$55.63 Which, whatever, I probably wrote the check wrong.
The funny thing is that I can see up a payment plan and pay 81 cents a month for 72 months...ummm...wouldn't the money spent to manage and collect that outweigh the payment?
Ftr I paid the balance.

I once got a bill for $.12. The stamp to mail the bill cost more than the amount due!
I used to work for a shipping company. We often had individual items that cost less than a dollar that we had to ship. We weren't selling the items, just shipping them. It would take me probably ten minutes to process the paperwork for a 7 cent screw. And I was just a tiny portion of the process.

99% sure. The sites it sends me to make a payment are legit and I can get to them by going to the irs and searching. I mailed them a check (well it is sitting on my counter). I think I will call to make sure it is legit. Thanks for the reminder.

My dad was audited many years ago, when everything was handwritten. He took a day off work, gathered all his paperwork and went in. After looking at everything together, the auditor found that one of my dad’s numbers was misread by 2 cents. The IRS owed my dad two cents. He said they could keep it, but the IRS had to issue the 2 cents to my dad. I cannot remember if they handed him 2 cents or gave/sent a check. I remember how stupid it all was, but someone had to do their job.

The IRS won't send you an email. Hopefully it was an official letter. They pretty much compound interest by the day, so if it is true, good to pay it at once!

It directed me to irs.gov/payment but I don't want to pay a fee for using a card and it creeps me out to out in my bank account information (stupid i know, since it is on my check)

He said they could keep it, but the IRS had to issue the 2 cents to my dad. I cannot remember if they handed him 2 cents or gave/sent a check. I remember how stupid it all was, but someone had to do their job. My father found an error in something and complained about it. I don’t remember the details, but it was some accounting error they were making on one of his investments or something. The first person he contacted didn’t want to deal with him over such a minor amount and tried to talk my dad into letting it go. Huge mistake. Dad took it to the top and received a written apology from both the initial person he spoke to as well as the official at the top. It came with a check for Dad’s refund of 9 cents. He hung the letters and the check in his office. Dad told me it wasn’t the money, it was the principal, and that if the did this with every one of their thousands and thousands of customers, it would be quite a large sum. He originally just wanted to point out their error so they would correct it and not continue making the error, but telling him to just let it go was like waiving a red flag at a bull.

I received a bill from Macy’s last month for 4 cents. When I went to pay it in the store, the cashier said I should just wait until the next billing. I told her I was afraid they would send me an overdue notice with a $5 service charge added

I told her I was afraid they would send me an overdue notice with a $5 service charge added We had that happen recently when I underpaid a bill by like fifty cents. It was a $38 late charge! I called and got it reversed. We've been good customers for years and that's just ridiculous. freecharlie, I'd be tempted to write "NOT FOR WALL" across that check.
