Hello peas!
So, after getting hooked on Gennifers thread about Susan Powell and lots of bing listening, I have now also finished teachers pet that was mentioned. I'm addicted!!!
Side tangent: Met a couple visiting from Australia at our local hot springs pool last night and we chatted about it. They live 5 minutes from the house she went missing from.
Anyways, do any peas have other good suggestions for podcasts they've enjoyed?

The Incomparable Podcast Network (mostly geeky pop culture stuff). The main show ("The Incomparable") posts every week on Saturday or Sunday, and covers lots of different things--books, movies, food, and they have a segment called Rocket Surgery where they watch a bad sci-fi movie. Host Jason Snell has a fondness for drafting things, kind of like fantasy football, but they draft things like Muppets, board games, Thanksgiving dishes, and Star Trek episodes. I've played the Disney movie draft episode for several people while working on painting projects, and everyone has found it enjoyable. They have a network of other shows too, focusing on specific topics. I particularly look forward to Game Show which usually posts every other Wednesday. My favorite segments of that are Inconceivable (which is a lot like Ask Me Another on NPR but a little nerdier) and Low Definition, which is like Balderdash (but legally distinct!) and besides words also includes coming up with synopses to Hallmark Christmas movies, writing the opening sentence of a romance novel, finishing a haiku, or picking the correct foreign name of a movie. Game Show also features a lot of trivial pursuit and other types of games. I've been listening to this for a couple of years now, I think, and I've pretty much got everyone's voices down now, but it is a rather bewildering cast to begin with. Steve Lutz is my favorite.

My most recent "true crime" type podcast is "Broken Harts", which is about the Hart family who drove off the cliff in California earlier this year. There are only three episodes out so far, and what they have revealed about the family's background so far is quite sad.
I also just finished "Believed" about the women who brought down Larry Nassar (abusive USA gymnastics doctor).
Have you listened to "Dirty John"? That one was utterly bizarre.
I also like storytelling podcasts like "The Moth", "Mortified" and "This American Life".
History: "History Chicks"
Creepy: "Lore"
Feminist: "Stuff Mom Never Told You", "Hysteria", "The Bechdel Cast"
Self Help attempts: "By the Book" (they read self help/lifestyle books and follow the recommendations for two weeks, then report back)
Crime: "Criminal", "Casefile True Crime".
There are some I wish I liked because I'm interested, but I find the hosts annoying, so I gave up.

I listen to several Outlander podcasts. Mugglecast is good if you’re a Harry Potter fan. This Is Us Too is done by the same couple who does Outlandercast and I find it interesting as well. Mary is sweet and loves the romance and relationships while Blake always comments on the writers, directors, and more technical info.

I like Your Last Meal. The host interviews one guest per show---everyone from actors to musicians to chefs and more. The Ken Jennings one was particularly entertaining I thought. "What would your last meal be? On this James Beard Award nominee for Best Podcast, host Rachel Belle asks every guest this question - but that’s just the beginning! Each dish’s origins, preparation, and cultural influence are among the many stones upturned as Rachel consults chefs and culinary anthropologists, fishmongers and fry cooks on her quest to explore every facet of Your Last Meal."

Love Mike Rowe’s! Very similar to the old Paul Harvey pieces
Discontinued but Thinking Sideways was a huge favorite. Well worth listening to old episodes. I was super sad when they quit making new ones.
Right now I’m binging on Slow Burn, about Nixon & Clinton
LOVE LOVE LOVE NPR’s Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me - it’s my weekly highlight. I also like NPR’s politics podcast.

Another good one is Unforgotten
And I’m trying to find a couple of series I listened to last summer. One was aboutThe Sommerton Man & another about DB Cooper.
Also any time Brad Meltzer is interviewed. I could listen to him all day long.
ETA: Astonishing Legends was the Somerton Man/Tamam Shud series - there were 4 episodes. The other series I was thinking of wasn’t DB Cooper, it was called Cover Up by People Magazine, about Ted Kennedy.

I've been trying to listen to Dr. Death, but what's with the commercials? It's the first podcast I've ever listened to that had them, and it's irritating as hell.

Oh No Ross and Carrie-- they investigate fringe religions, fringe beliefs, and con artists. Their series on Scientology is great.

My all time favorite was The Mystery Show by Starlee Kine from This American Life. It isn't in production anymore but still worth a listen.

I will also highly recommend Thinking Sideways. They tackle unsolved mysteries, ranging from unsolved murders and disappearances, to Atlantis and archeological mysteries.
It has sadly ended, but the catalog is still available. It's very well researched, covers very interesting topics and contains no foul language (although some topics shouldn't be played around children as they go into some detail of murders and such)
Australian podcast Casefile is one of my favourites! It is chilling how well written it is, I have cried at the end of a few of them in sympathy of victims and their families. The Daniel Morecomb episode had me in pieces. But that is because the podcast include more information about the remaining family than what is typical for a true crime podcast. You really get a sense of how much a murder affects the family and loved ones with this podcast, all while being extremely respectful to them. I highly recommend it if you want more than just the gruesome details of a crime.

Click on your podcast player and seach for any of the podcasts listed above. They usually also have categories or another way to explore and find new ones. You can subscribe to podcasts which means that it will be added to your list and you will be notified when there are new episodes. Podcast players have a variety of options that can automate downloads, creating playlists and errasing podcast depending on your preferences. You can stream podcast (use your data or WIFI to access the audio file from the internet while you are listening) or you can down load and listen later independent of internet connection.

Some are stand alone stories for each broadcast. They can cover any topic -- when I'm cleaning, I like to put on self help style ones. When I'm working out, I like to listen to story style ones. Be brave and try it out. If you get confused, come back and ask. No flaming here! Enjoy.
