Hi,
Have any of you made an egg dish or French toast dish in the crockpot overnight for Christmas morning?
I have pinned some but was wondering if anyone has any tips or recipes that they really like to eat. I know my boys will be up early and I will be exhausted. Every year I only drink coffee and end up starving; but to tired to cook.

I have not, but in the past I've done breakfast casseroles that I popped in the oven when we got up. That worked very well.

I’ve done the egg casserole one before and it takes WAY less time than they recommend. Honestly, I’d do it in the oven next time. This year we are having cinnamon rolls and sausage/biscuit pinwheels.

I make a breakfast casserole in the crockpot. I put it in the crock after I get home from church and let it cook all night. It's super simple. It has hashbrowns, eggs, cheese, milk and sausage. The recipe calls for peppers and onions but I leave those out.

I’d throw together a quiche that can just be reheated in the microwave as people wake up.

The egg dishes I've tried in the crockpot are yuck. The eggs do not set up like they're supposed to. Blech.

You make it the night before in a casserole dish, leave it in the fridge, then pop it in the oven while you're opening gifts. Very easy and nice to have something hot without much work. Sorry, I don't have the recipe -- we liked it but decided we liked regular french toast better. I know I just googled french toast casserole to find it to begin with.

The Christmas Morning egg casserole we make is made the night before and popped in the oven in the morning. I literally just made it before heading into work this morning.
6 slices of white bread buttered and cubed 2 cups cheddar cheese 4 eggs beaten with 2 cups milk 1 tsp dry mustard
Beat all ingredients together and pour into buttered dish. Cover and stash in the fridge overnight. In the morning pull it out and bake for 1 hour at I want to say 350.
When I was a kid I hated this dish, our tradition is to eat breakfast before opening ANY gifts, I would get my stocking however. I hated sitting at the table waiting foreeeeeevvvvveeeerrr for everyone to finish and of course the dishes had to be done before we could go downstairs. The adult me also realizes that It was good cover for my dad having to go across town and pick up my grandmother.
Now, it's not Christmas until that dish is in the oven. I'm the only one who eats it and I don't care, I make it for me.

I have made this one and also, in different years, similar recipe with frozen hash browns instead of bread - both made on Christmas Eve night and pop in the oven when I got up on Christmas morning. Our tradition with our kids (who are now in their thirties) was to see what Santa Claus brought and open stockings before breakfast, then have breakfast and open gifts after breakfast! Sweet memories!

I'm the only one who eats it and I don't care, I make it for me. That's funny! My sister- and brother-in-law had rules like those, including that the men had to go outside and do chores, and while they were outside we cooked up a full bacon & egg & pancake breakfast, ALL before any gifts could be opened. It was my brother-in-law's idea to torture (he called it teasing) the kids like that. We should have sent those whiney, worried kids out with HIM instead of having to deal with them in the house, but of course we didn't. Then when the kids finally got to open gifts there was paper flying everywhere and no one knew who got what from whom. When we had kids of our own, I decided that we would spend Christmas Eve at home and have a much more peaceful Christmas morning. The kids could open their stockings on their own, but then they had to get me out of bed before opening anything else. They tended to open one present at a time, and really examine it, open it up, play with it, enjoy it. Some years they weren't done opening until 4:00PM. Ah... Peace... I have used a similar recipe to yours, but mine includes some chopped green onion and crumbled up ham (the recipe calls for crumbled bacon, but who wants to be frying bacon in the middle of everything else you need to do Christmas Eve?).

grammadee said: ME, apparently. I just finished frying turkey sausage for the breakfast casserole (DIL doesn’t eat pork) and now I’m going to cook a pound of bacon for the twice baked potato casserole for dinner (sister also doesn’t eat pork, but I’ll make a second one minus the bacon). =sigh=

We also do an egg casserole - just finished putting it together. It can sit in the fridge for up to 24 hours so we make it Christmas Eve and pop it in the oven when we start getting hungry Christmas morning. Our version is eggs, Monterey and cheddar cheeses, green chilis, and sausage.

Nope. I cooked the sausage for our breakfast casserole today. Tomorrow I just need to mix everything together and pop it in the oven.

I used to always make a pineapple upside down cake on Christmas morning. I’ve got the ingredients ready and waiting for tomorrow morning, I’m really looking forward to it! DH will be thrilled, he doesn’t know yet.

I’m making Pioneer Woman’s cinnamon rolls in the morning for the first time (the dough is in the fridge now). If it’s a bust then I guess we will have cereal and milk! I always intend to make a breakfast casserole and then forget until the last minute. Right now I have frozen hash browns, eggs, cheese and milk but no sausage or bacon, so I scrapped the idea for now. Maybe I will get my act together by Nee Years...
