The major reason I bought a Scan N Cut was to eliminate the need to buy matching dies. And for the most part that works fine. I do study the stamp and if it's intricate and the die cuts out the intricate part, I buy the die.
Before SNC, I bought every matching die. I am a horrible fussy cutter.

Nope. No need to buy any dies. All you need is a Scan N Cut machine and you can cut out ANY stamped image. You can buy one on Amazon for $222. Those dies are expensive and add up fast. You just scan in your paper and it cuts out the stamped image, either on the line or with a border of your choice. No computer needed.

I don't think I have any coordinating stamp and die sets, but it's really tempting. I just stamp so little in practice I am avoiding stamp shopping until that changes. When/if it does, I will be probably look to buy sets.

Sometimes I hand cut them. Sometimes I try to get my silhouette to cut them.

I voted Always. Not only am I a horrible fussy cutter but I have full-set syndrome. LOL!
My crafty goal for 2019 is to really look into using my Sil's PicScan mat. Thanks @zingermack for the video. I watched part of it just now, but saved to to watch in full later.

I’m in the depends camp. I’ve been meaning to try getting my Silhouette to cut them...so thanks for that video.

It depends on the stamp but I try to cut at least some things with my Silhouette.

My answer isn’t on the poll. I do not because I have a scan n cut 2 No need for me to buy the dies.

Sometimes. I bought a Scan N Cut machine so I wouldn’t have to buy the matching die, but I haven’t had much luck mastering it and I have the patience of a fruit fly. Sometimes it’s just easier to use a matching die because my Vagabond is always on my desk and ready to use. It’s easy, a no-brainer.

I need a separate category: I'd love to, but I can't afford it! I guess I don't buy a lot of stamps anyways, and then it "depends on the stamp", because if it's intricate (like I broke down and bought the dies to my crazy birds and dogs stamps) I might need it, but if it's a simpler fussy cut, I'll just do it by hand.

Usually, yes, if it's a stamp set that produces images that would be useful to have cut out. Given I source all my stuff second hand or from eBay/AliExpress it's only a few extra bucks to throw in the matching dies, so why not. I like the rounded edge that dies produce that a cutting machine doesn't, plus quick and easy. My die cutter sits right next to the main work area so I don't even have to move to pop a die in - a fast press and it's done. There's no way I would get coordinating dies at the price the American companies charge though, it's outrageous. 40$ for a die set of outlines that only works with a single set of stamps? *shaking head*

I try not to because I don’t mind fussy cutting. It depends on the stamp. The nice thing about Hero Arts kits is all of the dies that come with it for a very reasonable price. Still, it adds up. Luckily, they haven’t had much that I like lately. Most of my sets are from HA, along with a few SSS and MFT.

Watch this youtube video by Hedgehog Hollow and follow her directions which are very simple. I did two things after plugging mine in for the first time - I used her recommendations for blade settings and deactivated some screens that would come up every time you turned on the machine. That's it and I was cutting. I typically get frustrated with anything electronic/technical but this was the easiest thing ever. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pl-jQka-x-E

It depends on the price for me and how easy it would be just to fussy cut.

I’m another Pea who suffers from full set syndrome. I do buy the matching dies. A lot of my stamps are older and were purchased way before matching dies became popular so I have to fussy cut them. Yuck. Fortunately I don’t buy a lot of stamps so I can spring for the dies.

I only buy stand alone dies now and use my Scan n’ Cut for all my stamp sets. In the beginning, I tried to buy matching dies, but I realized 10 dies would get me a Scan n Cut, I’ve been using it for a few years now.

I usually find if I don't buy the dies I regret it! This. And furthermore, I will sometimes pass on a stamp set if it doesn't have dies (assuming they are images I'd want cut out). Y'all are making me want a scan n cut, but I already have a Cricut that gets used too seldom. I'm learning that I'm mostly an "unplugged" crafter.

I've sort of eyeballed Scan n' Cuts, but unless there's an easily available aftermarket supply of consumables I tend to give such specialized equipment a wide berth. What happens when the company goes out of business or decides the product line isn't profitable enough to support? Without mats and blades, it's a real expensive paperweight.

I am not a shoe person, I am not a purse person, and I only go to the mall if I really have to.
I work. I think it's ok if I get the dies I want. But most of the time I wait for a sale or get at least some sort of discount. I too love the rounded feel of a die cut versus a machine cut.
