I have an ongoing issue with fonts I've bought from the Silhouette store. It seems that EVERY time I open the software and want to use a font, many of them don't show the image in my library and when I try to use them, they're not there! I have to re-download them, re-install them, and re-start the program almost every time I want to use them. And it's the same fonts that do this every time. I'm using the Business Edition and the most recent version of the software. Does anyone else have this problem, and if so, were you able to fix it permanently?

Yes. Like you, I have the business edition.
I just assumed they stopped udating the font folder in the software or something. However, I also install the Silhouette fonts onto my computer. If you open the font window (not the folder, but the task window on the right sidebar), then you can see the font and how it looks. I hope that made sense.
I don't usually view the font folder in the software, so it doesn't bother me that much. If it bothers yu, then I recommend you use the chat option to find out why the software has that issue. It may be a bug they need to fix in the business edition.

Thank scrapnnana. I understand what you mean about the task window on the right sidebar, but I they don’t even show up there. They just keep un-installing for no apparent reason! I just recently upgraded to Business Edition from Designer Edition and I had exactly the same problem before. Guess you’re right... I’ll have to have a chat with Silhouette! Grrrr

Are you actually opening the individual font and installing it on the computer? Before they automatically installed into the software, but not on the computer itself. They no longer install automatically into the software. I have to download them, open them, and install to the computer, but I only have to do it once. There have been a few that I can't see what they look like, even then. If I am trying to figure out what font to use, I type my phrase or word in any font, then I can scroll down the list, and it changes. I can see what it looks like in each font. I personally find that the easiest eay to figure out which font that I want to use, anyway, because I can see exactly how my chosen word or phrase will look.

scrapnnana, I had no idea the fonts don't install automatically anymore... weird... but I've actually re-downloaded and re-installed the fonts numerous times. Now I'm seeing the thumbnails in my library, but they don't show up in the drop down box when I'm in the design space. I emailed Silhouette and heard back this morning. They said I should try resetting the library, but I'll lose my user-created content unless I back everything up... which I haven't done in a long time. I'm at work today, so I'll try to do it later tonight. Hopefully it fixes my font issue and doesn't totally mess up my library!

streetscrapper - Do you know if you purchased a regular 'crafter'font or a 'premium' font? Silhouette store has 2 kinds of fonts it sells. It can get super confusing if you don't know the difference. The regular Crafter font will automatically download to your Studio Library and be ready to use as soon as it downloads. Once you close your software, it will also install itself on your computer and be usable in any other software that accesses fonts. PREMIUM fonts have to be manually downloaded from Silhouette and manually installed on your computer. They will be available to use in Studio after you restart the program. The PREMIUM font icon will automatically download to your library, but you can't click on that to use it. If you could post the specific name of the font or a few of the fonts that are giving you issues - I might be able to help a little more.

Hmmmmm. Kinda hijacking the thread here, but I have 3 fonts that will not open too. I get an error that the file type is not supported. Maybe these are premium fonts? The three causing me problems are:
Antelope Island Dream State You Are Magic
Thanks for any help/advice from the pros.

You tube to the rescue! Yep, those 3 are premium fonts. SO, I downloaded them and installed them like a "regular" font. Good to go. Thanks for the lesson.

Silhouette has no shortage of confusing things with their store! LOL The "crafter" fonts vs. "premium" fonts are one thing. They now sell SVG files also - which are mainly for those who use other machines like Cricut or Brother. But I see a lot of Silhouette newbies that buy them also because they think they need them or they are better... they are the same. A vector file. No need to purchase if you use Silhouette machines. I do really enjoy the Software. Did you know, with the nicer OTF (open type fonts) that have extra characters (glyphs) that Silhouette Studio now has a glyphs panel that makes accessing them super easy! You do have to be updated to at least V4.1 and you do need to have upgraded to at least Designer Edtion. But boy does it work slick! Using the Glyphs Panel in Silhouette Studio

I didn't have a chance to back up my library last night so I didn't reset the library, but I haven't purchased any premium fonts from the Silhouette store. It's about 15 of the crafter's fonts that I constantly have trouble with - one of which is Jersey. And I agree with you iowgirl about the glyphs! I had Designer Edition and just recently upgraded to Business. I love how easy using glyphs has become! For that reason alone I think upgrading to Designer Edition is essential!

streetscrapper I don't have the Jersey font... that is a Lori Whitlock font though. So are you looking for the font LW Jersey in the font list? All her fonts will begin with LW - which can sometimes make them harder to find. ** Some other font designers start their font name with their initials also, but not all of them. Not at all confusing.. not at all... For example ScrapNFonts are all listed as starting with PN. Ok. That makes NO sense. But the font Nashville by ScrapNFonts is in the fonts list as PN Nashville. As far as some fonts image (thumbnail) not showing in the Library - that has always been an issue with Silhouette Studio. Some of the thumbnails show and some do not, for me. It has always been that way - it's like they just all don't quite load. But that in no way affects how the font works for me.... I don't access the fonts from the Library - I use them from the Fonts list in the Text Style panel (the big A on the right side toolbar) .. is that how you are using them? Open that and look for LW Jersey and see if it is there... A Library Reset fixes a world of issues though - but it will wipe out your Library.

FYI - the font Collegiate FLF is the same font and you can get it for free at DaFont. It has a lot of different versions of it there too. Collegiate FLF fontI do like to buy some fonts from Silhouette, but search for them outside the store first. A lot of them are available for free... They have I Love Glitter in the Silhouette Store - but you can get that for free from the Designers website (Misty's fonts)... If you want it for commercial work, it is still cheaper to get it from the designer and pay her commercial fee. The one at the Silhouette Store is a lot more.

This is a screen shot of my Library - not all the thumbnails load - this is normal for Studio.

iowgirl, interesting screenshot! That’s what mine is doing. But when I couldn’t find the font in the drop down list, I wasn’t sure what was going on. Perhaps it’s what you said about the LW before the title. I’ll check it when I get home.

Well it seems that my fonts and the thumbnails are sticking now... since I re-downloaded them and re-installed them, things are working. And yes, the Jersey font I couldn't find before is there under "LW Jersey". But now I'm having a different issue. All my files are saved to the cloud. I'm not sure why I did that, but that's where everything is saved. When I noticed the font issue before I also noticed that a LOT of my own files and files which I have downloaded from sites other than the Silhouette store are appearing twice, and sometimes more, in the library. I actually went through them all - and I have over 9,000, and deleted EVERY SINGLE DUPLICATE. And now as I have worked out the font issue, guess what... all the duplicate files are back. I am so frustrated!! I just deleted them all again but what the heck is going on???

Do you know what version of the software you are using? This was a problem for a while, but I thought they fixed it. I am now running the BETA software (v4.2) and it does have an option to remove duplicate files. I am not sure if that is an option with older software. But it should be there when they release V4.2 in general release. You can use the BETA software, but I only recommend this if you are comfortable using BETA and willing to participate. This means sending reports to Silhouette when you find something that isn't working right, and to get frequent updates. There was a big update yesterday, but there hadn't been anything for a couple weeks before that.

I actually considered downloading the BETA last night because I did see that there was an option to remove duplicates, but I'm not comfortable with it, especially after reading that they have pulled it a couple of times. Sounds too "glitchy" for me. I seriously think I HATE the cloud option, but when I tried to move things back to my own library, it wouldn't let me move anything off of the cloud. And then suddenly my font issue was back... GRRRRR. Very frustrating!

especially after reading that they have pulled it a couple of times. Sounds too "glitchy" for me. They took it down once, and it was directly related to how the Cloud library and user files were being handled. I honestly don't have any issues. My Library uploaded fine to the Cloud and it works great for me, but I have plenty of storage space (so far) in the Cloud (10 GB). They need to sort some stuff out though. You do not have to be online. Your files are still there, even if they are in the "Cloud" without being online. I have the full upgrade to Business Edition, and you can now save designs as transparent PNG - which is super nice.

Hmmm interesting... with all the issues I’m having with the non-BETA version, maybe I’ll give the BETA one a try...

I downloaded the BETA version and, once again, have spent hours deleting well over 1,000 duplicate files! When you have close to 10,000 files in the software, it's slow enough... I don't need over 1,000+ extra files that don't need to be there!! I shut down and restarted and it looks like I have 8,182 files, but I'm working offline and to tell you the truth, I'm scared to log-in again. If them come back I'm reverting back to the version before the cloud existed!
Does anyone know if there is a way to completely get rid of the free files Silhouette gives you. They're not at all my style but for some reason the damn program wants to you have them even if you don't want them! If I'm missing something here, please chime in and let me know how I can get rid of them FOREVER. I put them in the recycle bin, but as soon as I empty them, they come back!
