Use the spoiler feature and give us your comments! I'll go first! The character who broke my heart was Ellie. I kept thinking of all she missed in life and what a horrible situation she was in just because of that horrible woman. Haha, I have no idea how to use the spoiler feature! But I totally agree with what you said! I am going to try to figure out how to post a spoiler. My college daughters read the book after I did and they also liked it, but feel the same as you and I do. It's very easy! See the long row of icons at the top of this post? At the end of the row on the right is a picture of a emoticon with a finger over its mouth like it's shushing you. Click on that and type in your spoiler and click *Insert Spoiler*. Try it!

As far as the spoiler you put in, I absolutely agree!

I rarely *pea* on my phone so I have no clue what the differences are.

I listened to Nine Perfect Strangers. Well, I guess you can say that I was warned about this book. I’ve read all of Liane Moriarty’s books so I just couldn’t not read this, but I will not be recommending this one. As with all her books, I love the way she develops her characters and felt this was no exception-just the story, ugh, I’ll go with the most common descriptor-weird. I’m going to start One Day in December. It looks like my kind of book. I just finished Nine Perfect Strangers as well last week and should have listened to the reviews! Terrible book, the beginning had me intrigued but the book grew progressively worse as the story unraveled. I ordered this from my book of the month pick. Don't waste your time! Currently reading Free Food for Millionaires by Min Jin Lee, who is the author of Pachinko (loved this book). Wow, I really love the way she writes. I really connect with the characters. This book is about a young woman who is the daughter of Korean immigrants, has recently graduated Princeton and trying to navigate through life in Manhattan, yet conflicted about what her Korean parents want her to do vs. what she actually wants to do in life. I'm doing a terrible job explaining what this book is about. Just read it!

OK, so I need to cross Nine Perfect Strangers off my list. I haven't even read Big Little Lies yet and it's wayyyyy back there in my Kindle library and actually good by most reports. Life's too short for a not-good one unless it's one of my "will read anything s/he writes" authors.
Right now I am reading Then She Was Gone by Lisa Jewell. It's about a 50-something mom whose daughter was murdered years ago when the daughter was 15. It is apparently twisty and turny and the twist seems obvious to me at the moment, so if it is what I think it is, I will be very annoyed because it does seem so obvious. I dunno. So far it's probably better than the Michael Connolly I just finished that was about looking through boxes of old police paperwork with a little action worked in toward the end.

I've been making updates to my reading list as I've scrolled through, as usual. I have a friend who is reading The 7 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle. I'll be interested to see what she thinks, but I've deleted it from my list. Nine Perfect Strangers as well.
I have been in a rut and haven't ready anything since Sally Field's memoir. But book club met and chose the next book. Small Great Things by Jodi Picoult. I started it yesterday and now all I want to do is read. Stupid job and bills to pay. As much as I'm enjoying it, listening to the voice of a racist is super difficult. Still, I'm loving the story.

Slight hijack, a lot of the books I read, DH also read. Do you and your DH/SO often read the same books?

I read A Ladder to the Sky by John Boyne and I loved it! It took me a little bit to get into it because I was confused about what was happening, but once it started unfolding I was completely sucked in. 5/5!
The new novel from the beloved New York Times bestselling author of The Boy in the Striped Pajamas and The Heart's Invisible Furies , a seductive Highsmithian psychodrama following one brilliant, ruthless man who will stop at nothing in his pursuit of fame
Maurice Swift is handsome, charming, and hungry for success. The one thing he doesn't have is talent - but he's not about to let a detail like that stand in his way. After all, a would-be writer can find stories anywhere. They don't need to be his own...LinkNow I'm reading One Day in December and The Life We Bury.

I just finished Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel. I gave it 3 stars but it seems I'm the only person in the universe wasn't impressed. I'm usually sold if the premise has the word post-apocalyptic in it but not this time...

Do you and your DH/SO often read the same books? Dh is more into fantasy and science fiction. He also will go for nonfiction or one of the classics. I prefer historical fiction, contemporary fiction, or occasionally a memoir. We rarely read the same books. Sometimes our taste in movies will overlap though.

Interesting. DH doesn't generally like Sci-Fi at all. He likes thrillers, legal dramas and, like me, loves Harlan Coben, David Rosenfelt, Linwood Barclay, James Patterson, Greg Iles, etc.

No, he isn't a big reader, but has recently started reading Dean Koonz. He went to college in my husband's hometown, so my husband wanted to try some of his books. My college aged kids like a lot of the psychological thrillers, so we read a lot of the same books. My 19 yr. old college sophomore hated reading until reading one of my books at the beach over a year ago. Now she loves to read (but hardly has time with college and being on the university's dance team). My 21 yr. old college senior can read a book in a matter of hours. She is a fast reader!

I finished reading Then She Was Gone by Lisa Jewell. I give it 4.5/5 stars. I really liked reading this book and figured parts of it out but oh my, it broke my heart and I had to keep reminding myself that it is a novel. Now I'm reading 3 short stories by James Patterson collaborating with 3 other authors. Nothing to write home about. Lisa Jewell is a great writer! I love her books and the the one one audiobooks are read aloud with a British accent. I can’t wait to read her new book coming out soon. Currently I’m reading a book by Gregg Olsen called The Last Thing She Ever Did. So far so good. It set in Oregon along the Deschutes River and about a missing boy. It goes back and forth between characters so I’m not too sure how everything is related so far. Finished the book and it was really good! He’s a great writer and now I’m reading another by him.

I started The Husbands Secret and there are so many characters to keep up with. Is it worth reading? It bothers me when there are too many people to keep track of and how they relate to each other.

My sister used to keep a little notebook handy with books like this as she would write down all the characters names and who they were and how they were related.

I keep a note on my phone if I feel there’s too many characters to keep track of. Really helps. By the middle of the book, you barely check back. Also helps if there’s a tricky plot or a friend is reading the same book and we want to discuss afterwards.

I started it and it was overwhelming. I put it down. When I went to pick it back up a few months later, I saw I'd gone 82 pages. I was surprised I'd made it that far. And of course, I've forgotten everything. So many in my book club loved it so I will give it another go for sure. BUT WITH NOTES!!

I’ve tried at least three times to read this book but I can’t follow along with it because there are too many characters and I found it very slow.
