I was so happy to see this, alive is all that matters, it seemed so unlikely.

It was breaking news for me last night. I'm just south of the Twin Cities and they broke it during prime time shows last night just after 8pm. Praise the Lord she's alive. I didn't think there was a chance. Yea, very odd. I mean, I'm up in northern MN, and we probably get the same tv channels out of the cities you do? What channel? Sounds like more info coming out this AM, and sounds like she's been there the whole time.

I was watching channel 4 WCCO and 11 KARE last night. My friend had a cabin in Gordon, WI until he sold it in November. I am familiar with this area. It's one of those towns where if you blink when you drive through, you miss the whole town. Creeps live everywhere.

I hope Elizabeth Smart reaches out on how she healed from her kidnapping.

A 21 yr. old Jake Patterson is in custody for the murder of the parents and for holding Jayme hostage. He's in the Barron county jail. He's not currently listed on the jail inmate site. He lives in Gordon, WI.

He had no previous criminal record. What a fricking maniac.

This update made me cry. Poor little thing. It sounds as though she has a lot of loving family ready to be there for her. I cannot imagine this is going to be anything other than a horrific road for her.

I hope I'm wrong. This has the feel of an on-line romance gone horribly wrong.

Ummm... I think it's the case of an antisocial ass pipe that was fixated on a young girl. No signs that the 12 year old instigated contact with this asshole.

I hope I'm wrong. This has the feel of an on-line romance gone horribly wrong. I just read the BBC article and they report the Sheriff saying there was no social media contact between them. www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-46843265I really hope she gets the support to work her way through this experience. I'm also glad she was brave enough to make a break for it because it doesn't read as if the police had any leads to finding her.

I hope I'm wrong. This has the feel of an on-line romance gone horribly wrong. They've already looked at his social media and have thoroughly investigated hers. There was no connection.
He had no criminal history locally or in WI.
He's not listed in the Barron Co Jail on the website for safety reasons. My guess is that they spent much of last night questioning Jayme and are going to question him today after having as much info from her that they can use against him in questioning.
She's a smart girl for her escape, especially when he was making attempts to hide himself and her from the public. And I refuse to victimize her just because other situations have turned out like that previously. I'll wait to pass judgement on the victim of the crime until all the information is out.

My BFF is very local to all of this. All the community are still thinking something is off yet. They had earlier sightings that very same day, in the AM, then she was found in the PM? total coincidence? but 100s of miles apart. Why also did the guy stay fairly local to the killings? Usually they go far away. It's a miracle really she escaped.

This is so amazing, I couldn't stop tearing up as I listened to the reporting on it on my way to work this morning. Hope her and her family can have the privacy they need for her grieving and their healing process!

Why also did the guy stay fairly local to the killings? Because he had access to an empty house there that his parents owned and had moved out of to hide her in.

So thankful! The press conference was very good. They are supposed to have another one at 4 p.m. I am assuming that is their local time not Eastern.

I had chills reading the story from the woman she walked up to and asked for help.

Usually they go far away. It's a miracle really she escaped. I'm sure it will come out, why he chose Jayme. However, there's nothing in any of the investigation that they did (and they did throughout electronic searches, including bringing dogs in to sniff out any hidden things) that links them together. There has been thoughts on it being drug related or that it was a mistaken/wrong house that the person held up.
As of the earlier sightings, they were doing investigation in a town, on a farm, about 100 miles away. The blogs and true crime sites tried to link this to her, but it was jumping the gun and not in any way linked to her. They actually had her in custody by 5pm in Douglas County, while they were still working on the farm and found bones in a firepit there. Obviously, none of her or her parents bones would be involved in that.
I believe that the man stayed to what he knew. He knew that he had uninterrupted access to the home that he was familiar with. He knew that the home was in an area that was remote and far from bigger towns/cities. He would have had any preparations he made to the home to keep her, versus taking her somewhere new. If he had been on the run with her, I believe that he would have been caught much sooner with all the media, police and citizens who knew about her abduction.

I haven't been in that part of WI, but it sounds like there are no close neighbors.

It’s easier to evade law enforcement if they know the area.

Or Elizabeth Smart who was kept close to her own home for a good portion of the beginning of her kidnapping, or Jayce Dugard who for 18 years was only kept about 150 miles from her home. Who knows what this guy was thinking, more likely than anything he had access to hide her where he did and that is why he chose that location.

It was another crime sight that people jumped to conclusions about. weird coincidence that hours later she was really found, but not related.

Reading now that the East Troy case is a suspected double homicide and arson, with the suspect a business owner from Franklin. A burn pit with human remains was apparently found on the property.

I very relieved she was found alive. She was very brave to have run away when she did-that took a lot of guts. My heart breaks for what she has gone through and I hope with the love of her family and hopefully with therapy she can go on to heal as best as she can, and lead a healthy, happy life. Thank goodness that woman was there for Jayme Cross to run too and knew exactly what course of action to take to keep them both safe.
I also hope the perpetrator of this crime, Jake Patterson, gets the book thrown at him in court and never sees the light of day again.
