flute4peace it's okay! You don't have to look for me. Thanks for sharing those. There's a good chance I've already read them. But I will read again to refresh my memory. I'm still having a hard time believing that there is something that could be known about trump that HE would find so threatening. Something that would embarrass him personally is my guess. and has to do with money and his "wealth". Something that would expose the facade he has built up around him. He is all about himself and how people see him and money. Him and money- all that matters.

linkBuzzfeed... “The Trump Administration Signals That It’s Not Done Trying To Dismantle Obamacare”“A discussion document floated this week reveals the Trump White House is considering a slew of reforms to the individual markets that could potentially throw them into chaos.”“WASHINGTON — The Trump administration revealed this week that it could try to take one more shot at weakening the Affordable Care Act’s individual markets before the end of Trump’s first term. A request for comment on a proposed rule change posted late Thursday contemplates a series of changes that would save the government $1 billion per year or more, but result in higher premiums and more people being uninsured. “This proposed regulation signals that the administration is not done working to undercut the ACA,” said Larry Levitt, senior vice president for health reform at the Kaiser Family Foundation. The document is only an early-stage call for feedback, and any concrete actions would come months later. If the administration does pull the trigger it would be making highly controversial changes heading into an election year. Democrats are already accusing Trump of “sabotaging” the markets with “a health care tax on patients and families” just for floating the ideas. Among the proposals are three major policies that are either being proposed or could be inferred from the document. One proposal would change how ACA subsidies are calculated, leading to lower subsidies and higher premiums on the individual market. Other ideas broached but not explicitly proposed are ending automatic renewal of Obamacare plans and killing the workaround that has largely held the individual markets together.” Keep in mind the Republicans will not replace the ACA, or any part of it.

Why has the news been trickling out these bombshells steadily for the last couple weeks? Is it possible they are trying to "force" an investigation and impeachment proceedings BEFORE Mueller's report comes out? Brilliant minds have a plan here, but what? And why?

It doesn't matter when any Trump supporter shows up. It will always be a troll to you. That's why most here don't bother with your "scary Trump political" threads. Sorry to inform you but he will win the next election also. All the people who constantly bash Trump will be devastated again, Trump supporters will be happy to watch y'all cry again. That isn’t true at all. I have plenty of people I don’t agree with on here and on Facebook politically, that I can engage happily with on other things. I don’t alway agree with people I mostly agree politically on, either. I characterize people who comment in the vein you have, as trolls. Whether you mean it or not (although I’m assuming you do) you post it simply to provoke a reaction, nothing else. That is the very definition of trolling. 🤷🏻♀️ That is me. I have lots of Trump supporters in my life, and most of them, I can actually converse with, even about politics. Like my gay brother and his partner who have been together for 30 years. They are ultra conservative Trump supporters. Shocking, I know. I spent a weekend with them recently, and while we did have some pretty heated discussions about politics, I still love them both dearly, and we agree to disagree. We discussed actual issues...I think that is the difference. They showed me articles, I showed them articles. We each listened to the other side. Yes, there was some eye-rolling, and a bit of raised voices. But then, we moved on, made another drink and played a game. My dad on the other hand...he rants and raves about "them people" (Mexicans, Muslims, etc etc with no desire to actually have a discussion, and I do everything in my power to not go down the politics road when I am with him because it ends with me close to having a stroke. Our last discussion, he spent a good deal of time making fun of lesbians, and my daughter is gay. Yeah....
Anyway...back to the discussion here...people like carly and ricky seem to hop on a thread, throw out some zinger just to rile everyone up without really discussing anything. For example, carly posting Trump's letter to Nancy Pelosi basically saying "woohoo!! Yay Trump!" No discussion of the issue of announcing to the world that she was going to a war zone and the security issues with doing that. She just continues to come back and talk about crying liberals. (I am not one by the way)
I am probably not expressing myself well. It's been a difficult week, and my mind is rather scattered.

Why not just make it now?

Is it possible they are trying to "force" an investigation and impeachment proceedings BEFORE Mueller's report comes out? Brilliant minds have a plan here, but what? And why? I have wondered that as well. But then, I think about how many relentless, investigative journalists have been digging around and working this story for probably as long as Trump has been president, and they are slowly hitting the jackpot. And then I remember that journalists are who took Nixon down. Mueller's investigation is pretty tightly closed, as someone else already said, but that doesn't stop journalists.
And am I the only one who didn't know until now that Buzzfeed is actually a legitimate news source? I had NO idea!

They believed there was a story to find, they started digging and kept digging until they found it. Every single serious journalist on the political beat is looking for the string that needs to be pulled. They are dreaming of Pulitzers and aren't afraid to put in the work to get it. Careers are made on stories like this. I teach newspaper/journalism and we talk about W&B and how they never realized how big their story was, until it ended. Nobody had ever brought down a US president. I show them the picture of W&B watching Nixon's resignation and tell them that they should be watching the news and reading the papers on a regular basis because right now they are living through history. Just today I told them that someday their kids would be asking them "where were you when..." and they should be able to answer that question.

Senator Graham traveled to Turkey today (via commercial airlines) to meet with Erdogan after he criticized rump's pull out plan. (Probably best to make the arrangements to hand Syria over to Russia in person).
Now, while he did fly commercial, it was a first class ticket, involved security personnel, staff members and logistic issues at a cost. All while the government is shut down, and fun fact, Trump did not reveal his itinerary, and risk security issues.
Also, during the shutdown and Secretary of State Pompeo's 8 day trip to the Middle East, his wife accompanied him, which required additional staffing including her personal staff (why?), a point person, and security assigned directly to her for the trip. This is while State Department staff are not being paid. And why exactly is she needed to travel with him?

I teach French most of the time. But I started being newspaper sponsor several years ago and once the journalism teacher retired, that kind of got rolled into newspaper. It's a very fine line to walk - there is SO MUCH right now that is relevant to journalism, but I don't want to get too political. At some point, with the trajectory this is going, there won't be any avoiding it. If Trump resigns/is indicted/impeached, it will be news - the biggest news story of their lives. If I didn't follow it and analyze it, I wouldn't be doing my job.
I guess I'm doing a decent job since a couple of the kids asked what party I belonged to. I'm independent, but they didn't really like that answer...they wanted to know which way I lean. I wouldn't tell them and I had them arguing over it. One made very impassioned rationales for why I had to be a Republican, the other arguing that I was obviously more of a Democrat.

The State Department on Thursday ordered employees and U.S. diplomats abroad to return to work, saying it would make additional funds available to pay most employee salaries for two weeks.
"As a national security agency, it is imperative that the Department of State carries out its mission. We are best positioned to do so with fully staffed embassies, consulates, and domestic offices," Deputy Under Secretary for Management Bill Todd said in a statement. The State Department has been among a number of federal agencies affected by the shutdown that started Dec. 22. Roughly 23 percent of the State Department’s direct hire employees overseas and 40 percent of those operating domestically have been furloughed, meaning they are not being paid and aren't ordered to come to work. Todd said that employees would be paid for work performed during the two-week pay period starting Sunday, Jan. 20, including domestic workers and those at U.S. diplomatic posts overseas. He said employees would be paid for their work on time on Feb. 14, and that the department would thereafter “review balances and available legal authorities to try to cover future pay periods.” thehill.com/homenews/administration/425867-state-dept-asks-employees-to-return-to-work-amid-shutdown

This from trump...
”I will be making a major announcement concerning the Humanitarian Crisis on our Southern Border, and the Shutdown, tomorrow afternoon at 3 P.M., live from the @whitehouse.”
Prompted this question from Greg Sargent...
“Only a humanitarian crisis, and not a security crisis?
No need for a wall, after all?”
Is he going to claim because of a “humanitarian crisis” that he created, he is going to declare a national emergency and stiff the Americans that suffered from wildfires and hurricanes by swiping the funds earmarked to help these folks, to build the stupid wall.

From Twitter Why doesn’t he just issue a statement that the wall has now been built and that it has retroactively prevented immigration for the past two years? His followers will believe it.

2. DJT has had some of the lowest schemes you could imagine to try to increase his bottom line. Maybe his fat mouth overshared with Putin, and Putin learned the dirty details of Trump/Epstein and the underage girls in the 1980's - now??? Maybe they learned about DJT's "modeling" company and the reason he wanted the beauty paegents?? Maybe they planned Melania's first trip to the U.S., where DJT instantly became enamored of her and helped her get a false "Einstein" Visa and then marry him to stay in the Country, all the while reporting back to Putin? Just a thought........................... If so, Putin has a lifetime of very embarrassing details to keep DJT on a leash forever!
ABOUT COHEN: It was a known rumor that Michael Cohen taped almost everything he could between himself and DJT for his own safety. Yes, he was slimy to begin with, but this was an entirely different level of crimes...... We shall see!
This. Whatever Trump is concerned about, I am 100% confident it has nothing to do with protecting his kids. He would throw any of them under the bus in a heartbeat to protect himself. He is a sociopath. Incapable of love. None of his kids - even Ivanka - mean anything to him as more than mere objects to reflect his own glory.

NBC News...
”JUST IN: In rare response, special's counsel office says, “BuzzFeed’s description of specific statements to the Special Counsel’s Office, and characterization of documents and testimony obtained by this office, regarding Michael Cohen’s Congressional testimony are not accurate.”
The key phrase is “not accurate”. What is not accurate? All or parts of the BuzzFeeds story?

They're saying on Chris Hayes that it's the characterization of the corroborating evidence that is not accurate. It could be something like "the article says they have e-mails and documents" when the reality is that they have phone calls and post-it notes.
One things is sure: we won't know anything until Mueller is ready to tell us. He's going to dot every i and cross every t to make an airtight case. Even then, we won't know everything since there will undoubtedly be things that are sensitive to national security.

Paul Waldman... ”According to this story, Trump instructed Michael Cohen to lie to Congress about his contacts with Russia: buzzfeednews.com/article/jasonl… If true that's absolute grounds for impeachment. But Trump will deny it, and how do you prove Cohen is telling the truth?” Because with all the lies trump tells how can you believe anything he says? True. But, Cohen is a known liar, too. But from reading the buzzfeed story, their sources do not depend on cohens testimony, either. Which seems good. The story is about things Cohen DID, not things Cohen SAID. So, the fact that he has a history of lying doesn't necessarily negate the details in the story.

Yes, the newscast is real. The Russians have been pretty stoked recently about their victories. Keep in mind - that the entire time Trump has been lying about ties with Russians, the entire time that Cohen was being directed to lie about it - the Russian side of the equation knew the truth. Putin could release the information any time he pleased. It was never about the pee tape, the pee tape is a minor distraction. It's about the fact that Putin controls Trump because he knows the truth. Trump is compromised and can be manipulated into doing anything Putin likes. As the old saying goes "the truth will set you free." Until the truth is released - the entire truth - Trump will continue to be under Putin's control. It's up to us to decide whether or not it's acceptable to have a foreign leader with that much power over our president*. Yeah, but am I the only one still wondering what exactly Putin has the trump would KNOW would be that harmful? This is a man who thinks he does no wrong and that if he does, it doesn't matter and if it does matter he won't be caught, and if he's caught, he won't be punished or face consequences. I just...what in the world of all the fucks does Putin know that scares trump THAT badly?! It’s all about money. Lots of money.

Buzzfeed blew it. I noticed that CNN today was being VERY careful to include the “if it’s true” and saying that no other media outlets have been able to substantiate it.
I’ve been feeling for quite a while that media is doing a disservice to Mueller by not letting the investigation go along in private. I would much rather wait until official results are released.

I asked if we had ever had a point in history where the Speaker was close to stepping into the presidency, and then talked about Agnew's resignation and the threat of impeachment for Nixon. They had no idea.
