When DH and I got married 22 years ago, we had a full (8 place settings) set of plain white dishes that we got a super cheap deal on at Best Buy, and a full set with a country pattern on it that I picked out for my wedding because they had sunflowers (and cows 🤪) on them.
About 5 years in, I decided I wanted square plates that came in several solid colors (similar to Fiestaware), and bought them in sunflower yellow, sage green and terracotta to stick with the sunflower/Tuscan theme. Then, sometime in the last couple of years, I fell in love with the teal/red floral pattern that Pioneer Woman came out with to go with the new color scheme I was gradually switching to. I didn’t get rid of the square ones, but have gotten to where we use less of the square ones because they are cumbersome.
I’m thinking that over the next couple of years, I will look into getting rid of the square ones and maybe replacing everything, or keeping the Pioneer sets and adding to what I have.

A few years ago I bought 8 settings of Fiesta to replace the Corelle we got for a wedding gift. We just celebrated 20 years. Dh insisted we keep the Corelle though so they're up in a top cabinet collect dust till he forgets about them and I dump them I've added random Fiesta pieces since, but have no intention of replacing them for quite some time.

I have never gotten rid of my original set of dishes (Corelle with a blue plaid/sunflower pattern) but we have added other, non matching dishes to it.

When I got married the first time 20 years ago, I bought a set of four dishes from Pier one. They were multi colored blue burgundy forest green and mustard. When we bought our second house, I redid our dining room around 2004 and bought a set of cream colored dishes from Younkers. I handed down the set from Pier one to my sister. About six years ago, I started collecting fiesta. I gave my cream colored dishes to a friend. I now have 14 place settings of fiesta.

Mine is a sappy Valentine's story. For DH's and my second Valentine's Day together, we were planning on getting a house. We decided that we wouldn't "do" Valentine's presents that year: we would buy each other something practical for the house. One of us got a spice rack and the other bought a cheap 6-setting dinner set: blue and white Willow pattern. We can't remember who bought which, but both items are still in daily use 23 years later. We added more of the same pattern so we now have 8 place settings, and we added 4 gorgeous BIG dishes for soups and stews. One of the side plates got broken and one has always had a crack in it (I use it to hold wooden spoons when I'm cooking) so we're down to 6 of those, but since we only have a 6-place dining table, it works. I still have a couple of random mismatching plates from before we met, but I have no other dinner set.

I checked never, but if you’re counting paper plates we change the design every time Costco gets a new pattern, LOL! We’ve had the same Corelle dishes since we got married almost 30 years ago. We had four plates with a lovely 1970’s rust stripe that were hand me downs from the in-laws before we got married, and they are still at the bottom of the stack. When we get down to the plates with the rust stripes, that means it’s *really* time to run the dishwasher! We still have the same ugly 1970’s avocado green leaf pattern Corelle that has been at the lake cabin since the in-laws bought it, probably in 1970. We’ve never had a set of “good” china.

I've been married for 35 years - I replaced my original stoneware dishes that I received at my wedding shower about 20 years ago with corelle. I replaced the corelle about 5 years ago. I'm honestly not crazy about what I have now, so I may replace again in the next couple years, not because I need to, I just want to!

When we got married 20 years ago, we registered for & received 12 place settings of a Pfaltzgraff pattern. Those held up so well, even with moving 6 times, we never broke a piece. But I did get tired of them, so about 4 years ago I started collecting Fiesta. I haven't bought place settings, just the pieces I actually use. My main colors are tangerine, sunflower, turquoise and scarlet and I also have some pieces in other colors that I like. I also bought 6 PW dinner plates that coordinate with the Fiesta. I also have Christmas China that I use from Thanksgiving until sometime in January and a set of Noritake China that I occasionally use. I love to drink coffee from my China cups

I'm going to have to count this out as I type and then go back and vote correctly!
I started single in my own apartment with my grandmother's Noritake china pattern as my everyday. I continued to use those as everyday in my first marriage along with our Fitz & Floyd wedding china for special occasions. Eventually, when we had children we switched to sturdier colorful everyday dishes & bowls that I mixed and matched over the years. Then after the divorce, I bought a white set from Ikea for everyday and left the others behind (I took my grandmother's, leaving the wedding china & the everyday). Then I re-married and we bought vintage Churchill "Blue Willow" for everyday. He had china as well and we've acquired a number of other sets of china through the estate auction company I work with. I also picked up some other everyday at auction that are super colorful just to switch out with periodically. I currently have the two sets of everyday and five sets of china in my cupboards available for ready use.
I'll have to scroll back up to see if the poll even covers 'dish addicts' like me.

For years (25) I used the Franciscan apple pattern. Even decorated my kitchen with them. Five years ago I remodeled my kitchen. Everything is now pale yellow and white. Open shelves. White Corelle and yellow fiesta. I even spray painted my Franciscan pitchers with white spray paint ! Turned out exactly what I wanted. 😊

I have been married 40 years and have replaced my dishes once. I only did that because I inherited my grandmother's Johnson Bros. china. I have been using that for 32 years. I still like it, but don't love it anymore. It is just one of those things for me that I don't really care too much about, so I will probably use it until I die!

too many times, due to my longevity. I am a dish whore. I love dishes, and have as many as 8 sets at a time.
When I married in 1976, I got stoneware (potpourri Hue by Denby), 12 place setings and all accessories. I had won 8 pace settings of fine china while in college (Carlyle by Royal Doulton).
My husband died in 1985, and I wanted a change. I started collecting Fiesta, getting 2 place settings of each color, starting with the new release in 1985. Finally got enough to get rid of Denby, then had a fire, where the fine china was all damaged. Replaced the fine china with Preston by Wedgewood and Black CLoisonne by Fitz and FLoyd. And on a whim, when I started entertaining a lot, bought Royal Orchard by Noritake setting for 12 and all serving pieces.
Then wanted something simpler, and went to Macy's Black Friday and bought 6 boxes 4 piece place settings of a simpler white Country French pattern so I would have enough to host my dinner that night for 20 people. I love the white dishes.
Sold my fiesta ware to a dealer about 4 years ago, (I think I had 26 pace settings by then), and still have Wedgewood and Noritake in storage. But love and use the white everyday and for formal dinners. SO easy to dress and accent. I have multiple colors of accent plates and glasses. I am currently on a plum accent kick.
I figured at one point that between the winning, selling and insurance settlement, I was even on my dish expenditures. I have also had multiple sets of antique or vintage dishes over the years. And 3 different sets of Christmas dishes.
I blame this on growing up on dinner plates earned by bank deposits. I have always said, buy me dishes not diamonds.

When we first moved in together we had a mishmash of dishes (broke grad school students). Those don’t count.
When we got married we registered for and received 8 sets of black bowl shaped dishes (and bowls). The looked neat but we’re awful to wash. They were so big and so deep that they didn’t fit into a dishwasher correctly or easily. But hubs loved them so I kept them for 10 years.
Then about 4 years ago I found Fiestaware. I loved the colors! So now we have about 12 sets of plates and bowls and then various serving pieces in all different colors. And they fit into the dishwasher!!!

I've had so many sets of dishes over the years, I can't even remember what they were. I have had fiestaware for the past 8 years, and like those. I have settings in all of the colours I like (and no more than one place setting in each colour).
I do have the plaid Williams Sonoma dishes that I use throughout the Christmas season, as well, and a set of Spode china that I use about once a year, if that.

When I was single I acquired over time a set of dishes in a brown pattern, from a local grocery store. I had matching serving dishes too.
When we got married 19+ years ago we got a plain white Corelle from my parents, including serving bowls and platters. I gave all my old ones to a cousin and we have used the white ever since. Sometimes I think I’d like a change, and the more square plates interest me, but whatever I got would likely be plain white again, because you can do so much with different colored accents.

When we got married 20 years ago we had White dishes With embossed fruit around the edge, then after 7 or 8 years my husband surprised me with lime green dishes (my favorite color) but about 5 years ago we switched back to white, but this time plain but in a square shape. I really just like white dishes and I love the shape of these, so I don’t see myself changing anytime soon. I do have “fancy dishes” we use for company. I also have a set foot Debbie Mumm dessert plates that are covered in light blue snowflakes, I use those year round though for my snacks or dessert because I am in a constant state of wishing for snow. If she had made a full set of skates in that pattern, we totally would have bought them.

I'm not sure? Maybe 3-4 times. We had some cheap stoneware when we got married. Replaced with Corelle at some point because kids, but there may have been a different cheap stoneware before that. Replaced the Corelle with Fiesta (multiple colors) a few years ago and I add a new color periodically. BUT I also bought a set of the PW dishes last year because they were so cute, and I mix them in with the Fiesta as needed.
Please don't ask me how many total sets of dishes I have, including my mom's and grandmother's wedding china. The answer is way more than we could ever use.

Our original dishes were Pfaltzgraff—Poetry. We used those for over 10 years (pattern was retired). Then, I found The Cappuccino pattern while at one of their outlet stores. Bought enough for 8 place settings. I didn’t know they had moved production to China. So, I began buying Longaberger pottery and they moved production to China. Since I started with baking dishes, I had only managed to a few serving pieces and luncheon plates.
Next was Fiesta. The Cinnabar was perfect to use with the red LB dishes. We ran all over creation in search of that color, as it had been retired. I have 6 or 8 place settings in the red. They are mixed in with Marigold and Plum for my fall set. For Spring—3 of the blues, Lemongrass, and a yellow.
Last year, DH had been talking about buying a set from a local potter. I love his creations. Due to some miscommunication, I ended up with a nine piece setting last Christmas.
So, we use the Fiesta and the potter’s dishes.
The Boy will be given the Cappuccino set when he moves out.

- Set for college/first apartment, got rid off - Two sets from first marriage, casual stoneware (got rid of because only had a set of four and couldn't buy more of the pattern) and fine china (still have) - Set of plain white when current DH and I got together, still have twelve years later - My parents' wedding china when I got married, still have
Of all the ones I have, I prefer the plain white because I can add to it very easily when needed and it is very versatile. Can be dressed up and changed with different linens and flowers and such.

Still on our original Franciscan plates from 25ish years ago. They're heavy and a bit bulky, but for now, we have the room and don't picture changing them til we downsize (if then)

I need to be able to select 1-2 times as well as when Fiesta when a new color comes out.
I went from oh dang it whats the brand...all the stores carry it. Anywqys went from that to Fiestaware. So changed brands once.
Then I update when I like a new color by Fiesta.

We are still using the same set we had registered for 34+ years ago. Mikasa Country Cabin. We broke one plate when it slipped out of my hand and a piece sliced my little finger requiring 2 or 3 stitches. Otherwise the set is intact.

I think I've done it once, in Doctor, I'm having a dilemma...
I got dished when I moved in here. No idea what kind. That was 2001. In 2008 my Nana died. I was told I could have her everyday dishes. I said yes, for the sentimental value. They are SO not me. I'd like to change them out. But I feel guilty.
I'll take a pic later to show you what they look like.

I bought Corelle when I first moved out of my parents house and used that until we did a kitchen remodel in 2003 and I bought Fiesta as part of the remodel cost. So I've had two sets of dishes in 32 years.
Disclaimer: Fiesta is a collection so I keep adding to it. I have 21 place settings, all in different colors.

if you don't count the handmedown set from my mum that I moved out with - never. I bought Pfaltzgraf Filagree back in the early 90s from the Betty Crocker catalogue (remember that? you saved points from packages and a few points gave you a discounted price but a LOT of points gave you a highly discounted price).
I've added to and replaced pieces but we're still using the Filagree. I've add a few serving pieces from Winterberry for Christmas use - it's the same pattern with a holiday design overlaid.
I inherited a set of 'good' china probably 20 years ago also - we use it for holidays but I want to start using for Sunday dinner as well. It's not a pattern I would have picked but it's grown on me.
We eloped - so no wedding register (or gifts really at all) for us.

We’ve had so many sets, I’ve lost count. Let’s see, when DH and I moved in together, I think my MIL gave us a set. I then replaced it with a small set of plain white dishes. Then we needed more so I purchased some simple white plates so we could have enough to host dinners. We also received wedding china. Eventually with more kids, I purchased some stoneware sets. Not a good idea because those chipped easily. Replaced them with some Noritake and eventually tired of those and started buying fiesta in ivory. Had over 12 sets, but they drove me crazy because the flatware marks were difficult to remove so those have been replaced with darker colored fiesta sets in various colors. I can see myself replacing the fiesta sets at some point in the very distant future because they are heavy. Yeah, I have issues.

My mom bought me a set of dishes from Target when I moved out of her house and into an apartment 2001. We still have them though some have broken over time and we've replaced them with random single items as needed. We use them daily - we don't keep disposable dishes in the house so they have gotten a lot of use.

I picked the 5+ times, but that has been for 30+ years. I probably replace them every five years or so. We have some Corelle that has been around for 15 years, but the breakable, chippable stuff is replace more frequently.
