So I picked up my son last night from the airport and this song came on the radio on our way home.. the line in the song
"Sky high in Colorado, your lips pressed against the bottle"
He is telling me that songs will change the name of the State depending where it is played. I totally agree for SOME songs but I said not in this song because it just wouldn't make sense.
He thinks it changes, I don't think so. Sky high in Kansas would sound silly..
(NOW if they were playing in a concert IN Kansas, just for fun they would probably use that state's name) BUT on the radio, no matter where it is played Sky high in Colorado is playing. At least I am 99% sure I am right.
Tell me I'm right so I can tell my 23 year old that this old fart isn't all that dumb.. HAHAHAHA.. and he thinks he is a music guru....(not saying he doesn't know a lot about music, he does and has a good range of different stuff he likes but sometimes his mamma can be right..) HAHAHA

Lyric is always Colorado here in PA— for two obvious reasons.

Lyric is always Colorado here in PA— for two obvious reasons. Because of the altitude!

In that song specifically it's always Colorado, but that isn't always the case. In some songs, they do record it for specific markets.

Songs do get market-specificities sometimes. I once heard Zac Browns Band’s song Toes in the Water playing in a store and noticed that it had been altered. Instead of “toes in the water, ass in the sand” they sang “toes in the water, butt in the sand”.
Sky high applies only to Colorado and it’s not just about the elevation. 😁

It's Colorado down here, every time it plays. I saw them in concert also, and it was Colorado then. Sorry, kid. Mama is right!

They may change it when they sing it in concert, depending on where they are. Often artists do that. Like something regional/city/song lyric is changed to the city where they are at that night, just during that concert.

Instead of “toes in the water, ass in the sand” they sang “ties in the water, butt in the sand”. Mile high applies only to Colorado and it’s not just about the elevation. 😁 Not just the elevation?? Oh what could you be referring to?? I just can't think of a single thing!!

Sky high in Colorado is the lyric and frankly, Sky high in Colorado is cliche'. As soon as I heard the lyric I thought it was sloppy song writing. Being sky high to me will always mean high on drugs.

It’s always Colorado when that song is played on the radio here too. Personally I don’t like how many country songs glorify being drunk or high. I never cared about it too much until I had a kid and realized how often it happens, same with swear words in pop songs.

I never cared about it too much until I had a kid and realized how often it happens, same with swear words in pop songs. It's in all songs.. country/pop whatever... What I was singing in the 80s was just as bad. It was pop music. Off the top of my head Prince. LOVED Prince.. but good grief all his songs (or a lot) was very sexual. So for me is isn't much different from whatever is playing now.. Sexual/drunk/high.

It's played on XM radio here in CT and I only hear "Colorado." Sky high in CT would be silly! And wouldn't sound very good!

When John Denver was singing that, recreational weed was not legal. Now, it is legal in a lot of places, but CO was a big leader in that movement.

Not sure why the word toes would be turned to ties but butt in the sand instead of ass is easy to see. For quite awhile, when cds werea popular thing, Wal-Mart only sold those that were altered if need be so they were non-explicit. @workingclassdogs you now can set your son straight. You can show him the replies

I’m in MI. When I’ve heard it on the regular radio it’s always Colorado. When I hear it on Sirius XM it’s Colorado. And of course when I play it off my phone it’s still Colorado. 😛
