We were going to have a prime rib roast but I couldn't find one that was affordable (wasn't going to pay $50 for a roast for 2 people lol) So Ham and a turkey breast it is.

We are starting a new tradition this year - Christmas brunch at our house. We always went to my parents' house on Christmas Eve, but my dad said he feels like that was my mom's celebration, and he doesn't have the heart to continue it without her. (This is our second Christmas without her.)
I love hosting brunch, anyway. Our menu is pretty standard fare: waffles (my family loves my waffles), country potatoes, eggs (hubby mans the omlette station), bacon, sausage and pastries. I also serve enchiladas with fresh guacamole and salsa. We serve mimosas, bloody Marys, and we keep the coffee strong and hot all day.
I am looking forward to spending the day at home. We plan to do nothing but eat, watch movies and play board games all day.

I just confirmed our menu last night with the family. We are doing total seafood meal, lobster, shrimp, seared tuna, fish (we caught), sushi (if U can convince my husband to make it) and some sides. We change it up each year depending upon our mood. It has been just the 3 of us for a few years now so we do what we want. This year my niece and her daughter are joining us, this will increase the chance to DH making sushi because he has an eager helper.

Christmas Eve is usually with just a few family members so usually something easy since we have church service to go to.
Christmas Day we used to do a traditional meal but the last couple years we have done everything from Asian food to Mexican food and thinking about doing a couple different chili’s. We will probably have around 40 people and it would be nice not to have to spend all day in the kitchen.

Christmas Eve we go to two parties: at the first we'll have drinks and apps and then we'll have dinner at the second. I have no idea what is on the menu at the dinner party. I'm making a cheesecake for dessert.
Christmas Day I'm making both a sweet and a savory breakfast casserole and would love to just have noshy food for later, but DH wants more of a traditional meal. The compromise should be interesting.

Christmas Eve with DH's family we serve tamales, enchiladas, mexican rice and ham and cheese crepes, not sure how the crepes sneaked in there with the Mexican food!

We host Christmas Eve for my husband's family. Their tradition is oyster stew, which his niece will make. I do spiral sliced ham and some basic appetizers for those who don’t do the oysters (I’m not the only one who doesn't) or who want more than the stew.
Christmas Day is at my mother's. It’s a potluck so everyone brings something. There were a couple years when we did various soups, which I loved.

Just the 4 of us
Christmas Eve is takeaway pizza - it's my Christmas gift to myself to not have to worry about dinner (DH goes and picks it up - if we got delivery here...I would go that route but...)
Christmas Day - roast beef, yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes, a bunch of veggies including Brussel Sprouts and creamed onions, not sure yet what else....
New Year's Eve is an appetiser buffet
New Year's Day is ham, sweet potatoes, several veggies

Nothing out of the norm here. Christmas Eve we'll either do Chinese take out or pizza (it will just be DH & I). For Christmas it will be 3 of us (DH, MIL & me), so we'll do the traditional spiral ham. I am doing cheesy garlic scalloped potatoes instead of mashed potatoes this year.
Christmas menu: ham, scalloped potatoes, sweet potatoes, sugar snap peas, roasted cauliflower & pickled eggs. Still deciding on dessert & there will be Christmas cookies.

Apps Christmas Eve, Christmas Day is a brunch casserole, fruit salad with pomegranate seeds, and cherry sweet rolls. For Christmas dinner is Cherry Balsamic gamevgebs with wild rice, haven’t decided a vegetable yet. Somewhere in the holiday week we’ll do a turkey, and ham for New Years.

For something easy and relatively infallible, I love something that’s braised. Like red wine braised short ribs or pork osso bucco.

I am making a rib roast, Yorkshire pudding, spinach salad, probably smashed potatoes because the Yorkshire pudding doesn't scale well. My daughter may lobby for green bean casserole and maybe a buche de noel.
This Thanksgiving I tried something new and alternative and it didn't go over well. So I am back on the traditional holiday fare.

Christmas Eve - gammon in cider and Christmas spices, jacket potatoes, spinach and watercress salad and cheese sauce. Christmas day - rib of beef, roast potatoes, roast parsnips, Brussels, Swede, carrots, Yorkshires, pigs in blankets and stuffing balls. I have a stuffed turkey breast for those who cannot cope with the idea of no turkey

Christmas Eve is always Chinese food here with just us and our kids.
Christmas morning I do brunch for DH's sister's family & parents, and my Mom as well.
Christmas day dinner is at SIL's, and is usually turkey or ham or both.
I'm doing my family dinner on Boxing Day, and it will be turkey here!

Shrimp, andouille sausage and grits. It is sooo good and easy to fix. linkIt's what we have on Christmas for a late lunch. I don't make the grits with asiago, just plain grits that I make in the crockpot. We all look forward to our Christmas dinner!

for our family, christmas day in some ways is more about the breakfast. my parents made us eat breakfast before we were allowed to open presents. so the traditional coffee cake comes out. and recently it has been dh who makes his family traditional favorite: Dutch babies..

Don't your stores put it on sale at this point? I guess it's not popular around here in my small town. Only one place even had it and it was $15.99 a pound (smallest one was around $50) It's ok though we prefer ham and turkey anyway

For Christmas Eve I usually pick up Mexican Food from the local Taco place and Christmas day is Breakfast Casserole in the morning, and Prime Rib for dinner. We buy a 1/4 cow every year, so we always save the Prime Rib for Christmas.
