Several posters suggested they would be interested in QuicKutz alphabets. I, too, need to substantially downsize (retiring to a MUCH smaller space that will be shared with my sister. There is little spare room and she is a neat-nick - and I have a boatload of scrap scrap!) Before I go into to my room and dig out the dies and post them on FSOT - what do you think the price should be for "barely used" dies (and I say used because they aren't in a sealed package - not because they have actually seen paper or experienced a press!)
Frankly, I haven't had much success in selling scrap stuff - either here or elsewhere -- I don't know if I hold the product too "dear" or what!

Frankly, I haven't had much success in selling scrap stuff - either here or elsewhere -- I don't know if I hold the product too "dear" or what! I have tons of Quickutz Alphas, and yes, I rarely ever get anything out of scrap stuff I sell. Most of the time I end up taking it to Goodwill or something because no one ever wants really great stuff. I don't understand then wonder how other people make great sales. I price things 1/2 of retail or lower. I have decided to hold onto my Quickutz because there is no way I can get out of them what I feel they are worth. They are REALLY great alphas!

Not to disappoint, but I have seen the QK alphas go for $15-$20. Not much when they cost in the hundreds!!! Same with the Sizzlits alphas. That is why I gave them to a middle school scrapbook teacher/club where they would/could be used!

I recently got an exclusive die for $5. One that used to sell for $50-80. LOL Oh and the bald eagle that was super hard to find for $7.
You probably won't get more than $15 for an alphabet set.
If you need to downsize, donate them to a local childrens hospital, therapy center for special needs kids or a school close to you.

It’s been a few years since I’ve bought any alpha dies, but I’d say $20 is pretty normal. I’ve paid $30, but that for the larger letters. Check sold listings on eBay and you will see what it’s sold for.
Many of the sets sold for $200+, but before QK sold out to Lifestyle Crafts, sets were about $100. The going rate for used items is generally 25-30% of the original price, which I would put at $100.
Now, if it’s Norton, you could get more. It wasn’t a QK set, but the same wafer thin style of dies. It looks like the Disney font and that goes for more. It’s pretty rare.

I suggest you check prices of what you have on EBay. I have seen some sell for $20 and some for much, much more. Some seem to be more rare or at least more wanted.

I just paid $25 on eBay for the Zelda regular-size numbers (new, sealed in package) ... I think they originally retailed for $59.99 or maybe $89.99? I don’t remember anymore. I’d been watching for them for a long time. Agreed, you aren’t going to get nearly what you paid for them. But you’ll get something, and that can add up if you have a lot of them. They’re also super easy to ship in a priority envelope, which is one of my primary considerations when deciding whether to put stuff on eBay or not.

I think I'm annoyed at this thread. I was planning on doing a purge of my stuff this year. And now I find myself checking out EBay to see if I can get any of the alphabets I liked back then and didn't get!

For tools, dies and stuff like that, I wouldn’t just donate them right off. Those dies can be used in most any diecutting system so the market is much wider open now for them than they were when they were released. I’m always looking for fun dies.
I agree, check eBay or craigslist and see what the sets you have are currently selling for. Thin dies like that, especially the alphabets are hot, hot sellers at the used scrap stuff sales I have participated in, and they’re easy to ship in a flat rate envelope or box. You won’t recoup all of your investment by a long shot but you will get something for them and if you have a lot of sets you want to unload, it can add up to a nice chunk of change.
If you don’t have a local place that does occasional used craft supply sales, post them here on FSOT. It doesn’t cost anything to list them here and I’m sure they’ll go.

I remember really wanting a few of their alphas but I wasn’t willing to pay several hundred dollars for the privalage. This was back in the blue squeeze tool days. Once competitors started making affordable alpha sets the prices came way down and I still have my four old sets. Since I don’t have an electronic die cutting machine I’d totally be interested in getting a couple more. Maybe I ought to check eBay. Hmmm.

They have TONS of alphas and dies, I just discovered.

I have paid about $25 plus shipping for a full set of the 2" alpha dies. That included upper and lower case.

As for prices, i'd check Ebay or do a general google. I just spent $45 on there for Stardust alphabet, but it was marked in excellent condition, and its a full set alpha, so I was quite happy to pay that for it. Some of the smaller ones or caps or lower case only, seemed to go for less. miominmio - the lady I bought mine from on Ebay was selling a Maddie Anne set for $40.

When I looked into selling mine, I was disheartened by how much they were going for. I ending up donating the whole lot, about 20 alphabets and the Revolution tool, to a lady I know who is in charge of the children's programs at a local church. She had a lot of ideas for how to use them with the kids, and I felt good about them going to her.

I agree with checking on Ebay for the current prices on what alphabets you have for sale-but remember to click the completed sales box and not look at what prices people are asking for their Quickutz alphabets. They can ask whatever prices they want-doesn't mean they are going to get that price. There is a place on the left hand side of the screen that has the option to click on it so you can only see "completed sales". That will show you what that particular alphabet actually sold for. I would take an average of that price, up it a little, make that my price and offer free shipping. People like free shipping and it can make your product sell. That is how I sell items on Ebay.
Like other Peas have said, you won't get what you paid for them but you will get something-and if you have a lot it will add up. You can use this with any other scrap items you have to sell too. Little by little you will build up a nice little profit where before you had stuff cluttering up a room that you weren't using. It does take time (photographing the items and making up the sales pages), but after awhile you get into the gist of it.
Ebay will get you the most exposure, but you can sell other places too.

I donated mine to my moms friend who donated it to a school I believe or a group. Not sure which. I did keep my most favorite quickitz alphas and a few of the basic sizzix. Don’t know why as I don’t have the machine anymore and can cut stuff through cricut. More sentimental reasons I guess!
