We are purchasing a lake house that is mostly updated, but the sellers really have a thing for orange and we do not! The main living area is south facing and close to the water so very sunny and bright. I was originally thinking a pale sea salty color, but now think that could look washed out? The kitchen/living area is all open front to back, and there is a good sized entry way next to it that is open to the area, that will need some sort of coordinating color. The dark gray painted paneling is staying, we both like it. The master bedroom is also on the waterfront side of the house, and is currently a darker rusty orange, we are thinking some sort of soothing color in the blue/green family for that. We usually use Benjamin Moore paints. Any suggestions welcome! Main living area: Open to kitchen in back of house: Better view of the dark gray paneled wall we are keeping: Entryway, open to the living area: The (very orange) master bedroom: Thanks Peas!

Are you wanting sort of light and airy or darker and moody? I just painted my laundry room cabinets Jack Pine, and it's gorgeous, and would be great in a room with a lot of windows. Most colors will skew a bit more blue in your house, because the light coming in the windows will be bouncing off the blue water. If you lean more toward the green side of the scale, you'll end up with a perfect blue-green.

We’re going for lighter and airy, but I’m thinking a more saturated color in the main living area (not darker, just a bit more bold) might be better because it is so bright. We have BM Kensington Green (which is really blue) in our current home. We really like it and may use it on the front door, looking for something similar that could work in living area. Bedroom we want a bit softer, lighter. Gray wisp is on my list, so something along those lines. I think we’d need to prime before testing anything out since the orange will throw samples off pretty badly!

I went to the Benjamin Moore store yesterday and the man there recommended painting samples on poster board instead of on the actual walls. Then you can move it around and he said something about the wall swatch being 3D? I don’t know what that means exactly but I like the idea of painting on poster board as long as the color looks the same as it will on the wall.

What a beautiful little place!! I would go bolder. I know the big trend is grey grey grey. But I would steer away from that with the grey wall, and all the light. How about an aqua blue? or tiffany blue? you seem to like blues? greens? I would go more that way. then you can accent with greys, Have you looked on pinterest? There are alots of beachy type decors. Maybe search that? You'll have to show us when you are done!

Google Sherwin Williams Sea Salt. I think Oyster Bay is the shade on the strip that's darker. Edit: I wonder if Kensington Green would go well with SW Silver Strand.

I had Sea Salt on my bedroom at my last house, and it is a beautiful color, but I think it will pull baby blue in yours with all the water. Maybe Healing Aloe?

My mom mixes paint for a paint/hardware store. She said the popular colors right now are Sea salt, Poppy and coral.

Love, love, love this. I could live there every day of my life 😊 We are planning to eventually retire there, so we can be there every day! 😊 It has 2 bedrooms and a loft, so lots of room for family and friends to visit. Sea Salt is one of the colors I’m looking at. Will have to play around with colors and all the light on the house, once we own it I can decide then. Thanks for all the suggestions, Peas! Going to head to the hardware store for some paint chips to start, then will get samples after I narrow it down. It will be a while but I will post when it’s done! Lisa B.

IMHO, Sea Salt is too pale if you like Kensington Green (which I think is gorgeous).
Looking forward to seeing the finished product! What a sweet house and stunning location.

My mom mixes paint for a paint/hardware store. She said the popular colors right now are Sea salt, Poppy and coral. I think the people who mix the paints are better at picking out paint colors than decorators. They work w/ those colors everyday and they hear customers' comments who have tried the different colors. There have been several times I have had a decorator recommend a color and then I go to the paint store and end up w/ something close to what the decorator recommended, but not the exact color. The people at the paint store have never given me bad advice. Cupcake I love your lake house! .

WOW, I love your lake home! BM White Dove and then pops of colors with the accessories and artwork? Enjoy, it looks amazing! Our kitchen cabinets and trim at our primary home are all BM White Dove. And I know the SW Sea Salt color is likely the one the previous poster was referencing! I do have a chip of that one too. We should be closing on the property within the month so I will be able to test out paint colors then. The lighting there is so much different! Lisa

There's a blog called HomeBunch and they feature beautiful homes and list all the sources for everything you see in the pictures including paint colors. It's good paint inspiration.
The lighting does make such a difference. Good luck!
