Yes the dog licks the dishes. We give her our plates sometimes after we are done. We make sure there is no onions or garlic or other toxins before she gets it. (She really loves steak plates)

I checked no to licking, but yes to people food. But only a small amount...occasional piece of chicken here and there.

Mine are not allowed to lick the dishes in the dishwasher mostly because I’m afraid they cut themselves at the silverware and they do get some leftovers because seriously if it’s good enough for me it’s good enough for them

Our dog does not lick plates and he eats people food in that it’s all human-grade organic meats and vegetables but it’s raw. We don’t feed him table scraps or anything like that.

I checked yes to licking and people food but it is only small nibbles. I am very careful as to what I may allow. She does not get to lick the plate very often nor gets large bites of human food unless you count baby carrots and she gets lots of those - her favorite treat.

Yes, I'm terrible. I give my dogs limited table scraps - things I know to be safe for dogs, like simple grilled meat or vegetables (not onions or garlic) - and sometimes one of them "helps" by licking the pre-rinsed plates I am loading in the dishwasher. She only gets a tiny bit of flavor from doing that as I do scrape and rinse the plates before loading. I also feed them scraps of dog-safe food while I'm cooking - for example, I was spiralizing a raw sweet potato tonight, and I gave them the ends that were left as a treat.
No one has died yet.

My pets get fed twice a day their dog food. They also get people food treats when we are eating. My little blind diabetic dog sits on a chair at the dinner table with us. She only gets protein and veggies anymore but she only is happy when she's touching me so up at the table she sits.

I chose "Yes my pet licks the plate and yes we give him people food."
Every now and then he gets sick of dog food and won't touch it, so I have to trick him by putting a little bit of human food in his bowl. Even if it's just a small amount of grated cheese over the top of his dry food.
And yes, I'm well aware that the occasional refusal of dog food probably stems from us giving him human food now and then.

No on licking the dishes before they get washed - for dh it’s gross, for me it’s a manners issue. No to table scraps - I cook with too many seasonings or things they shouldn’t eat, especially onions! Yes they do eat human food - one of them is raw fed so he eats raw meat, yogurt and pumpkin. Dh gives the others the bread ends. They also get carrots, chicken paws and green beans. Darn, I can’t remember the rest Our dogs have their own dishes because we have three dogs and they each get a different amount of food.

I’m pretty sure I shop at Whole Foods more often for my dog then for me I have found ground pork at most stores, even their in house ground pork, has salt added. I have to get that at Whole Foods.

In general I don't give the cats people food...except for an occasional treat. Angelique loves asparagus and sometimes a little pasta. Mostly I give it to her by hand off my my plate. Every now and then I might let her lick a bit off the plate if I have finished eating...maybe once every few weeks Therefore I can't say I never do it, but it isn't a regular occurrence. The other cat, Emmeline would pretty much eat anything she can get to and would lick every plate if I let her...therefore I don't because I definitely don't want that to become a habit with her. My cats are inside only, sleep in my bed and I kiss them on the head....but licking my plates on a regular basis is still something I think is a bit gross

My dogs do not lick the dishes. Yes, they are given some people food: popcorn, pizza crust, a wee bit of Mac and cheese, cheese.
The big dog had a bout of pancreatitis years ago because DH gave her to much hamburger despite my vociferous demands to stop. He paid that $3-grand without comment. Fortunately, she never ended up diabetic. She’s almost 13. She loves bananas and apples, which we share freely.

I chose no to licking dishes and yes to people food. He does occasionally lick as they go into the dishwasher but we never put our dinner dishes on the floor for him or anything. Well give him a piece of apple or cheese as we’re slicing some up or a cracker ds didn’t eat from lunch or something but all stuff we just hand feed him or toss on the floor.

They do a chicken, beef, pork grind so I don’t get the just pork as much as I did when I first transitioned him.

So, those who give people food: do your pets only take it when you give it to them? Or will they eat anything they can get to?

Abby doesn’t have the stomach for human food. She is a princess and if it didn’t make her sick we would let her eat whatever she wanted and let her lick the plate clean. Jen

So, those who give people food: do your pets only take it when you give it to them? Or will they eat anything they can get to? We sometimes sprinkle small bits of “people food” over their food to entice them and mix it up a bit. Or mix some egg with their food or some veggies. We will also offer an occasional nibble off our plates. Neither of my small dogs will touch food not offered to them. I can leave a plate of tempting food on a coffee table right next to them and they won’t touch it. They are very obedient.

We don't give our dogs plates to lick, but it doesn't stop them from patrolling the dishwasher and mommy shaming me for not rinsing them well enough, and picking up my slack. Our dogs eat their wet food out of the same cereal bowls we do, and our chug has been known to help himself to a sip of DH beer if the mug is close enough. DH tells the dog he's gross, and goes back to drinking his beer. We are not a big fear of cooties kind of family.
As far as people food goes, We do give our dogs and cat a little chicken or turkey, if it's not seasoned with onion or garlic. Both our dogs (chihuahua mixes) immediately start dancing on their back legs when they hear the deli drawer open in the fridge, and both puke steak, no matter how small the bite is. Our cat retches if she smells lobster, crab, shrimp, or chocolate.

No licking and no people food. Our pets have never really been interested in people food and we don’t really offer so not to encourage them.

My dogs have to wait for any food, they are quite skilled at it. They get released to eat when I say so. So if they are licking a dish, it’s becas I said they could (well, her, the other dogs are delicate flowers). They do beg more than I’d like, but they are trained to place and will go when I tell them so putting them there solves that. Not giving in to cute begging would probably help too but I’m not a monster Overall, while a wee bit crazy (the border has bad OCD, the mix is anxious mess a lot of the time) my dogs are pretty well trained. One has an obedience title and trick titles.

So, those who give people food: do your pets only take it when you give it to them? Or will they eat anything they can get to? Only once did we accidentally leave food where the pup could get it. She finished off a plate of almond stuffed, bacon wrapped dates and survived, but we've never made the mistake of leaving food within her reach again. I don't let her lick the plates and only feed her in the kitchen. She comes racing when she hears me cutting vegetables and goes insane if she sees it is carrots (she can see the kitchen countertop from the landing). She'll sit beside me for a while, but it I ignore her too long she gives me a whap on the leg. As long as I acknowledge her, she'll wait patiently for her treat when I'm done. Cheerios, cucumber and apples are other favorites. If I'm making scrambled eggs, an extra one goes in for Bella to eat off a people plate.

The answer would have been different for previous pets.....all deceased.
We now have 2 previously feral cats. The have NO interest in any human's food. They have no interest in licking a dish.
They eat only dry cat food and on occasion, one of the cats will eat some wet cat food.

I checked no to licking plates but yes to people food because that’s what is currently true, but in the past we have let them lick the plates on occasion. The dog we still have is a poodle who would get slop stuck in her face fur if we let her lick the plates so we don’t. But we do give her little bites of some of the stuff we eat. Tonight DD didn’t eat all of her cheesy broccoli but the little dog was happy to finish off the last couple bites. I sometimes like to eat those big soft pretzels at lunch, and when she hears the microwave beep and the door pop open, she comes running, LOL. If given the chance she would get into whatever she could, so we’re glad she’s small and can’t get into anything on the table or counters like our previous bigger dogs could (and frequently did).

No licking, but we do give people food now and then.
Funny story. I took out my diamond earrings one night and put them on my nightstand safely pushed under the lamp. My dog was a pup at the time and there was also an empty bowl of popcorn on the table. I guess the smell was too much for the pup and we all know where this is going. Two days later, I realize one of my earrings is missing. They were my mother's and my dad had them hand made for her. I looked for hours. Finally I told my husband to start collecting the dog's pooh in bags and I would start checking. He brought one home later that morning and low and behold, there was my earring in the poo and tons of peanuts. "We" weren't feeding the pup any people food, so my husband was busted for giving him treats when I wasn't there. On the positive side, I was so happy to have that smelly earring back I didn't care.

Yes to licking the dishes. One dog has wheat/grain issues, so the only people food they get is protein and veggies such as carrots and green beans.
