs and I hope the kids, their families and the school district have compassion for her.

Clearly, a break with reality. I hope everyone gets the help they need in this sad situation.
Teaching is stressful in ways people who don't teach will never know. I can't imagine trying to hold it together while struggling with untreated mental illness.

So disturbing and upsetting.
It’s interesting that some of the responses here are somewhat sympathetic and attempting to understand what might have led to this incident. Past threads here about students acting out in class haven’t been quite as compassionate.
ETA:My post sounds bitchier than the actual intention behind it.

I cannot sympathize with the teacher much. As I said, imagining my kid in her class in that situation is making me see red.
