Do you stamp images to use on future layouts?
Or stamp to order, so to speak, only stamping an image when you have a layout to use it on right then?

The latter. I never pre-stamp. I don't know how my layout will turn out until I either sit down and plan it or execute it.

I sometimes stamp ahead if I am at a crop or a friend's house and borrow a stamp to use on a project I am not creating right then. I will stamp several images and tuck them away for later. Of course, "later", I have to FIND those stamped images ! (I still have some lovely stamped train tracks that didn't ever get onto my pages about a train ride adventure b/c I couldn't locate them when I was creating the page.) Don't know if it counts as "stamping ahead", but when I work on mixed media backgrounds I sometimes do the layers one at a time with drying time in between, so I may stamp on the cs two or three times in the days before creating the page. I have done the backgrounds at home sometimes to use at crops so I don't need to pack up my wet media or have all the drying time there. Usually, I don't stamp ahead for pages. If a LO "needs something", I may stamp right on the background, or use a stamp & die set to create an element.

I am nowhere near capable of pre-planning enough to stamp for the future, but I mostly stamp words rather than images so that might make a difference. I could see how stamping something like flowers (or train tracks) ahead of time could work since I'd just use that like a die cut.

I never pre-stamp. I never know what I am going to use until I actually play around with papers, embellishments, etc. Edited to say that when I have ink left on a stamp, I stamp it into an old book to clean off so to speak. Sometimes I cut those book/stamp images out for layouts, cards, mixed media work, etc. I also put extra paint into the same book. I LOVE it and use stuff out of that book a lot.

I've stamped on backgrounds that I've made when I didn't have a layout in mind, like repeated heart or flower patterns. But I don't often stamp and cut individual images solely because I don't want to store them. Like Chinagirl828, I mostly just stamp words when I'm making a layout.

I don't pre-stamp, but I do have some very large background stamps that I could see myself pre-stamping if I had a layout in mind that I wanted to complete at a crop. Otherwise, I am stamping on the layout during the embellishment phase, or stamping on other pieces of paper and cutting them out to use like die cuts.

I don't want to store pre-stamped images that I may or may not use, although I have a few 3D flowers I stamped and shaped ahead of time for cardmaking, They are far too lumpy for my layouts.
I get inspiration and plan each page based on my photos and what I have in my stash. That includes my stamps. I stamp as needed for a layout at the time that I create the layout. Occasionally I stamp my own background paper, which is not something I want to do ahead of time, especially since I want to make sure that the colors used will coordinate well with my photos.
I find stamping ahead far more useful for card making.

i wish I could plan that far ahead but I usually only plan one layout a a time. Patter that’s a great idea. I think I’ll try that out.

Yes, I have pre-stamped generic stamps like labels and tabs and other items that can be fussy cut - like some of AEs old stamps that were really generic. Kind of like making my own die cut stash. But most of the time I'm stamping on the background, or on a tag/die cut to put on the layout.

I use stamps the same as any other embellishment. I will often "preplan" my pages by choosing paper and a layout, but embellishments aren't chosen until the page is put together. Patter-LOVE that idea! You always share the best tips--Thanks!

Ooo Patter I love that idea. I have an old hymnal that I've been trying to think of how to incorporate into my scrapping! Now I know.

Okay, for those interested, here is a sample page. I had leftover paint, grabbed a stencil and put it in the book (blue circles). Then I had leftover paint on bubble wrap--used that over the circles (white paint). And lastly, I had ink on a SU wheel stamp. I added that to the circles also. Now I can cut them out and use on anything--card, layout, art journal page, you name it. Now I already have all sorts of texture there (text, bubble wrap, stamp, etc.). Click image to see details.

Sometimes it's a stamped flower, butterflies, etc., I cut out and use. Here are some butterflies that were in my book that I used on these cards:

I plan page kits for weekend crops - start with photos, then supplies. I will pack my stamps that I plan to use - cats, alphas, words etc.....so to a degree I do.
But the majority of my stamps I buy are for scrapping.....

I stamp, but not in my scrapbooks. I only stamp when cardmaking. I often stamp, color and cut out images to use on cards later.

The only thing I stamp ahead are journaling spots. I might stamp a dozen or so ahead of time.

Patter, love that idea. I usually do the later. I have done the pre-planned for either swaps or in my demonstrator days. However, they vary rarely get photos put on them. I do much better in the moment.

Hi, I'm new here. I actually do stamp ahead. Sort of... I have a few label stamps, and I will stamp maybe 20 or 25 at a time. I use labels a lot for PL, so this makes sense to me.
