After my divorce (7 years ago!) I totally lost my scrapping juju. I think I went to one crop after and it just wasnt fun anymore. I got rid of a LOT of my stuff, but kept some things. I think I am ready to attempt to get back into it. Has anyone successfully taken a long break and gotten going again? I lost my space to scrap also, so I'd have to get creative in scrapping without a dedicated space!

I've heard of many people taking time away and getting back. On this board, KelleeM and jeremysgirl come quickly to mind. I never stopped but when the kids were little I only did like 20 pages in a year for several years.

Lisa is right about me. I scrapped from 2000-2008. My life fell apart and it took me two years to get back to scrapping. I started again in 2011 with digital. I did that until 2016 and now I'm back to paper. Those two years I took a break? I just threw my photos in a premade Shutterfly album because I did not want to relive them.

Oh and I scrap in a small corner in my living room. I keep my stash really small. I make kits for everything.

Yes, after my divorce I took a three year hiatus. I didn’t have kids with my ex so it just felt like all the scrapbooks I had made were a waste and I didn’t even know what to do with them. I kept all of my stuff, but the desire was not there. Project Life got me back into scrapbooking. I think OLW would also have been a good project to do. It really helped me through times of transition. The Project Life app is good imo and doesn’t require a space or huge product investment.

I did take a hiatus of close to 5 years. I purged some during that time but kept tools, dies, punches, card stock and some other stuff. I even went to a crop weekend and crocheted! In May of this year I was inspired to start again and my dh carved out a small area for me in our basement. I have completed close to 200 12 by 12 pages since I began again. And my love for this hobby is far greater now than it was in the 14 or 15 years I had been an active scrapbooker.

Yep, almost 3 years! I stopped in 2010 during an illness, then I started back in 2013.

I went on a crafty hiatus for about 9 years (I know!). When I got back into it, I made the mistake of binge buying. YouTube totally enabled me. Having all that product became overwhelming and inhibited my creativity. A lot of those items have now been purged or are still waiting to be used. I am much more careful about what I purchase now. One good thing to come out of all those purchases, is that I have found "my style". There is no question now if I will use something or not, and I feel much better about walking away from really cute things when shopping. Welcome back!

I have. I stopped in 2011 when I got divorced and just started up again in late 2017. Having my first grandchild helped bring the mojo back. I don't scrap any faster than I did in the past, but my love for the hobby is still there.

I stopped pretty much for about two years. I didn’t get rid of my stuff though because I had a feeling I’d go back to it and I did. 😊

I stopped scrapping for about 3-4 years. I didn't even pay any attention to new releases or changing trends during that time. It was a stressful time with so many life changes and my focus was on other things. I am definitely back to scrapping regularly now but I do have occasion dry spells. I don't worry about it. I know my mojo will come back. You could go through your supplies and they will probably inspire you. Go through pictures and think about stories you'd like to record and that will definitely inspire you. Look for ideas on Pinterest and YouTube, too. Don't stress about it. Just start having fun with your supplies again. And it's OK if you don't have a dedicated space. Many scrappers don't. Your dining room table or bedroom floor are just fine.

I took a pretty long break. I finished up my wedding/honeymoon album in 2007 and didn’t touch anything again until 2011. Aside from traveling I didn’t have a lot that I scrapped and until we had a baby didn’t feel the need to get back at it. I used to be a 12x12 scrapper CM multi-photo and multi-page layouts scrapper. Things really changed during that time, most of the LSS closed and CM was on the way out. I was introduced to PL and pocket scrapping and have fairly successfully gotten back into a routine of documenting ever since. I will say that my style and priorities changed a lot, which took some time to adjust to for me. I wouldn’t say that I completely got my groove back in terms of creativity and enjoying creating, but I have really done a better of journaling and story telling this time around. And as I have mentioned before on other threads, when I got back into it I was literally sitting on an exercise ball in the playroom closet working on a rolling storage cart. I have my own space now, but there are always ways to make it work.

I am in the same boat, scrapped until the divorce and thinking that a project life type of album will get my mojo back. I mostly did mini albums in the past, but took a few years off. I’ve been looking at options for doing an album for 2019, and think that just creating a space and getting the album prepped will make me want to start. I’ve been saving memorabilia in case I want to go backwards and create minis for the missing years.

Yes, I took a 5-year break from scrapbooking, couldn’t live up to the standards and “rules” of perfect scrapbooking in the magazines anymore, got rid of nothing, packed it all up, spent all my time on the NSBR, made friends, learned a lot.
Those people were the only thing that got me through my state-to-a-different-state move. I left everything I knew in my physical world but took my online friends and online world with me, only thing that got me through it.
Eventually came back to scrapbooking. My time at immersing myself in NSBR rubbed off on me. When I came back, I vowed I would scrapbook whatever I wanted, however I wanted, whenever I wanted. It’s been good ever since.
And that’s my story.

All of my stuff was packed in storage and life happened. I got back into it a few months before I found this board back in 2016! I have never looked back. I have a small guest room that I scrap in and even though it's small and cramped, I can't NOT be creative. I missed it SO much those 5 years!

We moved in 2009 and I didn't get seriously back into it until about 2013. I didn't pay attention to the trends or great new products around that time. I've recently been shopping a lot and buying old product lines I missed out on. Now I feel caught up on product & seriously behind on the creating part again.
I'm seriously behind on printing photos from about the last 7 years too & that is a major project I'm working on.

For the past 8 years or so I have been on and off. Had a difficult time with my mojo even with taking photos. I feel like the past few months I am ready to get back into it. I had a good size scrap room but didn't use it much. I set up a small table now in the family room and it is great for now.

Thank you all for the inspiration. I'm trying to get myself motivated to scrap again. I signed up for a scrap retreat next month, but I have been in a serious scrap-funk for at least a year. I haven't printed photos in quite a while either. I saw that Mpix sent an email saying that everything is 25% off, so I'm going to try to get some photos ordered. I need to find a place to scrap and keep a few supplies out, I used to have a huge scrap room, but I lost it when we moved last summer, so I just never unpacked my scrappy stuff. I'm off work for a few days, so I'm going to try to sort out some of my supplies and see if I can get myself going again.

When we started renovating our home in order to move (doing a lot of the work ourselves), I did almost no scrapping for about 4 or 5 years until we were in our new home and mostly unpacked. I tried. It was just really hard to find time or energy.
I did occasional card making during that time, but not that much card making, either. Even after unpacking my supplies in my first dedicated scrapbook room, I had trouble scrapbooking. What got me interested in scrapbooking again was a family trip to Disney World.
Sometimes you just need to start with a project you can be really excited about, whether a trip, a new grandchild, or some other special event that you want to scrap. Something fun. If you don't have anything you really want to scrapbook, maybe you should plan a special outing, take some photos, and then go find papers and supplies to go with those pictures. Sometimes it's just getting started again that is hard. Once you get past that hurdle, it's easier to keep going.

I have taken a hiatus before, and come back from it. I think re-starts are natural, especially if you've been in this hobby for a long time! Lots of people carve out spaces from their dining room or a closet. You can do it! Welcome back!

I haven’t scrapped in years for various reasons. When I wanted to restart I found instead that I enjoyed cardmaking and art journaling/mixed media instead. One day I hope to scrap again and incorporate these new techniques into my layouts that will be featuring my now adult children.

Starting in 2010, I took about a 3 year break when my DD had serious health issues. It made me very upset to look at her and scrap photos of her healthy and happy. As her health became more stable, I started again and even did an album of her journey.

I have. I've gone months and months, almost a year without touching it. Mostly because life gets busy and other things take priority. Sometimes, it's just the ebb and flow of life. I scrapbook in chronological order. It is always there waiting for me. It will get done, when it gets done. When I scrapbook nowadays, I still love it just as much as I did back when I first started(Fall 1996).
Edited to add... I think my scrapbook slow down happened when I switched to digital camera. I am slow to print photos. I think having the piles of photos sitting there, inspires me to scrapbook.

I haven't scrapped in at least six years, and I'm so on the fence about it. I just don't know if I want to start up, but I miss the creative outlet. Plus, my kids are grown now. I know there are other things I could scrap, like trips, but it isn't as interesting for me. I'm going to see if my daughters want any of my supplies and I'll probably keep my tools for now, but I am just not sure I will ever get my mojo back.

2018 was a tough year for me. I did not take a lot of photos. I did not scrapbook at all. I want to start again in 2019. Trying to renew my energy and get some joy back from a hobby that I do truly love.

Me! I hardly scrapped at all the past six years but looking forward to restarting in 2019. Actually starting today and hope to at least get to scrap on Sundays throughout the year. That's the plan anyway! Lisa Pea
