My Goodreads goal this year was 25, I've read 17 books and 4 of those were about quilting and others I confess to skipping through! I don't feel like I have the attention span to read much these days, I start something, put it down and never pick it back up.
If you set a Goodreads goal or just a personal goal how have you done? What was the best book you read this year?

Hmm, I never thought about setting reading goals, or tracking my reading. I have always been a voracious reader, but it has definitely slowed as I get older. I would guess I'm a couple of books a month.
ETA my favorite book this year was A History of the World in 6 Glasses by Tom Standage

I didn't set a goal but I'm at 38 so far and I'm hoping to reach 40 by the end of the year. The most I've ever read before was 17 or 18 so I'm really proud of myself.
My top for the year is a tie - The Great Alone by Kristen Hannah and The Dream Daughter by Diane Chamberlain.

I use GoodReads and set a goal 36 books and right now I am at 36! (hoping to read another before the end of the year).
I definitely go in fits and starts and lately it has been a dry spell. I have 'A Gentleman in Moscow' on my night table and just can't get into it...
Best books of 2018: 1. The Great Alone 2. Before We Were Yours 3. Lilac Girls 4. Sing Unburied Sing
Other ones I enjoyed were: 1. Lillian Boxfish Takes a Walk 2. Around the House and in the Garden: A Memoir of Heartbreak, Healing and Home Improvement (I LOVE Dominique Browning) 3. Rules of Civility 4. The Dry

Other favorites were:
The Great Alone by Kristen Hannah Year One and Of Blood and Bone by Nora Roberts Commune book 1 and 2 by Joshua Gayou Stillhouse Lake and Killman Creek by Rachel Caine The Dream Daughter by Diane Chamberlain

My two favorites of the year were The Heart's Invisible Furies (new this year) and Lonesome Dove (and oldie, but my first time reading it).

A couple of years ago I joined one of those reading groups on Goodreads....the ones that have themes for each week or month. I thought it sounded like fun, and the themes weren't too specific...ones like "book from the year you were born" or "book with a color in the title", etc. It was a fun idea, and I even had a list of books that met each theme that sounded good to read. But then I went back to weekends on-call at the hospital. But still I thought "oh yeah, no distractions, I'll be able to read in my room at the hospital if I'm not called to see a patient". um...no. Silly me. So I failed that reading goal. However, I've been browsing around on Goodreads just recently and was thinking of setting a goal for 2019 because I feel like I hardly read anymore, not like I used to. So we will see....

I set a goal of 105 and just finished book 139 today (unemployment does wonders for your reading time, lol).
I do an end of year write up with my favorites, categories, etc. (not started yet), but these were my 5 star reads on Goodreads:
* The Heart's Invisible Furies by John Boyne * Strange the Dreamer & Muse of Nightmares duology by Laini Taylor * Circe by Madeline Miller * A Place for Us by Fatima Farheen Mirza * The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by Stuart Turton * Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens * We Are Never Meeting In Real Life by Samantha Irby * Beasts of Extraordinary Circumstance by Ruth Emmie Lang * A Ladder to the Sky by John Boyne * Dread Nation (Dread Nation, #1) by Justina Ireland * Calypso by David Sedaris * There There by Tommy Orange * Educated by Tara Westover * Us Against You (Beartown, #2) by Fredrik Backman * The Air You Breathe by Frances de Pontes Peebles * Factfulness: Ten Reasons We're Wrong About the World – and Why Things Are Better Than You Think by Hans Rosling * I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter by Erika L. Sánchez * A Conjuring of Light (Shades of Magic, #3) by V.E. Schwab

I set a goal of 50, and I'm at 55 right now. My two favorites of the year were The Heart's Invisible Furies (new this year) and Lonesome Dove (and oldie, but my first time reading it). If I was forced to pick one favorite, it was probably The Heart's Invisible Furies. Loved it! I recently finished his new one, A Ladder to the Sky, and also really liked it (not as much as Heart's, but still great writing and enjoyable).

I don't read a lot (5-6 books generally each year) so I thought I was pretty optimistic when I set my Goodreads goal to 12 books for 2018. I was hoping to read a book a month. I am pleased to report that I exceeded that and I am on my 19th book for the year.
That isn't a lot to some people but that is a LOT for me!! I think I'm going to keep my goal at 12 for next year and see how it goes.

I always set a reading goal of 52 books a year. This year I have read 74 so far! I keep track of all my books on Goodreads. As far as the best books I read this year - Sold On A Monday and The Nightingale. We are twinsies! I'm at 74, too. I'm about half way through another, so I'll probably end the year at 75 or 76. lainey, at least 2 of my books were quilting books. I read them--they count. Well, more specifically, Goodreads counts them. I haven't kept track of physical books that I read. I know I read (well, skimmed the highlights) at least 2 for my Catechism class that I teach, if those count too. I'm rereading the In Death series by JD Robb. I'm on #21 and I've found several that I don't believe I ever read. Evidently someone else is at our library, as I'm having to wait on some books. There are 5 books within each reserve, so it takes me about a month to get through "one." I've got 2 Kindles going right now and just put them into airplane mode if I'm not done before they get returned.

My Goodreads goal was 24 (1 book club choice per month and one of my choice per month) and I've read 40. I'll probably have 43 by the end of the year just because I have several days off. My favorites were The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid and The Great Aloneby Kristin Hannah. I read 14,224 pages and the longest book I read was A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness.

My goal this year was 50 and I made it. I don't have access to a library so most of the books I read were from second hand book stores, so they are usually older and obscure. I did buy a few new ones.
I also wrote a book this year during NaNoWriMo.

I set a goal of 120. I am at 109 right now. I am half way through 3 different books and I think I will be able to finish them and possibly one or two more before the end of the year, so I think I will come close to my goal, but fall a little short.
My favorites of the year:
The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller Child 44 by Tom Rob Smith A Place for Us by Fatima Farheen Mirza Plum Rains by Andromeda Romano-Lax The Story of Arthur Truluv by Elizabeth Berg Home Fire by Kamila Shamsie The Mercy Seat by Elizabeth Hartley Winthrop Sing, Unburied, Sing by Jesmyn Ward Bluebird, Bluebird by Attica Locke Us Against You by Fredrik Backman The Boat People by Sharon Bala Beasts of Extraordinary Circumstance by Ruth Emmie Lang
An American Marriage by Tayari Jones
The Extraordinary Life of Sam Hell by Robert Dugoni

I didn't have a particular goal. Our book club read "Dreamland: The true tale of America's Opiate Epidemic" which read like a novel only it was sadly true and very informative. It really changes your thinking about how drugs are distributed.
I also enjoyed Goodbye for Now by Laurie Frankel.

I didn't keep track of numbers this year -- I really have no idea. Could be 50? Maybe 100? Oh well. I know I read less this year than others because I worked a lot more hours and didn't have as much time.
My three favorites of the year were: Circe by Madeline Miller All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr The Dry by Jane Harper

My goal is 50 books, and I'm behind at 44, but with winter break coming up (I'm a teacher), I should hit my goal.
Sing, Unburied, Sing by Jesmyn Ward and Pachinko by Min Jin Lee were the two best books I read this year.

I read a ton of books. I never set goals, but maybe I will for next year. Having said that I want the book by Kristen Hannah, The Great Alone so I’m thrilled that it seems to be a hit!!

I set a goal of 52 and have read 69. I anticipate finishing a few more before the end of the year.
It's so hard to pick a favorite, but a few I loved are: "They Both Die at the End": a YA novel by Adam Silvera "Working Stiff": true recollections of a medical examiner by Judy Melinek "The One":a thriller/romance/sci-fi novel by John Marrs.
I am a librarian so I try and read books from a wide variety of genres.

No goal for me but I do keep track on Goodreads. 106 so far and I’ll probably finish 2/3 more by year-end.
FAVORITES :
The Fourth Monkey & The Fifth To Die (Bks 1&2) by JD Barker. GREAT thrillers and book 3 due Summer 2019.
The Dream Daughter by Diane Chamberlain.
The Home For Unwanted Girls by Joanna Goodman.
Atticus: A Woman’s Journey with the World’s Worst Behaved Dog. A precious book that will stick with me forever. Would make an awesome movie !
Congratulations to all our readers ! Whether you read one a week, a month or a quarter, reading took us many places. THANKS to all the Peas who broadened my horizons with all their great weekly recommendations. Looking forward to next year !!!!

I set a goal of 100 books this year, and have read 80. I might get a few more read as I will be off for Christmas break.
I think my favorite was Michelle Obama's book, "Becoming" but I also enjoyed "The High Season" by Judy Blundell, "Solomon's Oak" by Joann Mapson, "Elevation" by Stephen King and "Beautiful Day" by Elin Hilderbrand, among others.

I set my goal at 100, and have just started book 91. I'll probably get in 2or 3 more.
I did well despite some stuff that stopped me listening as much as I usually do ...my surgery (you'd think I'd read more while laid up, but I found it hard to concentrate) then Mum's surgery and spending more time doing things for her, so less reading/listening time.
I had plenty of good books this year, but not so many great ones.
My only 5 star books were:
Far from the Tree Benway, Robin The Word Is Murder (Hawthorne, #1) Horowitz, Anthony & I gave the second in the series Sentence is Death 4 stars Where the Crawdads Sing Owens, Delia
Then the best of the 4 stars:
Still Me (Me Before You, #3) Moyes, Jojo - not as good as 1 but much better than 2. A satisfying conclusion to the trilogy Lost For Words Butland, Stephanie - troubled people & set in a bookshop, what's not to like? Dear Mrs Bird Pearce, A.J. - delightfully British set during the London blitz, a bit sad but also uplifting & funny The Year of Living Danishly: Uncovering the Secrets of the World's Happiest Country Russell, Helen - non fiction, a British writer moves to Denmark when her husband gets a job at Lego. an interesting and funny account of living in Denmark. Kristin Lavransdatter Undset, Sigrid - very long but very interesting account of life in 14th Century Norway (my ancestors!) Transcription Atkinson, Kate - 18yo Juliette is recruited as a spy in 1940 The Love That I Have Moloney, James - heartbreaking, similar themes to "The Book Thief"
The duds were: Look Alive Twenty-Five (Stephanie Plum, #25) Evanovich, Janet - why does she still bother, or for that matter why do I? The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle Turton, Stuart - ridiculous plot & ridiculously confusing with 100 ridiculous characters Providence Kepnes, Caroline - she wrote YOU which I loved, but this had a silly plot with a weird sci-fi element The Perfect Nanny Slimani, Leïla - something got lost in translation here.
I'm setting my goal for 100 for 2019...I already have lots of promising ones on my list.

My goal was 30 and I’m half way through my 30th, so I’m happy. This is the first time I have met my goal in years!
I have read a lot of books I didn’t enjoy and I really need to work on that next year. I have a hard time giving up on a book for some reason.
My top 3 were Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens, Something In The Water by Catherine Steadman and The Bright Hour: A Memoir of Living and Dying by Nina Riggs

I set a goal of 40 and so far I’m at 66 and will likely read another 2-3. I thought I’d listen to more podcasts this year, but apparently not.
My two favorites for this year we Us Against You by Frederik Backman The Heart’s Invisible Furies by John Boyne.
