DH was diagnosed with diverticulitis three years ago. Since then he has had 8 flair up with three of those being since October. He is having elective robot assisted colorectal surgery tomorrow and the doctor will remove approximately 10-16 inches of his colon. He is excited to get the surgery and never have to deal with the diver pain again but I am a nervous wreck.
I could use all of your prayers and positive thoughts tomorrow. If all goes well then he will only miss two weeks of work but if things go wrong he could be out of work for months.
Thank you for reading and for your prayers and positive thoughts.
Update #2: He was eating last night three hours after getting out of surgery. He was able to hold down water and he also pooped. Yay! This morning he has eaten breakfast and is up and walking around. Even the doctors are amazed at his healing. He is being discharged in a couple of hours. He will get much more rest at home than at the hospital. If anybody needs an amazing colorectal surgeon in Dallas...let me know!

I’ll keep you both in my thoughts and prayers! My husband had his first bout of diverticulitis in October and had a 5 day stay in the hospital for a perforated colon and abscess. It’s very scary!!

May sound strange, but I’m excited for your DH to be out of pain. Diverticulitis is no joke.
Many positive thoughts that it’s a successful surgery and gentle recovery.

I’ll keep you both in my thoughts and prayers! My husband had his first bout of diverticulitis in October and had a 5 day stay in the hospital for a perforated colon and abscess. It’s very scary!! My mum had this but it had progressed to peritonitis. That was a thing I had never heard of before. OP my mum had the colon surgery and it was a huge success. The only things she can’t eat are spicy sausage, nuts, and popcorn. She had no complications and no ostomy and has been asymptomatic since surgery. I hope for the same smooth experience for your husband.

Having been on both sides of an operation I feel that it is MUCH harder to be the person waiting than the person being operated on. I hope the time goes by quickly for you and that your DH has good results and fast healing!

My sister went there this. 3-5 bad attacks before her Surgery.
Something went wrong during her surgery, possible nicked bowel she was in the hospital for 22 days.
She wore a bag for 5-6 months. Hated it, even though she was a nurse, the bag would slide off etc.
Her reversal surgery went very smoothly and she is now fine.

Sending up a prayer for your DH and wishing him a good outcome. My brother had that surgery a little over a year ago and since then has been doing very well, so I hope that is what your DH’s result is too.

I hope all goes well and the surgery does what it’s supposed to do! I had sigmoid colectomy 20 years ago. Just remember post-surgical flatulence is his friend . Sending good thoughts!
