My husband and I have nicknames for each other, but I shortened my name to Liz from Elizabeth in college.
My oldest daughter’s name is Madilynne and we call her Maddy. But now she wants to be Madi. 😳
My middle daughter is Olivia Grace. I call her Livvy Grace. Everyone else calls her Livvy.
My son is Jackson and we call him Jax, but he also is referred to as The Boy. 😁
My husband and I call each other Pea. Was shortened from Peanut. Yep. Same nickname for both of us. Ha

(mom didn't believe in nicknames having lived with one her entire life). That was me! It was NOT a flattering nickname. I wasn't going to spell my kids names weird either. I thought I picked the most common spelling, but I live in Utah so I'm always asked!
Occasionally, my daughter's name gets shortened but that's more out of frustration to get her attention.

I call my oldest grandson D2. Let me explain: I really called him my “DropDead GorgeousGrandson.“ Written like a chemical symbol, this becomes D2G2, so I shortened it to D2. I really think he enjoys it since he knows I think he’s Gorgeous.

My name is Valeria. Pronounced "val-er-uh". Like Valerie, but Valer-a instead.
I once had a co-worker that kept insisting on shortening my name, despite the fact that I kept correcting her (very patiently and politely).
She finally flat out stated "You're name is too hard, so I will just call you Val." like it was a done deal and there was no need for any further discussion about the matter.
But with her accent, "Val" came out "ball" Every.Single.Time.
I must admit that I finally told her a bit more directly that no, she did NOT get to decide what my name was, my Mom and Dad had done that for me YEARS ago!

I wanted to name my daughter Poppy, but her last name starts with P and it was just sing songy... but I call her Poppy. She was Poppet and then Poppy as a baby.. she often talks about using it as a stage name. My name is Mary Kathleen, and I have gone by Katie my whole life. It seems to confuse people to no end. In fact right now I am dealing with an issue with my fathers insurance company... they don't want to pay me my share of his annuity because he listed me on the policy as Kathleen. ? He did help NAME me you'd think he would have known what it is. (He also had my birth month wrong on one of the document.. I was born 2 days after his birthday!)

We specifically named our triplets names so they wouldn’t be shorted to nicknames. Our 4th child’s name could be shortened, but we forbid it as a baby, and what it could be shortened to she would hate.
Jack, Alayna, Emma and Amanda.
Of course we have nicknames for them, but they don’t use them as their names.
Jack = Scuba Steve (NICU time with a lot of face gear), Jack Man!(sung to the Batman song)
Alayna = Alayna Bayna, Alayna Rotten (she went through a three year turd faze and her middle name is Robin)
Emma = Emma Doll, Emma Bemma, Emma Nickle Pickle (middle name Nicole) and Em
Amanda = Panda (How she said her name as a toddler)

My daughter's name is Hannah but I call her Tuna. When she was a baby I would say "you are my Petunia". One day when she was about 2 years old she told me she was my "tuna". She couldn't say Petunia. Tuna stuck and she's 22 now.

We planned to use the nickname Missy for my dd. Well, this child weighed 9 pounds 15 ounces - the name Missy didn’t seem a good fit. We then decided to call her Lissy. People would call her Missy because that was really the natural nickname for her. She would always say as a toddler - I’m not Missy, I’m Lissy.

Within our family nicknames are very prominate. I’ve had one for thirty years now. My son has had his for all 15 years of his life, and my daughter has gone through an evolution of nicknames. They are love names not to be used as outside names.
On another note, my son was named after his elderly deceased grandfather. We totally thought we would call him a shortened version of his middle name but he just wasn’t it. So even though Austin soared in popularity around the year he was born and everyone thought it was “trendy” it was actually a 100 year old name

My own nickname is nothing like my given name. My mom often calls me "Boo".
Funny enough, when I got my first office job, a co-worker also called me "Boo" and then the others started calling me that too - I don't know why since they never met my mom (and she'd only call me that when I was with her face-to-face).
One day I was at the dentist and my dentist called me "Boo" - I looked at him kind of puzzled and he said "Sorry, you just look like a 'Boo' to me" - I said, that's okay, my mom calls me that too so now he often calls me that.
I have no idea why - How do you look like a "Boo?"
That's interesting. People have done that with sweet pea with me forever. 4 jobs. I like boo better. Ha

At an old job, I went by Samantha even though my name is Christine. It started out as a joke with one of my co-workers and it stuck. A couple of my other co-workers called me Samantha also. Samantha is my daughter's middle name! Her due date was July 4th, my favorite holiday, so I was going to use Sam for a boy and Samantha for a girl.
I don't like nicknames, so I didn't name my kids names that had nicknames. I got to pick the first names (because we used husband's last name) and together we picked middle names.
