OMG.. my husband put on some Old Spice Deodorant and totally looks like a chemical burn under his armpits.
I went off to Google to see some kind of treatment and apparently (and I maybe out of the loop) this has been an ongoing problem with LOTS of people.
Seems like there were several class action lawsuits that have been dismissed (looks like in 2016).
But holy hell, he sent me some pictures and they just look like raw meat. This has never happened before.
So just throwing out a warning.. cause I had no idea this happened and it was all over the news at some point.
Poor guy is driving on the road, can't sleep because it hurts so much... I told him just to leave them alone as much as possible and try to let it work itself out.

He should see if a drugstore has some aloe gel. I can’t imagine how uncomfortable he is! I hope it’s heals soon!

My DH now 51 had that happen when he was a teenager. He still remembers the pain vividly and reminds ds NOT to try Old Spice in case he has the same reaction. Hope your dh can get some relief.

My husband and son have been using it for years without any trouble. Maybe your husband has sensitive skin?

This is my husband's very favorite deodorant but, unfortunately he had the same type of reaction as yours had. It was AWFUL! The funny thing is, he used it for years without one single problem. Then a couple of years back he got the creeping crud from it and hasn't been able to use it since.

I never heard this about Old Spice deod., but as someone who at times is prone to hives, I have had rashes (were probably hives) at different times in my armpits.
If this is something that he suddenly couldn't wear, then it sounds to me like he may have developed a contact allergy to something (possibly in the scent) and Benadryl may really alleviate some of his discomfort.
Just a guess on my part, though.

Uh oh. So sorry to hear this. I, aww, ummm, use this every single day. It seems to be the strongest and works wonderfully for me. I even have my favorite scents.

Deodorant alone or the deodorant/anti-perspiration? DH can't use the anti-perspiration one due to a reaction but has no problem with the deodorant alone.

Wash, wash , wash. With gentle soap.
Dry completely , some people use a hair dryer , and dust lightly with corn starch. Use fragrance free laundry soap and no fabric softener onplain 100% cotton shirts.
Monkey butt powder can help after a couple of days.

Unfortunately, I am not sure exactly which one, he drives a truck and not home.. when I talk to him later.. I will have him take a picture of it.
He's used all kinds of deodorants and never a problem. Not really sensitive skin, the only thing that has ever bothered him was Tide detergent, which we never use anyways and that is when he was a teenager. I just don't use Tide so can't really compare that.
I'll give him some of your suggestions.....
If you Google it Old Spice rash... you can see tons of pictures... his compared to the pictures is in the middle.. not the worst but not mild either..

I’d have him try some Benadryl cream. Benadryl cream OR Benadryl pills/liquid. One or the other but not both.

OK... my allergic reaction hives did NOT look like that just to be clear here. Still.... Washing the areas thoroughly as quickly as possible and not using the product again is really important. Benadryl may help kill the discomfort anyway, but if he takes it orally, he shouldn't be driving.

I'd have him try a burn spray with lidocaine. Can be found at the drug store. Poor baby.

Is he sleeping in his truck? Does he have a fridge in his cab? When he gets to a chemist perhaps buy a couple of ice packs which he could put in his armpits, with or without a t-shirt, while he sleeps. Just something to help his skin cool down.
My Mum swears by Aloe Vera.

He should also sleep with his pits exposed to air so they don't get infected.

That's awful, and sounds incredibly painful! Have they changed the "recipe" lately? If he's used it before with no problems, I wonder if he got a bad batch?
I have fond memories of Old Spice - it was the go-to deodorant for every teenage boy I knew back in the 80's!

I had issues with deodorant/antiperspirants in college. It was awful! And I'd get it cleared up by wearing only cornstarch every day, then start a new brand, only to have the same thing happen. I put a 100% cotton T on each day so that there was material between my arm & body so they weren't touching. I used a steroid at one point and found a brand that worked. Liquids burned on the rash, until it was dried up and clearing.

My son has the same reaction to the Axe gel deodorants that are of the gel variety. His armpits looked like raw meat and he was in so much pain. We even got a new one and sacrificed his armpits one more time to see if he had a bad batch or if it were a change in the gel formula that set it off. It is the gel formula, at least for Axe. My daughter bought Certain Dry prescription strength and it is a roll on. Bad news - she had the same reaction and asked me to try it. I never have skin reactions but almost as soon as it hit my armpit I wanted to scream from the burn as it blistered. The burn feeling reamined for many days. I looked at reviews which many reported the same thing. I reported this to Target and never heard a word back.
I hope your husband finds some relief sooner than later. AND thank you for the warning. My other son uses Old Spice but experienced no issues thus far. Will be interested to hear if the product used was a gel.

The funny thing is, he used it for years without one single problem. Yes...I've had that happen in the past too. Used the same deodorant for years then suddenly developed a sensitivity to it and had big red itchy/weepy areas under my arms. Exact same product, no new formula. I think sometimes our bodies just react in strange ways, especially when fragrances are involved. I doubt it is Old Spice specific, you'd (The OP, not the person I quoted) probably find similar stories no matter which strongly scented deodorant you googled.

This has happened to my daughters before. The best relief was using A&D diaper rash ointment and 100% cotton tee shirts.
