The printing place in town wanted 10 each to embroidery names on Christmas stockings! That seems a lot to me? What say the peas?
Does anyone have an embroidery machine? Can I ask what you paid for it?
How do you put names on your stockings

That seems about right to me. I paid $14 each to have some towels embroidered. There is a cost to the business for the font purchase, the set up, the stabilizer used under and over the embroidery, and the thread. Plus the person's time to do the embroidery.
If I were having several done at once, say 6+, I'd probably ask if they had a bulk discount and would do them all for $50.

I think $10 a name seems fair. I think that is what I paid for ours probably 15 yrs ago. Unless you have a ton to have names put on, buying your own machine wouldnt be worth the $. Save some time and just pay to have it done. Your other option would be to look on FB marketplace or local FB sell groups or on nextdoor and see if you can find a local mom / grandma looking to make a little extra cash who might do embroidery on the side.

10/stocking seems more than reasonable to me. I would jump on that ASAP if I wanted it.

I think I paid almost $20 to have my daughter's name embroidered on a stocking I made for her.

I have an embroidery machine but I don't run an embroidery business.
I have done stockings for a few friends and I charge $10 each, so I think that seems about right to me.
On one occasion, I had to "open up" the stocking, embroider the name and sew it back up. I charged $15 for that one. (Probably should have charged more! LOL)
If you live in a populated area, you could price it out on the local facebook swap … But as is with everything, be wary of anyone being super-cheap - you get what you pay for.
Best wishes!

$10 seems fair.
They have to take the time to program the script.
Land’s End charged at least $6 just for a monogram.

One more vote for it sounding reasonable.

$10 seems fair to me, and I think a bulk discount would only apply to having the same name or monogram embroidered on each item. Otherwise they have to set up each name separately. I just saw a post on my local NextDoor message board seeking someone to embroider a name on a stocking for $25. I was impressed. What about hand-embroidering the names? You could do it while watching TV or whatever.

$10 each is in the zone. I have a computerized embroidery machine that was $1000 years ago, you might be able to get one for less now but unless you plan to start doing a lot of embroidery it wouldn’t be worth the expense.
If you’ve done cross stitch, you could get some of the stiff Aida cloth that you can pull the threads out after you do the stitching so only the cross stitches remain on the project.
The last name I put on a stocking, I cut the name from felt in script and sewed it on by hand with seed beads. It took forever but it was gorgeous.

Very fair price. Maybe even on the low side in our area.

google round metal rimmed tag. You can buy them at Staples, Michaels, etc With our new stockings I attach one to each stocking with the name on it. I also use them on my scrapbook albums.

10 is definitely not on the high end, in my opinion. i used to pay 5 to get a name on a towel about 20 years ago.

I paid $9.50 this year through Pottery Barn to get stocking embroidered. So I’m with everyone else and think $10 seems right. I’ve never done embroidery, but I think there’s a lot of set-up time involved.

I have a ton of seed beads! Do you have a photo? No, sadly the stocking got horribly scorched and was totally ruined a couple years ago when DH left the gas fireplace thermostat on, the room got chilly and the fireplace turned itself on one night. Here’s how I did it though. I used my electronic cutting machine software to type out the name in a thick script font, welded the letters, mirrored it and used a pen tool to write the outline on sticker paper. (You could also just do it with Word or Photoshop Elements too, as long as you can mirror the design.) I stuck the sticker to the back of the felt I wanted to use and cut it out with a small scissors so the felt side was right reading. Using tiny dabs of glue, I stuck the felt cutout onto the front of the stocking to tack it in place where I wanted it. Then I hand sewed the felt name to the stocking, adding a line of beads down the center of the letters to the top of the felt as I went along. It took me FOR.EVER. but it was for my kid. My heart just dropped when I saw that it was ruined. You could probably do something similar with or without the felt by sewing on sequins and beads to spell out the name. That was how my aunt put the names on all of our stockings when we were little kids.
