It never fails, each time we have a house guest coming to stay a few nights, I feel the need to buy new stuff. This time it’s a new clock for the living room (ours stopped working and the spot on the wall is bare), a new area rug for the living room, and new guest/kids bathroom shower curtain and towels. Unfortunately, since Christmas was so expensive there is no extra money in the budget right now for anything.

Yes. I'm currently wanting to redo the guest room.

Yes! I had a friend come to stay and scrapbook for a week. Before she came, I redid my scrap room - new paint, a TV, new desk area, and got a fridge for snacks. I'm glad I did - it's making my scrapping time so much more enjoyable. This week I have family in for the holidays (parents and sister's family) and I picked up some new tablecloths for the dining room and a few new Christmas decorations. Enjoy your company!

No but then again the house guests that come to my house are used to what I already have. I don't need anything either. I would never judge their house, and I know they don't judge mine. Now I do like to have it clean and picked up but I don't feel the need to buy new stuff.

we don't have extra money for buying stuff just because nor do we have house guests very often but I tend to focus on cleaning and getting DH to tackle part of the honey-do list

I don't need house guests to cause that. Just offering to host my card group in October led to new dining room chairs, new dining room rug, new table linens, repaint front bathroom, new shower curtain, additional towel bar, new towels, new tissue box covers in the bath and my office, new light shades on the bathroom sconces, new pillows for the kitchen banquette and an entirely new set of dishes. I don't even want to think what overnight guests would cost me!

Makes me want to buy a guest house to put them in. And maybe the above -mentioned wine.

No, although our last set of guests did prompt DH to change the batteries on an oversized wall clock. They had been dead so long I stopped using that clock to check the time. Guests coming does prompt me to check the kids' bathroom although I do give them warning before I go in.

Yes, sort-of. It makes me want to clean and spruce up and there’s usually something in that process that makes me want/need to buy something. For example, new sheets or towels because my current ones are looking a little worn out.

No, because it's generally my parents or kids.

We’re generally pretty set since everything in our guest room is fairly new, but I do feel the urge to get the house extra clean before people come. Especially DD’s bath because that’s the one the guests use. We have a little tray on the nightstand in our guest room that we usually fill with little snacks or treats we know they will like, a couple bottles of water and maybe a new lip balm or something.

Not really. I am pretty set on what I like and I love my home. Now, I will deep clean and freshen everything up. But usually my home is guest ready.

No, I am not a motel/hotel. My son’s room is now my sewing room and my daughter’s room only has room for a twin bed. I will think about getting a bigger bed when she gets married.
A side note: We told one of husband’s brother that we could accommodate their rv. If they wanted to visit. The brother then asked what was there to do here? Ah? visit us? Nope not enough to warrant a visit, they want to be entertained.

For me, I always want to buy new towels. LOL Maybe next time I'll buy some towels and take them out of rotation and use them only for guests. Problem is, we rarely have houseguests so I'd be storing towels for like 2-3 years at a time. LOL

No, but I’m on this whole purge, deep clean, buy home stuff right now after Christmas for some reason. I just finished making lists of things to clean and buy... idk what’s gotten into me.

Having house guests usually motivates me to deep clean, but I don't usually feel like I need to buy anything new. I do purchase travel size toiletries to put in a basket in the guest bathroom, in case they forgot anything, and I have guest linens I keep in a sealed bag with a dryer sheet, so they are always fresh, and ready pull out just before they arrive.
Relax and enjoy your guests! They are there to see you, not your area rug. If it's really bothering you, you could always check places like Dollar stores, Big Lots, TJ Maxx, etc. for things on deep discount. The shower curtain currently hanging in my guest bathroom was marked down 4x on clearance to $4.99 (liner and hooks included) at Lowes. Could you move something from another room to fill in the blank spot on your wall?

Sometimes. I had to get curtains up in the guest room so they wouldn’t be blinded by the morning sun. I found nice curtain panels for 79 cents each. Yes, 79 cents! So of course had to buy plenty for the dining room too! And I found a great deal on curtains for the living room (not 79 cents however) and I got those too.
The last guests we had I went “shopping” in my supply of decorations I’m not currently using and hung some stuff in the walls. Free is good. 😁

I definitely look around and see if anything needs to be replaced. My three granddaughters (ages 9, 11 and 13) are over once or twice a week and use our guest room as their hangout. As a result, the pillows get smooshed and the comforter was looking a little sad. So before my stepdaughter came out from NYC to spend some time before Christmas, I bought some new pillows and beautiful bedding. I also bought a plain, washable bedspread that, now that the Christmas festivities are over, I've placed over the new comforter so that the girls can lay on it and watch TV or play their games. I also kept the old smooshed pillows and changed them out for the new ones, which are kept safely in the linen closet. :-)

We have friends come for long weekends twice a year. They sleep in my 2.5 yo DS’s room so I go thru and clean out his clothes and the mess that’s accumulated in the past 6 months. Then I head into My 7yo DD’s room and start on that since we move DS’s crib into her room under her loft. Today I did DS’s room and most of DD’s room. We’ll finish her room tomorrow morning, vacuum both rooms, move the crib over, and move the queen size bed to the middle of DS’s room. Friends are coming tomorrow afternoon. Ultimately, both kids will have full size lofts that we can put Queen size air mattresses under.

Yes! My husband and I always say we need someone to come and stay because it makes us do all the things that we've been neglecting. I always end up buying something new.

I always see my house with more clarity when I'm preparing for guests and try to use that opportunity to do some deep cleaning and spruce up. (Wonder where that expression came from) maybe need new pillows or mattress cover or towels. My guest room closets tend to get stuffed, too and usually need cleaning out.
